  1. Tony Clarke Landslide was being played in soul clubs in the late 1960,s all around the NW before NS had been termed we had a copy on Silcocks waltzer on which I worked in the late 1960's early 70 .71 along with Tommy Neil going to a happening, I bought that one in Ashton under Lyne in 1968 so these DJ, s only played something that was already there and already known to lots of people ML
  2. Jackie Wilson was the cream of the crop with his voice as good as anybody, Combined with his Stage performance and live performances he was Double cream of the crop a true legend admired and envied by the best, what happened to him was a real tragedy, I BELEIVE Barry White gave him a lot of support in his last years, Mick L
  3. Totally agree with you Pete at least you can remember how good they were and say I've seen them for real my point is the expectations people have if they weren't so high they might be pleasantly surprised and if the artist is good that's an added bonus I'm lucky that I've seen most of these artists starting over 50 years ago so just to know they are still alive never mind performing gives me a buzz, Iwas just being honest with my opinion did not for one minute think that people were being personal or mean ML
  4. Little Anthony is 76 years of age first proper tour over here in 2017 came on David Guests soul tour in 2014 I might be wrong but I think it was maybe is first visit here in 2014 I saw him and to be truthful I thought he gave a pretty good account of himself on that tour although not singing his northern soul favourites such as ""Better use your head and gonna fix you good" he's probably never performed them for years I wasn't there but don't you think we should cut some of these ageing soul stars a bit of slack they have earned their stripes through the years ML

There are loads of good blue eyed soul artists soul music and feeling comes from within not the colour of the skin, Just think of Wayne Cochrane, PJ Proby, Tom Jones, Len Barry, Early 1960,s White popcorn singers Eden Kane Jimmy Justice, Billy Fury, all those had Soul and had fantastic Soulful voices you can go on forever with these lists they are endless but the old chestnut only blacks can sing soul is ludicrous and very tunnelled visioned ML
  6. Underrated, made some really good tunes did Johnny Daye Sean ML

Hi Robbie It was meant slightly tongue in cheek but I admire your clinical dissection of my thoughts anyway ML
  8. Was lucky enough to see Chuck still in his prime at the Cavern in Liverpool early 1967 and watched him close the show at the London Rock n Roll Sow at Wembley in 1972 all the Legends played that day and night including Little Richard , Jerry Lee Lewis Bo Didley you had to be something special to follow them on stage and Chuck was very special indeed, Rest In Peace Chuck ML

  12. I told everybody in my soul World it made ballyhoo out of the Boffins ML
  13. That record was a disgrace totally phoney and anybody who didn't realise that certainly don't know as much about music as they think they do hence the embarrassment from the so called boffins of ballyhoo DJ,s who fell for it, ML
  14. Simply too many to choose from ML
  15. For Gods sake don't let Adele or any of the current crop near anything NS, Even no disrespect Beverly Knight they just haven't got it and never will, I'm sorry but I can't detect any real soul or substance in Their voices. Somethings are better left alone ML
  16. When politicians and Senior Police say "Strong Lessons have been learned from this."No they haven't" When the same people say"It's not in the publics interest"" Who gave them the Monopoly on Wisdom. ? When talking to the Police they always say "I didn't catch your name" That's because you never mentioned it. All the above are a Embarrasment to the Public
  17. ABSOLUTELY At The End Of The Day ML
  18. Give it a Miss.it will only make you ill, you would have to use Einsteins theory of relativity and quantum physics to even dent NS scene, Then you have to Study for five years, practise for five years then it would have evolved either backwards ,Forward or Sideways so you would be back to square one because it's a way of life complicated but at the same time simple for those who know. Stick to tribute bands in your hotels and I don't mean that in a disrespectful way Good Luck Best Wishes Mick L
  19. I met Ronnie when he was performing in Tenerife a good few years ago he was still in terrific form then I won A soul question contest which he was compèreing he ended up sat with us and being very interested in the NS scene in GB He asked us would we go with him to the Castle where he was standing in as one of the Drifters a real genuine guy. Mick L
  20. It cost 37.5 pence to watch the Tamla Motown revue at the Wigan Ritz in 1965 we were already into the music because we had what were termed at the time soul and R n B clubs not NS although Much of the music would reappear 10 years later and be named NS Keep On Remembering ML
  21. Some of these tracks are fantastic, The Marv Johnson track is 100 per cent NS, Unbeilievable that these tracks were never released. ML
  22. Some of the tunes mentioned on this thread Iwould term crossover but many I wouldn't I suppose everybody has there own interpretation of crossover mine is the productions that have a jazzy cabaret feel about them.I suppose you could say a more sanitised version of soul. it's not for me but neither is Country n Western ML
  23. The year 1965 when soul clubs bobbed up every where, playing Club soul leading on directly to what became the term NS, and the finding of records which were not MAINSTREEM but we're perfect for the atmosphere, Dancing in a dark hot sweaty club. ML

Great version by George, very underrated British Soul Artist who when he chose that genre of music was very good indeed. Mick L
  25. There are thousands maybe tens of thousands of sounds what sound like Motown,You could fill a book with them on all kinds of Labels and recorded in different cities all over the USA.The Motown Sound in the 1960's was a great innovative genre of music but there were other great recordings from other labels and studios running parallel with Motown producing great sounds. As Regards The Invictus label and it's sounds it was the end of the 1960's and I always though was an extension of Motown carrying on similar sounds into the early 1970's using some of the same staff that Motown used in those great years, but there are subtle differences what NS would notice in all the soundalikes what the man of the street wouldn't notice. keep on trucking ML
