  1. utter nonsense comedy record, i'll break the sales rules and if anyone wants mine for next to nothing drop me a message, the other side was mildly amusing when I was a youngster ROFL comedy sale of the day LITERALLY
  2. Hi Russ There are very few people in Brighton on 'the northern scene', I was at Paddy's do Sat as I was playing in the modern room and it's well run and very packed. But it's a predominantly a local oldies crowd for the northern side, Paddy runs a commecial soul night every month and gets 100's in and they are the people that were there, I doubt 99% of those people had ever been to any other allnighter than Paddy's and they're certainly not looking for anything they haven't heard before. Which is fine, it's what they want. The odd free Volks do's are predominantly oldies and rnb/mod sounds and not well attended, there are more people from the mod scene usually than the soul scene. Simon is right in one way, Brighton is a soul desert in many ways apart from a handful of people, certainly not enough to make a decent crowd for what you are trying to do. Also, accommodation is expensive and hard to get all year round. I'd like somethng to happen here and if I thought it would work i'd be up for working with someone on it, but to be frank, ive tried doing anything other than what I would consider to be 'more commercial northern' and it's a complete waste of time, nobody is interested here m8. There are much stronger scenes going west along the coast. The only things that ever worked soulfully were when we moved away from northern and concentrated on a small modern room with the main room being house, bringing in a different crowd altogether. Despite what people think there is very little heritage of northern in Brighton, it's a transit town where a large % of the population are students, so it's all more about fashion. So, sorry to be negative but I think it's a mountain you'll never climb unless you're expecting 50-150 to attend. Also bear in mind as Andy says, names don't attract punters down here as nobody know who they are, it's more of a word of mouth social scene not related to the rest of the country, so you do need a lor of travellers, and generally i always found the M1 only goes north for most people LOL cheers Paul
  3. They're great comps and it would have cost a fortune to by them all on 45's, not that you'd ever get them all anyway
  4. These are pretty odd too, I believe they originate from Holland and were pressed for the Surinamese scene there, they are a mixture of deep, southern and surinamese soul. Never seen a volume 2 of any of them and the covers are all dodgy as hell cheers Sutty
  5. nothing like that on them Mal, just cheekily 'all rights reserved Soul From The Vaults' lol
  6. Anyone know the origins of these series of unofficial albums, I have a bunch of 'artist' ones (WIllie Hightower, Wiggins Brothers, Barbara Brown, James Phelps v George Freeman, Bobby Harris, Danny White, etc) and also 5 volumes of 'Rare Deep Dynamite'. They're all mainly deep stuff. Who did them? I've seen pics of a 'sweet' series as well. I bought them years back in 1 hit in a 2nd hand shop, somebody walked through the door with the lot and sold them as 2nd hand. They're great comps, and top quality sound recorded from vinyl. cheers Sutty
  7. booklet pic
  8. Guess what, I had the answer right in front of my eyes all the time. Open up the booklet for the Troubleman extended double cd, and there is a picture of part of label for "T" Plays It Cool on a Tamla Motown 7", pink, red and orange label. Came out in Turkey in 1973! good luck! cheers Sutty
  9. Its very well known, its almost identical to the original and a remake was done better by Onur Engin a year or two back on a 12, and the combined cost of both originals on this 12 will set you back less than the price of this 12. Apart from tha its great, as its a great recording, as it always was
  10. On Juno in the Uk for £7.99 if anyone is after it. I just picked it up for the b-side which I really like, a-side leaves me cold but I'm not into all this 'funky northern' racket lol Cheers Sutty
  11. There is no legit 12" of Eddie Kendricks 'Date in the rain", it was a 7 and album track from 1972, there were no 12's in 1972. The one with Diana Ross is a bootleg, basically the song repeated with some thunderstorm sounds dubbed on.
  12. I'd also be interested to see it or know the cat number, as it doesn't exist in the Tamla series from that time? That wasn't the 45 from the album. https://www.globaldogproductions.info/t/tamla.html cheers Sutty
  13. Don't believe this exists? Last time I said that about a record I was told I was wrong despite there being no evidence of said records existence LOL - happy to be corrected of course! LP and bootleg 12 only? Cheers Sutty
  14. Really to what Pete? Did the skullsnaps come out on EMI France, yes it did, my copy is French. Did they find them there? I was told 300 unplayed copies in boxes, but like I say guess we'll never really know as anyone that went in there will be keeping schtum I expect! cheers Sutty
  15. I remember hearing about this at the time from someone who knew one of the people that got access. The owner of the warehouse passed away and none of his family knew anything about the property, and it had been untouched for 30-40 years (as you can see from the state of it). One of the family went to look at it, opened it up and went 'OMG!!!'. I tried to get a lead on it but was told it had 'gone', presumably because they knocked it down as it was semi-derelict. Something about a rare Psych record that was $500+ and there were boxes of them, untouched boxes of the Skullsnaps LP (which came out on EMI France at the time of release so could be right), and many other finds. Evidently with the Psych stuff in there, if it was all put on the market at once the arse would have dropped out of it for collectors price-wise. Guess we'll never really know! cheers Sutty
  16. Theyre on the south coast, One of the guys came to port soul when I played last month and we had a good chat at the bar about the music afterwards, nice guy and knows his stuff, big soul fan from northern through to modern. They are named after Curtis and worth checking, Cheers Sutty
  17. are you sure this exists, 'stone love' is the album title not a track? cheers Sutty
  18. Well I wouldn't be surprised to see a 'bargain' David Ruffin album in a Sales area near here @£50 in the not too distant future LOL
  19. What you're failing to realise is that in between the time of me posting and you guys checking discogs, the copies I was referring to have been sold....
  20. There are several David Ruffins on discogs right now between £5 and £22 and they're all mint-, in other words they're mint and have been played a few times. Obviously the most expensive is the UK seller LOL
  21. he can burger off at those prices
  22. Wotcha! Yes, before my time here but I was entertained by a certain south coast promoters tales of breakfasts with the major in a Hove establishment. Ten years after ML had died. And back on topic, my parents met at the glider, and the assembly's about to reopen as a nightclub so maybe ML will make another comeback from beyond the grave
  23. It was £8.99 on Juno last week...
  24. Aww man, Shelby Lynne 'I'm leaving' is on there, absolute all time fave, nice one! Some great clips.
  25. Been in Boston, Lincs quite a bit this year and use the wifi in Cafe Nero. Of all places to hear it, it was the best selection of modern day jazz and Latin ive heard, I started Shazaming while drinking my coffee and every visit was discovering loads of US and Italian jazz from people I'd never heard of on labels i'd never heard of. Are they all like this, never usually go in. Cheers Sutty
