  1. I'm sure "Turn me on" got a UK release as "Ocho Rios", by Sugar, on Power Exchange. Anyone any idea why they covered it up? Nick
  2. Is Chuck Corby still on in Wolverhampton on Saturday? Cheers Nick
  3. Stamp Insurance Services (01392 4339490) do other collectables; I have my records insured for £30000 for £162.50 a year. Nick
  4. When I started collecting in 1968, jaws were dropping at the news that someone had paid £11 for Tony Clarke's "The entertainer". A year or so later, "You're ready now" was the first record I knew of to break the £20 mark (that was a week's wages back then). Nick
  5. It's legit, came out around 1977 (a few years after its peak). There's also a boot of the Fat Fish.
  6. It's the same label as Duke & Leonard, the only other title I've ever seen on the label. I had one years ago from Garlic George as part of a typically elaborate trade, didn't think much of it at the time, but I'm sure I'd love it now. Sadly I sold it at a record fair in Birmingham, about 10 years ago. Nick
  7. Searchers - Some day we're gonna love again, and dozens of other 60s hits that were originally by soul acts That thing by Fat Boy Slim
  8. Fantastic, many thanks Dave, I managed to get the publisher name with the aid of a magnifying glass (at least, it looked like "Combine Music"), sent the details to the Beeb, so hopefully some royalty will get paid. Cheers Nick
  9. Can anyone supply composer and publisher details for "Arabia" by the Delcos (either version, I'm not fussy) so I can play it on the radio and try to get royalties paid? Thanks in advance Nick
  10. They also had a release as Jake & John - "We've got to make it better pt1/pt2" on Parral Nick
  11. I haven't got the US to make a comparison, but I'm fairly sure they're the same. Incidentally, I just noticed that the GTO says on the label it comes from an LP "Crazy dancin'" - never seen that. Nick
  12. Hi Shute, how ya doing? I don't know about the Drifters' similarity, but I thought I'd mention that Bottom Line also got a UK release, on GTO. Nick
  13. "Let it flow" also got a UK release on Contempo. I like it too. Nick
  14. I believe he's also the "Ron" in Ron & Candy, who did "Lovely weekend" on Inner City - nice tune Nick
  15. So Mabel John and Kim Weston are the only artists to record for both Stax and Motown? That would be apart from Major Lance, JJ Barnes, Billy Eckstine, the Emotions.....still, nice to see her get some recognition in the National press
  16. Talking of Gene Chandler albums, "The girl don't care" on Coral is a tough one, and mighty fine too.
  17. I hope these come through OK Bob. I found an article by Robert Pruter in "Soul Survivor" # 9, Summer 1988, in which he describes the record as "only semi-released", "Vitually unobtainable" and says it was fetching over $20, way back then. Nick
  18. Also came out on UK Sue, quite a hard one to find Nick
  19. I have a copy of this Bob, spelt "Seniorita", which I bought around 30 years ago. Same number (1905). Everything about the label (black) and dead wax markings is consistent with the 1964 date. I seem to remember reading years ago that this was rare because it was withdrawn after release. Nick
  20. Slightly changing the subject, but I have Joe Haywood "Strong feeling/I'm walkin'" on Front Page, and each side has a description of the track on the label. "Joe Haywood is in fine form on a driving uptempo search for his baby" on the B-side - you'd have to but that, wouldn't you? I wonder if these were put on demos? Any other records with a review on the label

Both the Mod & Philips releases had "I need your help baby/It's a mess I tell ya", you're probably thinking of the Blue Rock release of "It's a mess I tell ya", whichc did have a different flip.

Johnny & Jake "I need your help Baby" also came out on both Mod & Philips, didn't it? There was also a company sleeve for Mod, similar design to the label.
  23. I think Mark Bicknell did them, legally, around 1994/5
