Amy Winehouse - Live
Of course Soul Music is not completely dead however, the Soul Music torch has been carried on to a diminishing degree in small pockets of the US since the 80's by elder statesmen such as Bobby Womack and the late Johnny Taylor as well as the kind of artists that Sean Hampsey referred to in his earlier post, and also artists of the genre that we all used to refer to as "Real Soul" or "Indie Soul" artists through the 80's & 90's. That s an interesting statement to make when I m struggling to keep up with all the new soul that s coming out, and that I would describe as proper soul music rather than soulful house or any other genre. Today I ve got Anthony Hamilton, Ledisi and Chaka Khan for the car. All newish albums (2007) . I would argue that it s a demise in the music industry as we know it rather than soul music .

People Fighting On The Soul Scene At Soul Night
- Did You Clench Your Fist And Say "geddin There You Beauty!"
Mine sounds a bit crap compared to the big finds of you lot but my happiest find was in an antique shop in LA. I d been on a record hunt to NY a couple of years before and had a big romantic vision of how wonderful it would be to spend a few weeks travelling around and hunting for records. Me and the ex went off to California all ready to find some massive tunes and have a bit of a holiday. Oh how the reality sucks! I d been behind the radiators in a shop in New York and looked at some wet vinyl in the cellar of another shop and thought that they were extremes! Wrong thirty year old records that have been stored well are filthy and covered in dust, the ones that have been stored badly make you want to cry. Looking for records in most shops or Record barns leaves you filthy, hot and knackered, most places had been raped by Japenese collectors who had sent lists of labels and had taken almost everything.Soon hours of looking to find a few mid priced bits got less interesting (for me) and as the sun was shining outside I did less and less. One day we ended up in an antique shop and I mooched about thru the racks and found a 1 dollar wonder Beloyd Get into my Life. It s not big or clever but it is a record I love and it made the sun come out that day for me. I performed the "ohhhhhhh I want this one jig " in the aisle of the shop until my partner mentioned the need to look unimpressed for the till haggle. It still has its one dollar sticker on the run out groove and every time I look at it it takes me back to a happy moment in LA many years ago.- So
We saw em at Stoke Billy, but I d go again- Four Tops & The Temptations Concerts
Each to their own Chalky but Ronnie Mc is still recording new material and has all the soul credentials that I need . I ve seen him live doing his own show, which was wonderful, and would happily fork out £35 to see him again, on his own or in this line up.- So
I d love to see Jerry Butler, but think I d do as Chris Morgan and see him in the States. Saw Angie Stone last night who was as wonderful as I expected, the new stuff sounds great. I ve been ticking the acts I ve wanted to see off my list a lot recently, some were a total disapointment, some were brilliant, can I please see Gladys Knight doing two hours (in a non cabaret style) Anne Nesby , Jean Carn(e) and Chuck Jackson. And can I see them all in a little venue, with great bands, arrangements etc. TIA- The Bloody Snake
It still wouldn't make me buy Lambrini though....yeuck if you want to get squiffy for cheap you're better off with a two litre bottle of white lightening and that will definitely get the oil stains off your drive- Eddie Holman
My photos are of couples dancing together...Gabi and Joanne, Dave and Sue Bell and Ant and Nita are all slow dancing!!!!!!!!!! I remember Eddie being very sweet and signing stuff, he was lovely to meet ..shame about the singing- Eddie Holman
He was on at the 86 club or Nautical William in the late eighties, live on stage with Dennis Lee ))) My ex husband bought a copy of Wanted in three states off him that night. I ve got a heap of photos I took but I dont have a scanner to upload em!- The Dells...will They Ever Come Back? Please Help
I got a Dells live from New York City dvd a couple of months ago, if I can find a teenager later I ll try and upload a clip. I know it s not the same but it s its a good substitute to flying to the states to see them again(and a bit cheaper:)) I came away from Stoke wishing they had done more.... so many tracks I would of liked to have heard. The dvd has There is The Love we had stays on my mind Oh what a night Always together Give your baby a standing ovation A Heart is a House for love Tico on trumpet Stay in my corner- Birth Date Soul?
Dont know about a tune for you Kirsty but you share your birthday with Curtis Mayfield and Eddie Holman.- dkof 26th aug 07 006
So lets get this sorted out....Danny has a girlfriend, Terry has a girlfriend and you have a bottle of J2O..... it cant be your looks or charm can it???????????????? luv Rich xxxx- Northern Soul History?

Shhhhh, I ve still got the boxes under the stairs to look thru...some of us have children to feed and cd s to buy! I may have one to hoist.- Kenny Hamber
Not much help but I bought the million dollar 12" in the mid eighties for over a tenner Not much of an investment was it?- Anthony White - Hey Baby & Never Let You Get Away
Sheer lunacy...- Things To Do In Kettering When You're Dead (bored)
Ignore him, he lived here briefly til we got shot of him! The do at the Ath' in Kettering will be oldies orientated. The last one was brilliant and raised £2000 for the local hospice but expect an older bunch of punters! The Ath in Bedford will be a fabulous night but is a fair drive unless you can con a relative to drive or go by train! It s my lovely man s 40 th on the 7th so we may be partying somewhere glamorous ( like Nuneaton!) But if you pm me nearer the time, I ll see if we can find you some soul! xxx- Ain't Nothing But A House Party.....soul At A Friends House
Hey Mark Staying in is the new going out! Pete and Claire are the king and queen of the after event or house party and I ve had some brilliant nights there ( I ve got photos of the dancing but cant post them on a public forum ) You know that your getting old when you would rather have some like minded people round the house than go out. Forget the lure of the dancefloor its the lure of the leather sofa. x- No More Games
Thanks Kirsty and Wally! That s another that one can go into our holiday fund! x - Did You Clench Your Fist And Say "geddin There You Beauty!"
