Playing Funk Records At Soul Venues
I scrolled back and found no reference of Fred & Turbines so assumed it was Fred Williams. Big George spin isn't it the FW?

Northern Soul Deejay's Of The Future ?
Well April sees two of the youngsters talked about in these pages getting their chance on the big stage and showing just what they are capable of. Beat Boutique's Liam Quinn and Paul Barker will be gracing Lifeline's decks along side Ted Massey, John McClure and some of the residents. Hope some of you making your voices heard will come along and support the lads Liam was well chuffed when asked last night

I agree, usually all the best dancers sit down cause they know someone simply doing acrobats for the sake of doing acrobats will be picked ahead of them. If we do have to suffer one lets see the emphasis on proper dancing.

Bradford Queens Hall Flyer
Hi Gigs. To be honest when I went into town last summer I didn't see him so not sure if he still does it. He was on the bottom market, top corner where the Baked Potato van is, near the bank and Town Hall revenue offices. The stall was more plants/shrubs than flowers. He and his partner have/had a nursery at Linacre somewhere. I remember the Aqua mate, there is a video on Youtube of it....

Some nice tracks in there Bob, i'll download later. Have you sorted that Itunes link yet, I wouldn't have to worry about downloading then all done automatically.- Where's The New Discoveries ?
Andy Dyson been playing One Track Mind and occasionally the other side (which isn't as good played out) for 5 or 6 years. One Track Mind has been on a Goldmine CD for years as well but no one was interested in it When Sam got a copy he actually reviewed I'm Surprised in Manifesto (Ithink it was) uncovered whilst Andy still had them covered up, don't thibnk many realised or didn't read it.- 2011-03-10: The Prestatyn Weekender - March 10th - 14th 2011
I hope for the dance comp they play some records that show off the footwork of the dancers, not simply records for some to throw themselves about aimlessly- Tears - Good Luck My Love / What
I'd have said £75 myself. It was simply demand that doubled the price. Seen them about cheaper than a ton and plenty gone through ebay cheaper.- Crossover Soul
Not saying what posted is in any way bad. I know mnost of us are aware of what is what and all fine with what is in there but I've seen comments got to the Crossover Friday topic to find out what crossover is, some will go away thinking ballads as crossover. Keep doing what you do, some great music in the topic. I'd have called it Simply Soul or something like- A.c Poston Value?
I was gonna say £30 but will go with Pete's £40.- Playing Funk Records At Soul Venues
basically agree with all you say Paul. Dealers have just about taken what they can from Crossover, taken it far beyond what it originally meant, maybe Funk is their new Crossover, hey if it helps sell a record.....- Playing Funk Records At Soul Venues
Don't agree with most of it myself. WP getting like the red tops, Sun etc.- La-Jay Alexander - Say So - Black Gold
Ronnie Shannon is on Black Gold too. Same backing different lyrics.- La-Jay Alexander - Say So - Black Gold
I am in touch with La Jay. If anyone got a copy for £30 or £40 give us a shout.- Crossover Soul
There is a ballad topic in refosoul somewhere. Thats where things start to get confusing when tracks that aren't what the topic is about are added.- Playing Funk Records At Soul Venues
There might only be 25/30/40 people contributing but you can bet that many more share the same views, from both sides. I know of many who share the same view as Joan, Headsy etc. I can remember not too long ago St Ives lookback there was uproar from the punters for the funk set played by two well know DJ's, I've seen the more funky stuff clear the floor at many nighters including Lifeline. By same token I've seen full dance floors. I personally think you get a good representation of what goes on out there from people on here, especially if the topic is conducted in a civil way. I find the only time you get a view that isn't fully represented is in lookbacks, tho whose didn't find everything tickity boo often keep quiet. This topic IMO has had good input from all sides of the argument how many views do you want for it to carry any weight? 65% of the membership of Soul Source Whats wrong with having an opinion on a topic, especially if the topic is conducted in a civil manner like this one? If you want peace love and harmony become a hippie- Frederick Hymes Iii - Time Ain'T Gonna Do Me No Favour (Fab Vegas)
might be better moving all the non sales related posts to the topic in Look at your box?- Frederick Hymes Iii - Time Ain'T Gonna Do Me No Favour (Fab Vegas)
playing devils advocate, 1999 it was unknown, doesn't mean it didn't exist. Records do turn up even today that were not previously known about. Maybe there are two different presses of this, done at or around the same time but at different plants for financial reasons?- Playing Funk Records At Soul Venues
You are talking about the Northern Soul scene, not soul music. Northern Soul embraces many genres of music not just soul. We coined it Northern Soul which we all know isn't necessarily Soulful, some of it simply Pop (doesn't make it Soul), and then to complicate it further we made up a load of other genres, crossover, modern blah blah. I'm not saying Funk isn't soulful, some Pop music is soulful but at the end of the day Soul and Funk are different. Both genres might have the same musicians etc, both genres are played on the NS scene but you can clearly hear the difference IMO the music we love is simply Rhythm and Blues, this encompasses all the sub genres that come from it, Soul, Funk, Disco etc IMO. Today we have Urban, House, Hip Hop etc under the Contemporary Rhythm & Blues umbrella and Mobo's (Music of black origin). pretty good description at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhythm_and_blues- Rudy Love - Wanted
