  1. Absolutely go for it ... so many positives in everything you're doing . Some of those students and 20 something's of today may be the rare soul enthusiasts of tomorrow. And to have a regular monthly night in a proper large night club can only be good thing , exactly the kind of place where rare soul can attract new, younger devotees in today's world. The soulies with open minds and without prejudices will turn up. Just make sure you completely ignore the small group of tired old cynics who will inevitably poo poo everything you're doing ...
  2. This just sold for $931.00 US. In terms of the highest known prices paid for soul related 45s from the Chess/ Checker/ Cadet/ Argo family of labels, where does this stand? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Frisco-Singers-Aint-No-Sun-My-Girls-Waitin-Chess-northern-soul-funk-45-/351015090845 One entry only on popsike from 2009 and that went for a mere $158.00 .
  3. What happened to want number 7 ?!!!
  4. However the extended remix of Tainted Love which AVI released in the early 80s is a travesty ...
  5. Why is it more uncommon than all his other Curtom 45s then ?
  6. Just wondering, any news on the man in 2014? Is he well, is he active, is he writing and recording, performing even?
  7. B.B King - I like to Live the Love (1973) In 1973 BB went down to the Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia and recorded this great Philly dancer. Turned out to be one of the bigest hits of his later career.
  8. B B KING Heartbreaker BLUESWAY (1967)
  9. Is Vernon still in the land of the living?
  10. As a matter of fact, I'm in the "positive" corner with you and Mikey. I sincerely hope it'll be a world wide smash and have literally millions turning on to soul music and turning up to northern soul gigs all over the world !
  11. Realistically, does anybody believe that this film, no matter how well made and meritorious it may be, at best will do anything other than achieve mid level box office sales in the UK, possibly in time even win a "minor" British film award or two for costume or screen play or such like, and do reasonable business later on as a cult movie with home video sales/downloads? And in the US? Hardly likely to even raise an eyebrow, wouldn't you think? Can't see millions flocking to theatres in the US to turn this movie into a box office blockbuster like Fame or Flashdance , do you? One suspects that, because of the very Britishness of the subject matter, Americans simply won't "get it' ... just like they never "got" The Jam, for example.
  12. A deliberate mis-nomer. Obviously released for the Beach Music scene. Another example is the "Lew Curtan Revue" release. To avoid a slap on the wrist from the rights owners !
  13. " highly commercial pop written with children in mind " ... you mean just like Johnny Caswell, Beverly Anne, Holly St James, Paul Anka ... ?
  14. Much like Raphael Saadiq (and Tony Toni Tone) from the 80s/90s whose work I never really cared for until he discovered where the good grooves really are in recent years...
  15. PMs you on the Dynamics
  16. Amazing how many members on here are literally willing this movie to fail .
  17. The New Holidays .... fantastic record ... both sides
  18. Barry, Chuck Brown is turning in his grave ...
  19. Her voice is very thin and reedy , lacking in substance and depth, just another poppette like Joss Stone, Duffy, Amy Winehouse trying very hard to sound black, isn't she?
  20. Great to see a photo of the group because their LP covers don't give much away !!!
