  1. The Both Sides Now website not only lists an LP by Joshie Jo Armstead on Truth as having been released but actually gives the release number Truth TRS - 4203. It also lists the John Gary Williams Stax LP 5503 as being "re-released" ( so to speak ) on Truth TRS - 4202. Anyone got 'em ??!! Or seen 'em ??!!

  3. As Northern Soul was an underground scene in the UK, it has remained so in Australia. Moving over here from the UK as most of us did, it could take a while to settle in and many weren't aware there was a scene here. Particularly before the internet became part of our daily routine. I think there are lots here in Sydney who don't know yet! Maybe we'll find them this year. The Australian National is an annual event and is held in a different city every year. Last year it was held in The Gold Coast and I accepted "The Baton" for the event to be held in Sydney this year. - 2010 We have been carefully selecting venues - which must have sprung wooden floors! As this is arguably one of , if not the, the biggest rare soul event in the world outside the UK, I trust the that moderators might allow one the liberty of posting this in the main section of the site because of its significance. http://www.sydneysou...soul-downunder/ So many reasons for you all to come ... Australia is one of the few countries to have avoided the GFC ( the global financial recession , stupid! ) so this is a good opportunity to really come "darn south" and enjoy the good times with soul. The sun will be beating down on Bondi Beach and the Barmy Army wil be down in force to watch England get completely stuffed in the first Ashes Test in Brisbane on 25 - 29 November 2010. So you might as well combine your Soul Trip with an Ashes tour and try to forget the lamentable performance of England at the World Cup !
  4. would love a soundclip of this!! BAZ A Was it "(We Are) Christian People" by Andre Crouch & the Disciples on Liberty 7". Think Ian Levine raved about it in one of his columns in Black Music in the mid 70's, saying it was a Mecca spin ....

  6. Bob, no doubt you are aware of The Realistics - How Can I Forget - Brunswick Records - 1973 ? That (US) outfit were from Chicago weren't they ?
  7. Gladys Knight and the Pips on the Soul label.
  8. Definitely not Australian, all US Specialty releases from the 50's in Australia were released on the London (Australia) label.
  9. Ken, this Groove sound clip is the Australian group who themselves were a blue - eyed soul group. I contacted one of their members here in Oz some years ago and he confirmed that they were not related to the US group mentioned in this thread who recorded "Love Its Getting Better". Some Aussie artists of course went to the US to record, notably Lynne Randell with Strangerr In My Arms. The Aussie artist mentioned earlier in this thread who recorded a version of the Willie Kendricks / Hesitations tune "You Can't Bypass This Love" was Marcie Jones. She later went on to record a version of the Velvelettes "These Things Will Keep Me Loving You" !
  10. A ground breaking LP and features liner notes from the semi-legendary Norman Jopling of Record Mirror.

  12. Better off getting the LP, which in itself is quite tough, and the sound quality of is far better than on the 45, and a slighlty different ... and superior take too.
  13. Would have thought Little Anthony would have been the first name mentioned in this topic.
  14. Any particular DJ or DJs playing the Wilson Bros at the moment ???
  15. " Brand New Me " is Lesley's 1968 Northern stomper from legendary New York producer Herb Bernstein who is responsible for a slew of Northern classics like Lynn Randell "Stranger In My Arms" and Lainie Hill "Time Marches On"! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j85wDGhZRDs
  16. " I'll Be Standing By " a great Lesley Gore cross-over tune from her session with Gamble and Huff in Philly in 1968 !"
  17. Lesley Gore "Wonder Boy" surely inspired by Martha and the Vandellas "Heatwave"... and a great Scopitone film reel to boot .. check this out:

Another Candi Staton tip for the top is her superb duet with producer Dave Crawford of "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" off her 1978 House of Love LP. Modern soul heaven.
  19. US LP only. But I'm hoping this sneaked out on a 7" Euro release or South American or something like that .... If you got one ... I'll have it !!!
  20. Can someone please post a scan of the UK release ? What was the the year it was released in the UK ? Were there UK demos and issues ? Where was this played first ? Thanks !
