  1. two previous topics on this subject for you to catch up on....
  2. Hi mate, hope you can, subscribing is so much easier, don't have to do owt once you've subscribed For some reason the download is stopping after about 8mb. I'll try the one hour ones....
  3. Hi Steve, the download link didn't work for me, so I copied and pasted it and got about a minute and half Havin' another go. Pity the show isn't made available as a podcast and a subscription via iTunes made available, I presume it can be done as Roger Williams show is???
  4. Topic locked at the request of Darren.
  5. We didn't think that all the talk of violence looked too good on this topic. Regardless of what we think should happen to people like the one concerned in this topic and what we might like to do to him it could be detrimental to Darren's case and have other knock on effects. For this reason we decided to remove all talk of violence and what you might wish to do to the culprit, all the off topic has also been removed. If you have anything further to add please ensure it is constructive, any more off topic and talk of violence will simply be removed.
  6. It has been discussed on here before about a 7inch of Think About It Girl and in the past I could have sworn everyone was under the impression that it didn't exist on a 45 and that Ian's was home made, an emi/cut with a self made label. It wasn't until Ian offered it for auction that opinions changed. I dobt saying it didn't exist would have stopped anyone looking for the 45. I've seen the Lp for around £30 plus.

Styrene is also brittle and if you try to bend it it will snap in no time, viinyl is a bit more flexible and will give before it snaps. Styrene (properly, Polystyrene). Hard, relatively inflexible plastic used to press records, mainly 7-inch singles, mainly using the Injection Moulding process. The material is heated to a liquid form and is then squirted or injected into the closed stampers in the press. This requires that the labels be either glued or painted on after the record leaves the press. The cost savings to the manufacturer comes from the extended life of the stampers because of the lack of a heating cycle to the stampers. The material can also be reused without noticeable change to its moulding properties. Styrene records will therefore usually have very quiet surfaces when found in an UNPLAYED Mint condition, but unfortunately they will wear to a noisy condition rapidly, especially if played with a bad stylus or an improperly tracking tonearm. They also are more prone to Cue Burn. The Columbia Records Pittman, New Jersey pressing plant was once the major source of Injection Moulded Styrene pressings, and pressings from this plant are found on MANY small labels. Look for the glued-on labels. Painted-on labels can be found on records from the Amy/Bell/Mala group. Vinyl (properly Polyvinyl Chloride). Relatively flexible material used since the early 1930s to make non-breakable records. Its fumes are an acknowledged carcinogen, so don't breathe in deeply when you have your next holy burning of Beatles or back-masked devil-worship records. :-) Usually pressed by Compression Moulding which allows the label to be an integral part of the pressing itself. This process also requires that there be extra material which spills out the sides of the press, therefore this extra material is routinely ground up and re-used. Because vinyl does not re-heat and re-cool to a smooth, glossy surface, the excessive use of re-grind mixed in with Virgin Vinyl can account for the inherently noisy surface of even Unplayed Mint examples of the cheap pressings that some record companies used. Noise can be seen AND HEARD by looking at and/or playing the un-grooved surface of the lead-in and lead-out areas. If this area looks or sounds grainy, then the grooves will also have some of this grainy background sound. The stampers used for the compression moulding process will start to break down after only 1,000 pressings because they are forced to expand and contract when heated by steam at the start of the pressing cycle and then cooled to solidify the record. Some companies routinely overused their stampers for their pop record series.
  8. so you've heard it out at a venue half a dozen times in a year, my point exactly
  9. There is female backing on the issue as well? Thought the issue and demo were the same except for spelling? or are there releases without backing?

Butch for me. His set(s) at Thorne simply showed why he is streets ahead of anyone else, not just the 60's but crossover, 70's, funky stuff, outstanding. He's constantly done the business at Lifeline and 100 Club. Andy Dyson his closest rival on the all-nighter scene still finding stuff not just for himself but others as well. Too many others to mention have done the business this year.
  11. One of my faves, fantastic record
  12. Thats great Ady and I hope some chase you for some. Think the Paramount Four certainly benefited from someone like Sam getting it and then everyone all over the country hearing it, the only time I heard it was when I heard either Marco or your good self. Like I said I've heard the Willie Bollinger out once played out at Just Soul (don't think the cd was out then?), same for Candi.
  13. Rather than litter the forums with several topics wishing everyone the best for Christmas can we just use this one topic. I will pin it so that everyone can see it at the top and not miss it. If no objections I will merge the other topics. On a personal note I would like to wish every one a very Merry Christmas and a Soulful and prosperous New Year
  14. All these threats of violence and you haven't a clue who might be reading. I personally think all the bravado should be left off here and simply leave it to Darren and his legal team unless you can offer some real assistance. All the talk of knocking seven shades of sh*t out of someone and others threats, even if they deserve it, doesn't really help and could be a hindrance to Darren and his team.
  15. The Candi Staton too? Certain DJ's had these before the CD's but you rarely heard them. I was talking about this to Ady Pountain at the Wilton that some great promotion is missed out on because the tracks that are due for a 45 release are not available to DJ's who could do a superb promotion job for you.. It would be good for some of the regular all-nighter Dj's to get the chance to play them out. Just a thought
  16. Why aren't these tracks made available to the scene in general so that they can be heard out week in week out by the scenes main dj's at some of the main venues? Think Ace/Kent missing out on a great way to promote the records? Apart from the cd I've heard the Willie Bollinger out once, at Just Soul. I don't get the chance to listen to the radio on a Sunday morning either.
  17. What is impossible about Tell me It's Just A Rumour? Already said twice that it was available on an LP in 1967. Who did discover Out on The Floor and where was it played then? Enlighten us. I thought Brian was a DJ at the Wheel so how can you say he never went? How come you are always right and others wrong? You're memory surely can't be so tip top all things considered?
  18. Opinions like ars*holes, we've all got one I did put IMO and you are right it would be boring if we all liked the same stuff. JR and BJE for me are better dancers with better arrangements, flow that bit better for the dancers. The Keith and Billie doesn't do anything at all for me.
  19. Swish, chill out, no need for the aggression. You have had two or three goes at Brian Phillips now over Wheel spins and now had a go at Kegsy. No ones memory is perfect, especially from so long ago.
  20. Pretty sure there was an acetate of JR as well, I've certainly got a recording of it, if you search Chris's sales you will come across it. Knowing Chris there will be a few dodgy acetates as well as he was getting them cut and putting old labels on them. The supposedly real acetates were too cheap if they were real IMO. And I'm sorry but the Keith and Billie is sh*te compared to both Jimmy Radcliffe and BJE takes, IMO of course.

Mello Souls is of course We Can Make It.
  22. To be honest Popsike and Collectors frenzy would be the last place to go for a value as auctions are simply to unpredictable and are littered with freak selling prices and as said far too many are not even on these sites. Gemm is by and large expensive, prices rounded up, the added costs added on etc. Sites like Soul Source and the dealers are the best indications of a real world price, what they sell for on lists and on the shop floor of venues. Basically use all the resources at your disposal if selling then you can use your own best judgement depending on what you have in the record (what it cost you) and what you want to make or lose. Some want to sell a record and get 100% profit, some happy with 1%, 5%, 10% etc just as long as they make a bit back and cover costs. Some can't afford to sit on a record till they get what they want some can. Lots to take into consideration depending on your circumstances.
  23. I'll add that one to the list, got to get back into reading in the New Year.....

I didn't say you had compared Burnley to Stafford, that was someone else earlier in the topic. Think the term "sound" and "tune/record" getting mixed up. I've already said Burnley had a sound of it's own so will leave at that. Off for another Gonna have to restock soon
