  1. Maybe worth checking some of the old Blues & Soul issues from 73' they probably had an advert. I'll have a look when I get home. Kev
  2. Yeh, I have that cd as well. The 1966 cd came out in 1995 a good 10 years earlier. Kev
  3. The Motown year by year1966 cd I bought from Goldmine records in Manchester has a different mix of Frank Wilson and also the first time I heard the extra verse in Kim Weston's "Helpless" that was only in the Four Tops version. Kev
  4. I wonder how many of those were taken from master tapes and how many from 45's like it says on the cover Kev
  5. I've got a Goldmine catalogue somewhere, with all of the releases listed. In the 90's the internet was in its infancy and buying cd's was a great way of hearing new stuff if you didn't go to venues.
  6. Spooky. I was just about to type the same thing about GSCD1 Does anyone know what they are worth. Is there a guide. Are they still available, or are they all out of production
  7. Never seen a grey one What's in the run out groove? Kev
  8. Apologies if this has been done before. What was the first northern soul cd to be released. The first one I bought was "Up all night which is 1990 " The oldest I've got seems to be "Rare Soul on CD Vol 1 - The Vocal Groups" on the Soul Supply label (red cover) which is 1988 Also, are any of the northern soul cd's collectable/valuable? Kev
  9. The Supremes with Jean Terrell did an unreleased version of 'All I Need" Kev
  10. https://www.radiotimes.com/episode/dhbkrs/kings-of-soul Set the recorder for tonight . Might be stuff we've all seen before but worth a look Kev
  11. Just checked and it's not Willie Hutch. Clyde McPhatter? Kev
  12. I'm guessing because I'm at work, but is it Willie Hutch - Soul Portrait? Contains "lucky to be loved by you" Kev
  13. I'd like these please Richard Thelma Houston - I ain't going nowhere Headliners - This is goodbye Monitors - I can't get along without you David Ruffin - That world I lived in David Ruffin - Blackmail Kim Weston - Any girl in Love Carolyn Crawford - Until You Came Along Carolyn Crawford - Think of the times Hattie Littles - Love Trouble Heartache and misery Lollipops - Look what you've done boy Edwin Starr and Blinky - We'll find a way Temptations - There's a definite change in you Temptations - I gotta find a way to get you back Chuck Jackson - Ain't no sun since you've been gone Kev
  14. Sounded like a nice bit of Stan Getz at the end of the video. Kev
  15. I'm a northern soul fan get me out of here - A group of northern soul fans have to go to a venue where they only play bootleggs and re issues and they all have to wear 70's clothing.
  16. Condition Condition Condition - A programme hosted by Pete Smith where he takes two contestants to a record fair and tries to persuade them to part with their hard earned cash and buy a top northern sound. Kev
  17. Not so sure on your point about stifling creativity Ian. If anything, I think creativity has been stifled for a long time and anything that reduces this constant sampling will be a good thing. Although sampling and being upfront about it does at least serve to raise revenue for the sampled artist. My daughter summed it up for me the other day when she heard me playing "Curtis Mayfield - We gotta have Peace".... "This guy sounds like Pharrell Williams" she said. I'm not saying there isn't any creativity out there, there is.... like Michael Kiwanuka and Leon Bridges. Kev
  18. Not saying that Mark Ronson borrowed the Gap Band, but you can hear the influences. I've set them at timed points to save torturing yourself listening to the whole thing. Very hard to make new music without having some subliminal song influence you. Kev Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars - Uptown Funk https://youtu.be/OPf0YbXqDm0?list=RDOPf0YbXqDm0?t=67s And the Gap Band - Oops Upside Your Head https://youtu.be/yVjFwcdQlN0?t=446s That didn't work for some reason
  19. It's like beauty......In the ears of the beholder. Like these two. I often see it written on lists that they share the same backing track....they don't...similar ish but not the same. Scientists of Soul Dave Love My Sweet Lord/He's so Fine......... enough to say he copied it, in my book There's also that stupid case of Men at Work in Australia and accusations that they stole "Down Under" from the nursery rhyme "Kookaburra Song" I'll get me coat! Kev
  20. I have to say that when I first heard Robin Thicke's record the first thing I thought was that they had sampled Marvin Gaye. Kev
  21. stateside, on 09 Mar 2015 - 5:46 PM, said: You're right Ady, I don't think it did get picked up until much later. It was in my collection as a new release. I suppose what I was trying to say is that sometimes records aren't discovered and brought to the fore until late on, but that doesn't necessarily mean they are unknown. Kev
  22. Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland.............. wasn't that changed after the naked ladies version. I think Meet the Supremes had different covers in the US and UK, but also had different tracks on them. Kev
  23. Dave Simmons (who replaced Mike Raven) was responsible for Betty Swann - Kiss my Love Goodbye and many more when he played it on his Radio 1 Saturday show back in 1974. Every week he used to ring up a black music radio station in the states and they would run down their top 10 and he would play some of them. Kev
  24. James Jamerson played Upright bass almost exclusively up until 1960. He eventually installed a makeshift pick up on it but switched to 57 Fender Precision after his friend Horace Ruth persuaded him. Kev
