  3. Thanks for all your advice and offers guys, Your all right of course, I always bought records I liked and very rarely chased the crowd. My wants were mainly garnered from tape swops/purchases (Anyone remember Kent Harris' tape "Mess in the pants" that J Manship used to sell?) with many dealers saying it was refreshing to get a list with different titles from the usual ones. I didn't say quantity in any way detracted the quality but its a fact of life in soul collecting that some 45s cost a lot more than others, I just asked what you would do if you started from scratch. I did and still do have a perchant for Epic 70s records and would still like to persue some of that labels releases, Billy Proctor, etc etc. So thanks again.............now where's my E-bay password Blake H
  4. As I'm getting the collecting bug again (after selling up 4 years ago) I wondered how to start up again. I have chased a few titles I regret selling (without much luck) and am wondering which way to go about it. Would you hold out for the big ticket items that you like and have a small quallity collection or buy cheaper items that you like and go for quantity? With the absence of soul packs and dealers with multiple copies along with shops full of 45s, would the internet and venue purchases be the only way to start collecting today? How would you collect yours?? Blake H
  5. The best list I every got was one Ian (Frank) Dewhirst put out called "Vinyl Junkie" it was more like a little book, it was rammed with modern/crossover long before it was popular, with many of the records listed being new releases. It was the list with the Sy Hightower single sided test press. I lent it to a mate and never saw it again. BH
  6. If I had the time I'd write the story of your youth using all the titles and the last three would be Love Child...............................I'm a road runner.............Tracks of my tears BH

  20. I've had four records in the post for a month now and am starting to worry, they are only cheapies but wanted them for a spot in the lounge at Yarmouth. Can anybody give me any advice where to chase them up, US post office, Mount Pleasant sorting office?? Thanks BH
  21. If only it was that simple.....as I said before when you are married in the eyes of the law there is no yours and mine its a "matrimonial assett" and its the intrisic value not cost price. The aristocricy have tried every trick to get great works of art undervalued for years. BH
  22. Sorry folks cant get the file to attach to post. I'll have another go.....'kin computers BH
  23. Just sorting through some old soul mags and found this, what a mouth watering thought, does anyone know if it came to anything? The Tim Daniel 12 wasn't up to much imo BH
  24. Unfortunatley 50/50 is not a reality when kids are involved, I'll be lucky to get 22% of the total marital assets, I'd snap your hand off for 50%, but it was me that bogged off so I guess I get what I deserve . BH
  25. My heart goes out to your mate on this one, I am SIX years into a messy divorce and nearly 20 grand in solicitors fees. Sadly when you are married you dont have "yours and mine" just matrimonial assets and anything with a value of £500 or more has to be declared on Forn E (this is a very comprehensive financial declaration). I even had to supply information about money made from my sales box! ie record found at carboot sale for £1, sold at soul night for £10 and money made from hiring out my decks, once they get there claws into you they want blood. I eventually had to sell my collection (a decision I still regret) and bought a more suitable vehicle, this was deemed transfering an asset rather than disposing of an asset and is depreciating in value (as opposed to the records) My one piece of advice would be if you friend thinks he is not being well represented to change his solicitor, I have changed mine and the new one is brilliant, the yellow pages are full of them and as you only get one shot at this think of yourself as fairness dosn't come into it. I'm always reminded of the cartoon of two farmers pulling at either end of a cow and the solicitor sat underneath the cow milking it dry!! Good Luck BH
