Agreed, most of the covers I have run by are Carolina's based, William Dell( with a D) also cut a version on Staceys golden wax. The artist sounds black to me, but can't be sure. Has anybody else had anything else by this guy or know anything about him as a recording artist? Andy

Venues that play no soul titles like the Strangeloves is good enough reason to stay well clear.

Just how annoying can it get when records like this are assosiated with a site called Soul-source. The vocalist could be Jagger and the backing track could be duplicated by a four year old in four seconds. Nothing to do with soul and left well alone by soul fans who know what good nothern consists of.

I found that period really interesting for the underground soul scene. All though they were classed as a modern soul event, early and laid back seventies was gaining in popularity Andy Whitmore was really in to it, and Graeme Ellis ( who looks about 14) in the caption had also got a taste for it. So in reality the genre's were infact poles apart. To clarify this, I remember Bob Jones played Bobby Wilson's 'Don't shut me out' while Sam was playing the new Alexander o' neal LP!. Think I went to all three, if there was only three. Happy days, and for once not two hundred miles away. Thanks to Mark George for posting up the Set he played. I am pretty sure that a couple of those tracks have not visited these ears since. A great little caption in history. Andy

Once again the Jim wray lounge brought us another fine selection of that bottomless pitt of down beat soul. The great thing I find is the number of brilliant recordings by well known artists that are new to me or had been overlooked., not to mention the very rare 45s. All the sets I got to listen to had a good number of head scratchers or a visit to the decks. I'm affraid I dont think i'm being a bit harsh. Both tracks sound nothing more than throw away LP tracks to me. So what on earth is so special about 'Sinner man' ? Some could make a case for it's thought provoking lyrics, trouble is there's not enough of them and it's all a bit vague. If that track is her best dancer then it is plain to see why her reputation as a song writer far out ways her reputation as a performing single artist. This is poles apart from her best work.My point is who ever decided to boot this obviosly thought they would score, unfortunatly it's an own goal imo.

Really dont see the reason why anyone should get hung up about it's Authenticity as a release by Valerie Simpson. It's a piss poor version compared to the others like Ed Robinson. Really do wish people on here would spend more time thinking about the value of the music as a black american artform than it's authenticity as a piece of plastic.

Don't want you to get wrong with anyone, but the Ted ford came out in 75 on US Stallion, two years before the uk one. So it is in fact not uk only.

If counting cd's by solo artists then it must run into thousands. There are so many artists who re- recorded material from the days when they where in a group. However from a vinyl perspective L. J Reynolds solo and Dramatics, Philip Wynn solo and Spinners, Jerry Butler solo and Impressions, General Johnson solo and Chaimen of the Board, Eugene Record solo and Chi lites, William Hart solo and Delfonics, Mark Green solo and Moments spring to mind. In fact it must run into the thousands with LP tracks. As others have also mentioned there are numerous 45's which are infact the same record, all be it a slightly different mix, Reggie Garner as Gods gift to Women springs to mind. Andy

Exactly Dave, Some people just dont get it! Like I said in my previous post on this topic and what several have mentioned since , it is friction caused by revolving the disc several times back and forth faster than the speed it actually plays at. Most man made materials have different tolerances regarding friction and rubbing before they increase in temperature and become damaged. Like I mentioned before it's not rocket science.

Carolinas boot if I remember. There are some pretty obscure looking boots out there, most of which are probably ten times rarer than the originals. Others that spring to mind are Mandrill 'Too late on Mud island, Betty Wright 'Man of mine' on Tnt. Think the Invitations 'Look on the good side' is on some odd looking thing as well. The Randy Brown cut has an A.C Reed track on the flip, which is normaly the give away. Andy

The reason why so many styrene copies of all those old chestnuts start with a hiss is simply because of all the dj's who actually owned them had no clue how to treat them. If you watch them 90% revolve the bloody thing back and forth at a speed 5 times faster than they were designed to play at, no wonder they suffer from cue burn. The stylus weight x friction equals disaster. Hardly rocket science.

Maybe looking to move this one on, and a bit unsure on current value. So any thoughts would be helpfull Cheers Andy
