  1. I knew it was someone else but couldn't think who off top of me head, was sat in traffic too so couldn't look. Dunno about you but I don't particularly like the version. Butch's copy definitely Mill Edwards...... Sound files of all versions in refo but will have to wait till it is up and running in the near future.
  2. I don't think the argument will every get resolved, its been going on in one form or other since the late 70's.
  3. Keep your opinions coming, just seemed strange first post against one venue in particular. The funky stuff played all over I'm afraid, I'm not keen on the real funky stuff but each to their own.
  4. Ion had/played this mid 80's first.
  5. Butch's copy is Mill Edwards, Exodus test press/acetate. The Ritchie Parker is an old Poke spin I think.
  6. unless items for sale are out of the ordinary and exceptionally rare then please list all sales in on post, thanks. Topics merged.
  7. I thought the 7 inch with PS was the Drizabone to have? Anyway I sold one for £200 once on ebay
  8. Great set Bob Will tho and download later Did you ever suss out that iTunes link? Be much easier if you could as it would be waiting for me automatically
  9. Win, from what I can see this is Tammy's first post on the Soul forums of the site, the others (only made 5 in total) seem to have been in freebasing. Call me a cynic if you like but to me it suggests Tammy has another agenda? Anyway I'm not gonna keep defending Lifeline, we've had a couple of quiet nights in the 3 and half years at Stables, the rest have been near, at or above capacity. The music policy is quite clear in what Lifeline is trying to promote. I can't think of another all-nighter doing the same as Lifeline? Sure there are others playing something different but they are by and large from the 60's only. We have been doing the same for almost 8 years, proud of what we have achieved as well and will continue to do the same as long as the support is there. Lifeline not in it for a profit, just to make enough to ensure there is another one but if the support not there then the promotion won't be there. Sure that is the same for any promoter. Everybody has there favourite venue, favourite DJ's, favourite music etc but if some are gonna criticise other venues they should get their facts right.
  10. we have had a couple of quieter nights this year at Lifeline, mainly due to the large amount of events on the bank holiday weekends but the floor has still been busy. Prior to these we've had by and large a full house every time with a full floor. Can you post an intro please and let other members know a bit about you, thanks. /forum/57-members-shouts-and-intros/
  11. I've noticed the younger element getting into records like this, Paul Barker at Beat Boutique for one has been giving it some spins.
  12. It's always had the odd spin (Stafford biggie for Keb) and a few years ago you could pick it up cheap here.....I was certainly giving it spins ten years ago. It seems to be getting a new lease of life and there is lots of interest in it of late, bound to have an effect on the price. I said not long ago probably about £70 now a days.
  13. It's a thank less task now promoting Nige, like you say you simply can't win. I often wonder if it is worth the hassle.
  14. What did the Sweet Nothings sell for on JM? I've seen quite a few lately, issues too which you rarely saw. Down to around £60 in price now.
  15. Like you I think it is a crying shame so many good records are totally ignored because of the over played culture and blinkered people. It seems to me that the social night out is far more important to some than the progression of the scene or hearing something different. It's a shame you spend most of your time at home seeking out B sides and album tracks as there are plenty of venues catering for the underplayed, semi/unknown.
  16. I can't see it working but nothing would surprise me. I for one wouldn't venture out Christmas Day. New Century is on Boxing Day as far as I know.
  17. All the best to Keith and hopefully a speedy recovery.

Where is the demand for this coming from? If someone was to ask me how much is it worth I'd have said about £20.
  19. I wouldn't have Butch more or less warming up and Andy Dyson closing the night out. They are the top two DJ's in the country on the nighter scene right now and the timing of their sets should reflect that (IMO of course).
  20. Previous topic at
  21. there's a matrix stamp or something similar under the label on the original, can't remember off top of me head what it says.
  22. I don't need to join any brigade, I say it as I see it...whether that view is right or wrong is a different matter.
  23. The flyers for Lifeline say Rare Soul, that is what it is a Rare Soul Scene. Lifeline is advertised as the DJ's playing the very best in Rare, obscure, forgotten and underplayed soul music. Even though the policy is clearly stated on the flyer we still get complaints. Personally I don't go anywhere with a closed mind, I've been around long enough to know from the promoter and from the DJ's what to expect. If I go to an oldies night I expect oldies and I don't complain......I also read what the flyer says and what is said on forums such as this. I know full well what sort of night I will be getting music wise. I suppose I am being protective but shouldn't we all be a little protective about something we care so much about and put a lot of time and effort into? What gets me though is people complaining when they clearly don't know what they are complaining about or complaining when they clearly know what sort of night it is they are going to.
  24. Why should the term "upfront" be used? I don't think upfront is a very good term to describe what is being played. I don't consider myself an upfront DJ either. I just play or try and play records that 95% of the other DJ's are not playing, I try and play something different, something forgotten and if I get hold of something unknown then great. I try and use a bit of imagination and not follow the flock. I love Northern Soul, Rare Soul, Modern Soul or whatever soul you want to call it, but I've no wish to go out and hear the same records today I first heard nearly 30 years ago no matter how good they are, and by and large they are good, better than many that are played under the banner of "rare" "upfront" blah blah blah. Did all those who have returned to the scene in the mid 90's and by and large changed it into a retro scene, hearing the same stuff they heard at Wigan and nothing like the scene before they returned, listen to the same top 40 every week whilst they had forgotten the scene existed? No I doubt they did. So why should this scene remain stuck in a time warp when there is so much good music out there. I personally can't see what pleasure other than social can be got listening to the same records every week, it would bore me to death. Most of the negative comments I see towards the so called "upfront" seem to come from the oldies crowd, why don't they just stick to the oldies if they don't like what others are playing? There are more than enough venues catering for their needs. Leave those who want to listen to something different to do what they want.
  25. What amazes me about all this rare bashing, many of the tracks in the main room (oldies) were rarer than the tracks played in the so called rare upfront room. The room was called Soul Expression, a room for the DJ's to use a bit of imagination and express themselves unlike in a main room playing the top 200 oldies ever where a DJ isn't allowed to express himself because the punters are stuck in a 40 year old time warp.
