Was given a book to read recently, "My father and other working-class football heroes" by Gary Imlach. (Excellent book- highly recomended) However......... to cut a long one short. The authors father was a professional footballer back in the late 50's, (Forest, Derby, Bury) are a few of teams i can remember but he never saw his father play. In a quest to find some momentos of his fathers career, the books first chapter finds the author at some sort of football memorabelia/ programme show... and i quote. "Surely this wasn't a love of football, just nostalgia and a love of collecting, which chance or childhood might as easily have pointed towards model trains or Northern Soul" Is this really how outsiders view the scene?

Just been up town on my dinner break and bought a Controllers album on Juana for 10p from local animal rescue. Obviously not had chance to play it! Any thing of note on there.

Didn't Kojak/ Inter-City soul club organise a couple of weekenders. Def remember one at the Norbeck Castle, Blackpool being advertised but i think it was cancelled. This must have been mid to late 70's

I was doing a bit of catalogueing last night (What again!!! as the Mrs says!) and one of the records that i was doing was: VIP 25019 Danny Day - this time last summer/ please don't turn the lights out. Sod awful record but bought a good few years back as a label filler. So onto my question: My copy is on the old yellow/black VIP issue but in her Motown book Sharon Davies has it listed as unreleased. So was it? and who is/was Danny Day?

Think the Weapons of Peace also released an album on the label. Was it the only album issued by Playboy? Major Lance had a couple of things issued by the label as well.

Live on the edge of the Lakes so really appreciate how much time, etc the MRT's give. Would love to see the soul comunity raise some money for them. Talking of 'something much better' - and however heretical it may be to say so - I've always preferred WF's version of "Um Um Um Um Um Um" to Major Lance's. It's one of a select group of Beat Group records that I think outsrip the originals in every department, BURN THE WITCH
