Just how rare is it on a demo John? I only knew of one till Friday when someone told me they'd just acquired on a trip stateside. I agree with your 4 figure valuation too. It's a record I've rated for years since Paul Donnelly put it me on a tape years ago and Andy Dyson has been playing it for few years. John Philips was the only other copy I knew about till the few thats been about in recent times.
  3. No, I don't think its MJL, not to these ears. The acetate is uncredited so guess no one knows who it is really. Anyone got MP3 of the instrumental?
  4. it serves you well mate there's another version by Benny Curtis (same singer btw) on Bridges. No where near as good IMHO.

I would have said £150, I saw it for that in a box somewhere couple years ago.
  6. According to an article I read Melba Moore was born Beatrice Melba Smith. I'll find the article and post it.

The Chosen Few is more than £15 nowadays, would've thought nearer £60 as I've seen it for around that and more, whether it's worth that is a different matter. The Shakers I've seen for as little as £15 recently. Nancy Butts seems to be pretty indemand these days and sure one sold for more than the £150 quoted in recent times
  9. John St John and Gash asked the question little while ago... /index.php?showtopic=58716
  10. Not a record for me (I say diplomatically ). I've another version of Searchin' on tape somewhere by The Leftovers on Cenco, will see if I can find it.

Gotta disagree with you Phil. Just how many Mel Williams Burn Baby Burn do you see? One went on e-bay this year for artound £800. Its a rare record IMHO and I can think of quite a few that fetch what this fetched and more that aren't in the same league, both rarity wise and class!!!!
  12. Worth every penny IMHO, and if I remember rightly the other side ain't bad either. Summat wrong with the prices when you consider the amount of times you see some records for £300 over and over and the amount of times you see this!!! Anyone got MP3's of both sides?

  15. Martin Brogan (I think) did me a tape years ago of cover versions by "non" soul artists. Sure this was on it. Will have to have a root through the cupboard and see if I can find it.
  16. Yep one of my spins....cheapie but a goodie. agree with Rod mnore or less, should be able to pick it up for around £20 .

Both Detroit abd PG owned by Paul Gerranni according to R&B indies. No info of owners for Gloreco and nnot got a scan handy. Clarence Hill would be £500 if I was selling. The two in 2004 Ian mentions were a bargain IMHO.
  23. It's ok people saying prices are coming down but many of those that are high, especially e-bay are bought by bidders who haven't done their homework. Maybe many prices that are supposed to be coming down are just falling back to the level they should be at and not the over inflated level caused by those who haven't a clue or just didn't care what the real worth was, they wanted the particular record whatever the cost!!!! The market saw a huge influx of people who returned to the scene/collecting with plenty of ready cash after paying off the motgage and kids growing up, maybe they are finally realising they don't have to pay top dollar for records? Maybe they are finally doing their homework and looking round for records. Time and time again we've questioned the wisdom of some purchases on the likes of e-bay. Maybe those who's purchases have been questioned are finally waking up!!
  24. How many is quantity exactly? It was about £400 before quantity turned up so would be interested to just how many this guy has?
