  1. Well spotted Tony, the tone arms are different, well that makes three of them out there at least ( unless the tone arm was changed at some point )
  2. See Ian Levine in a different light now.
  3. Looks like at some point his neck chains could be a problem, the smaller the moving parts the better . would technics just make one pair, ? would imagine they are worth a fortune ( and cost a fortune to make ) if there are only two of em ,

A man of renown should never wear brown .
  5. Sunny soul, so you had a part in organising that night , what a small world , what year did these nights begin? were these the start of the thriving Australian scene we hear about today , what kind of numbers were and are currently involved ? have there ever been sounds that have only been played in oz ? is it mainly an oldies scene etc, etc.. also, what do you know about " sharpies " , to my understanding this is some kind of working class youth culture peculiar to Australia, are there any parallels to our mods and skinheads and do they follow a certain music ...
  6. Tightrope ,yes , all very early stuff .
  7. What year were the blue BJD pressings made ? anyone know the story behind them? i think they are also early , Chubby Checker and Alexander Patton came out on this , also, Little Anthony , gonna fix you good ( i think )
  8. long time ago ( 1988 ) i spent around a month in Australia, on arrival in Sydney , i made my way down to the cheap hotel / hostel area, Kings Cross, the walls in this area had been fly posted , one of them read TORCH REVIVAL, NORTHERN SOUL .! which suprised me to say the least , point i am making is there were definately soul nights there in the eighties, would be interesting to know more about the roots of the Australian scene .
  9. Harlem, Bill Withers , yes i will go along with that , have picked up three copies of that in recent years . all for well under a fiver , one cost £ 1.00 ,wonderful track.
  10. i know theres thousands of em about but i have always loved gloria taylor you got to pay the price and the stairsteps playgirls love , i,m sure both can still be picked up for a fiver or so . got otis clay , its easier said than done , in the post , paid six quid for it, more i think of it there are loads that can still be bought for a fiver .
  11. Going back to the Phantom janitor debate , whatever the truth of the matter, that picture of the old toilet attendant was magic and in this instance i am going to believe that he was the phantom janitor, regardless of proof to the contrary .
  12. All the best Rod, will call over at some point soon, Carts.
  13. Magic, thanks for putting it on Pete.
  14. Love Holland and Dozier on the avenue , and the jimmy ruffin vocal, good points made about the quality of the unreleased stuff and the fact that in general i agree the quality control got things right...however there must be a dozen or so that were right up there and prove the exception to this , i know the song has been mentioned several times but Suspicion could go head to head with any other motown record , would find it very hard to definitively pick something better ,boils down to personal choice and taste i suppose . frank wilson, do i love you by the way, never really did it for me .
  15. "The Thing, " Greenpoint, Brooklyn, massive cellar of second hand vinyl ( crates and crates of 45s but lots of them in poor condition, ) also at least two other vinyl shops close by, if you do visit the thing, plan to be there for a whole morning or after noon , you will not get through it all, also as it is a charity shop it is dirt cheap , ( word of warning , this place is a dirty dusty cellar and theres guys down there in gloves and dust masks ! take a packet of lockets or some thing and you should be ok .)
  16. Very much agree with agent smith, the sharonettes was massive at wigan , it was one of the first things i heard there ,and it sounded great ...at the time .

  18. yes all that levine stuff was massive at wigan, reaching for the best , the exciters , l j reynolds ,your magic put a spell on me evelyn thomas , weakspot, etc the back room was flooded with tomorrow demos about three quid each at the time
  19. detroit land apples , love that, the thread has got me thinking, where do sounds like spooners crowd , two in the morning , frankie ( loveman ) crocker , ton of dynamite, fit, ? not strictly instrumentals, but could hardly be considered vocals either, both brilliant by the way.
  20. papa o mow mow sharonettes , runaway, chantels ...
  21. budget update, looks like you will be able to legitimately earn the first £ 10,000 tax free soon.
