Four Tracks
I met him at the Austin record fair where he had one on display. He also told me he had originally found a box of 24.

Manship's Usa Price Guide 5 Edition
I got mine on Friday, its really good with the integrated boot guide, unfortunately though I have eight blank pages in my copy - printing error. Sure John will sort out on Monday.

Viola Wills
As you say not a bad tune at all, I quit like it, bit of a grower. Just seems strange to me that JM has a President copy for £30 but no mention of the US release in his latest book. Surely it must be worth a tenner?

Viola Wills
Hi can anyone tell me anything about Bronco Records 2055 - Viola Wills - You're out of my mind. I presume it under a tenner as its not in Manship guide? How come it was released on President? Can't seem to find anyone listing this. Just curious as I have one which I bought for a dollar on a trip to the states.

The awesome Shotts Allnighters
Thanks Phyllis, came from the heart, I get a bit melancholy when it comes to Shotts. Be great to see you at Blacktrackin on the 25th. Does anyone remember the night that there was a cauliflower or maybe it was a cabbage on the dancefloor for a large part of the night. Or was I just seeing things? For some reason I think it was a night that Rodger Banks was on the decks. Des

The awesome Shotts Allnighters
Till this day every time I hear certain tunes I'm right back at Shotts. It was the first northern allnighters I went to, 19 yo with the previous years having been spent at mod nights. Shotts opened my ears and heart to so many great tunes, which still fuels my passion for the music and scene till this day. For this I will forever be grateful for the ruff cut guys and the DJ's that played there. Des

Strictly Come Soul Dancin'
Obviously a load of rubbish, who would want to dance with her. Although NS is becoming so mainstream anythings possible. If this ever happens though, I fear that this would be the final nail in the coffin. D

O.v.o And C.r.&.p Venues
I try not to comment on these threads, so sorry for this, but for what its worth heres my experiance. As you all know the self discovery and tracking down of rare soul records on original format at a decent price and in good condition is very time consuming and often detrimental to other aspects of your life. Not to mention the financial burden it can sometimes cause. As Roy Castle sang "dedications what you need if you want to be a record breaker". On the other hand Mr Lazy spends a small wad on grapevine 2000 45's to supplement his old collection he accumulated when he was last on the scene. Armed with his re-charged record box he gets himself a residents spot at a local (who cares) soul night, then djing at other like minded nights and on a regular local radio spot. Well done Mr Lazy. However, it doesn't stop there, Mr Lazy starts copying previously released rare tunes on compilation CD's or MP3's onto carvers. The local (who cares) soul night is now competing head to head with the local progressive soul night. He's proud that hes not as stupid as those collectors/DJ's and has got the tunes at a fraction of the effort. So proud that he brags about it all the time and keeps telling everyone how snobbish and stuck up their own arses the other lot are. Next thing their putting on their second allnighter - its big time. Local progressive soul night now struggles to attract people. This is based on a true story, although I'll now probably get lambasted for telling this.

Too Many Events; A New Slant On An Old Topic, Are The Paying Public Asking For Them? Part 2
I could be wrong but you would think that any decent promoter would state what their music policy was and only book DJ's that they know follow that policy. Sounds like they are hiding behind ignorance. Perhaps there should also be a promoters charter?

Too Many Events; A New Slant On An Old Topic, Are The Paying Public Asking For Them? Part 2
I totally agree with this statement on shooting the messenger. If such a list was created it would probably have to be contributed to anonymously. This would be possible through PM's if someone was willing to compile and publish it (SteveG?).

Austin Record Convention
If all goes to plan then I should be there. I'm booked to be working in Houston for three weeks so intend to spend that weekend in Austin. I've been to Austin before but not to the convention. Anyone up for a few beers?

George Lemons
This was on my wants list for a long time. I did see a few for sale during that time but always seemed to miss out, I finally got my copy this year. So don't be jealous as I'm sure you'll get your copy when the time is right.

George Lemons
Hi Beeks, It's obviously a record that you either love or hate. For me, I love it, hence I have one in my collection. While Georges vocals are good, I really like the arrangement too. Difficult to describe why, but its got that unrefined feel that does it for me, so much so that I sometime listen to just the instrumental b-side. Perhaps I'm strange though.

When Do Newbies Come Oldies
I think it all depends on your definition of a newie and an oldie. I always thought an oldie was something that was played and made big in the 70's before and during the height of northern, Casino etc. While a newie was something that became accepted on the scene after this time 80's Stafford etc. With this definition a newies always a newie etc etc. Could be wrong though, its all a load of shite really. Nice Bits 70s
Hi Sebastian, I can confirm that it was an original that was sold - nice almost orange label, no smudged writting, with a lowercase Superdisc on both sides run out. Looks and sounds almost unplayed near mint condition. I don't know where all these apparent originals are, as I had been looking for one for ages in good condition. As shown by Popsike only 4 on ebay from 2005 to April 2008 and only 2 are deffo original IMO. D

Ralph Graham - Upfront
The reason why there are 4 up here is mainly due to fact we have good taste. As for rarity, I only said that you don't see this come up often. The million dollars book puts it in the estimated less than 50 category. I don't know if this is a good estimate or not but if it is then given the amount of collectors out there and the few times I have seen one for sale, I would personally consider this scarce. A hard one. However, far more important is the shear quality of "she just sits there", the haunting lyrics painting a picture of loss which never ceases to give me a shiver every time I hear it. And given the current job our boys are doing is just as pertinent today. This is what I call soul. Not to mention the other side and the records history of it not officially being released and apparently in small quantity. That's why I would never sell my own copy unless I really had to. I wouldn't be surprised if others, who have this, felt the same. The only reasons this one is for sale is the current owner is down on his luck and needs to sell. So give us a break Link to Refosoul sound file, not from actual record for sale.
