  1. One that did get played quite a bit by Richard was Jodi Mathis - Don't you care anymore. It probably first got played at the Mecca, but it was still quite popular at the Casino. Kev
  2. I've always liked this version, more of a jazzy version by Patti Austin Kev
  3. Seem to remember the instrumental of "Lady Marmalade" by Nanette Workman being played around 1974/75 on Pacha, although I might have heard it at the Mecca. Not sure, someone may remember.
  4. I have the album if you want an mp3 doing. Parts 1 and 2 are separate tracks. Came out on US Magenta distributed by Windham Hill PM me if you want an mp3 doing Kev
  5. I think this is the one you want. Ben Sidran - Lover Man taken off the album "On the Cool Side" on Magenta 1985. I think it's the same song as BillieHolliday. Kev
  6. You're right Pete. I would say 74' Kev
  7. Thelma Houston- I ain't going nowhere Baby Washington I've got it bad Fantastic Johnny C - Don't depend on me Drifters - You gotta pay your dues Herb Ward - Honest to Goodness Teen Turbans - We need to be loved Montclairs - I need you more than ever Pointer Sisters - Send him back Donald Austin - You want it you got it Just some of the less regular ones that were played in the early years to my recollection.
  8. Anyone else have one of these. I think it was to do with the Raven at Whitchurch with Soul Sam. Not sure though and I think Tony Petherbridge might have passed on?
  9. Mine was red. I went very soon in October, not long after it opened, but such was the volume of applications it didn't come in the post until November and as you can see by that time they had already got 3383 members. I always liked the incorrect wording where they said "card" instead of "club" . I've still got the Blues & Soul Magazines where I had cut off the bottom of the adverts to send off for memberships for friends as well. Kev
  10. My pick for today is this fantastic instrumental - I had this as my ringtone on my phone for ages........ alternating between this and Bari Track Billy Preston - Outa Space
  11. You'd think so. Nowt so fickle as folk!
  12. Having said that, they would always get up for this obscure item on PIR featuring Terry Wells of "You make it heaven" fame on lead vocals. Kev City Limits - Love is everywhere
  13. It's funny, even though I used to play mainly funk when DJ'ing in Birkenhead, just like the northern scene, there were records that would empty the dancefloor despite being quality records. Like this from Sir Joe Quarterman and Free Soul - I've got so much trouble in my mind
  14. I think it related to another man in a relationship. "Jody got your girl and gone", "Jody come back and get your shoes, you left your shoes under my bed" ,"Standing in for Jody"
  15. Whilst attending Wigan Casino in the 70's I was leading a double life, playing funk to the scousers in clubs in Liverpool and Birkenhead. I still have quite a big funk collection and love playing this in the car especially with the bass on full whack Cymande - The Message
  16. The official Motown karaoke cd's are a good way of hearing the Accapella versions of motown records. They are split half vocal half instrumental If you turn half the channel down you get just the vocal. Listen to Shake Me Wake me! it's amazing Kev
  17. An excellent read.....truly fascinating. Thanks Lorraine and Dave
  18. Colin has done a lot of research on Johnny Brantley https://indangerousrhythm.blogspot.co.uk Type Johnny Brantley into "search this blog" is the quickest way Kev
  19. What a great double sider The Kittens is. A must have in every collection Kev
  20. Always thought this a great example of feel good music and one to have in every collection. The Orlons - Envy (in my eyes) Kev
  21. I have the album and "You don't mean it" is also a different recording to the A&M single. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it is Gloria Barnes singing on the Ohio Players album and "Love slipped through my fingers" is also her. The pressing on Jo-Mar has her credited as Towanda Barnes on both "Slipped" and "Gotta get away". I don't have the Ohio Players album, does it refer to her as vocalist? The Ohio Players are the featured band on her Uptown version. Kev
  22. This will be a fantastic reference point for years to come, especially if those artists still with us start to interact with us. Having seen the hard work Dave has put into these awards I can guarantee the artists, or their loved ones, will not be disappointed. Kev
