  1. How interesting...could be something or nothing but the discogs page https://www.discogs.com/artist/3810236-Fiery-Bursey from my previous post is coming up as Not Found.
  2. There is a (https://www.discogs.com/artist/3810236-Fiery-Bursey) also written as Flery Bursey- AND- the other writer on stick with me is Walter Fields (https://www.discogs.com/artist/1016441-Walter-Fields). Both have Motown connections.
  3. @Cover-up I've always been interested in this...for many a year. I can add (what might turn out to be more confusion) to this; Remembering that some of the players in this include Steve Royal, Jet label, Survival Label. There was a newspaper 'snippet' from March 1978 that says "Love is all you need" Jet UP 36382 is a rather breathy message from Rita Wright on her debut single this week". Rita who is 21, (note: this would mean she was born in 1957) has worked in several London shows inc Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, and a starring role in The Black Mikado. There is an accompanying Photo to the 'snippet' that has a striking resemblance (braided hair, etc) to Syreeta. According to most sources Syreeta was born in 1946. Interstingly though, the cast of The Black Mikado included Patti Boulaye (under the name Patricia Ebigwei) as Yum-Yum. She also appeared in Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar. And made an appearance on New Faces, 1978. Patricia Ebigwei is the artist on Survival SUR -4 'The Moon & I' producer Steve Royal. Wiki has her down as born in 1954. And again, a striking resemblance to the accompanying Photo in the 'snippet'. Maybe she could also be the vocal on Intimate Strangers on Alaska 105, BUT it could be any female connected to John Shroeder's Alaska label ( e.g Marie Toland aka Tina Tott...another New Faces contestant, Juy 1975). Then we have Esther Byrd (aka Anastasia Rodriguez). As Esther Byrd she appeared with Ray Charles & His Orch + Raelettes at The Odeon, Birmingham on Oct 11th 1978. As Esther Byrd she appeared in Shylock as the character Portia in 1981 at Haymarket Theatre, Leicester and as Anastasia Rodriguez appeared in Shylock as the character Portia in1982 at Library Theatre, Manchester, You can find recordings of 4 songs from the Shylock productions at Zforzando (label) ZF001 (Discogs). Interestingly again...Her West End credits include playing Katisha in The Black Mikado at the Cambridge Theatre and Jesus Christ Superstar in London & Germany. On Steve Royal - best left to his words 'I have been part of many companies with other directors and i accept my share of the responsibility over failures'. - e.g. Wham & Adam Ant fan clubs, records not released, etc. So...is the Rita Wright in the newspaper 'snippet' Pat Boulaye aka Patricia Ebigwei? And how come we have Rita Wright, Pattie Boulaye and Esther Byrd aka Anastasia Rodreguez as having appeared in The Black Mikado, Jesus Christ Superstar, coincidence?

  8. The Inspirations - Funny Situation (b-side)

One of my hips has been playing me up...(if i can't dance i'll give it up) but 'No Time For You' and others got me up. excellent DJ's all round
  9. @Benji- short answer No. When i spoke (& from my email notes) to Tom DeCillis his memory was a bit vague and i didn't press him on Sound of Soul. Tom was into a lot of stuff at the time.Tom's musical interests during that time was with Bernadette Carroll-The Angels, PM for ARC recording artists The Dynamics, had been Astro's promo man, Julia records, T-D, Bobby Lee, and so it goes on. Ed Leipzig would probably have been the man to ask...unfortunately i didn't!
  10. firm favourite of mine too...and there treatment of ( the oldie crooner) 'stranger in paradise' is something also.
  11. here's a couple more... Carl Holmes (& The Commanders) had a brief fling with Pro Baseball & Football (Full Back & Guard for Willow Grove Athletic Club) Diamond Jim Riley - Pro Boxer.
  12. happy birthday- don't i owe you a lemonade? If so, Saturday
  13. I'm always surprised by the number of Sportspeople connected to Northern 45's. Either artists, writers, arrangers or publishers. Mostly men, and often College Football, Basketball, etc. Just recently bought Don Ray Samson to find out he was a good american football player at San Bernadino Valley College (SBVC). A top pass receiver-pro prospect signing for the Montreal Allouettes 1965, etc). Jimmy Webb (writer of Don's 'Baby Come Back') also went to SBVC at the same time. There must be 100's? some obvious - some not so Put them up...perhaps leave out the obvious ( avoid swamping)

    R.I.P pretty lady. 1965
  15. I haven't Mal...but expect Brewtown are still up to their eyes in the mess they described above.
  16. Motown Museum. You can't stop progress, and i guess it's a good thing...but i can't help feeling it might lose something. Not sure i'd get the same feeling about the place if i visited it when done in 2024. nostalgia hey, it's a bummer! https://eu.freep.com/story/entertainment/music/brian-mccollum/2022/09/07/motown-museum-expansion-renderings/65742369007/
  17. after 2 misses (monthly) really getting withdrawel symptoms now. hope to be back this time.
  18. I thought i'd start a new uncluttered topic which hopefully answers some of the questions in the OP above. Two groups; Ivor (Sheff) & The Ibids & King Curtis & The Nobel Knights make up the King Sound Interpreters. Mostly from Charleston High School, West Virginia. Two of the female (lead) vocals on 'You've Got Soul' are Linda Davis & Joyce Laurie of Lower Donally Hollow. They are two of an original four female vocalists 'backed up' by the 'band'. The KSI manager was Bill Cain. King Curtis & The Interpreters would often back up James & Bobby Purify, and The Tams & The Tips...hence 'Hi Note' credit. That same year May 1967 three West Virginia bands tied for 1st Place in a contest sponsored by Vox (amplifiers, etc) for the chance to win a movie contract with American International Films. The three joint winners recordings were made and sent to Hollywood, California. The bands were The King Curtis Caravan of Stars (Charleston), The Majestics (Charleston), and The Explosive Dynamiks (Huntington). An 'unfound' (I think) record by The King Sound Interpreters may exist called 'I Can Be Happy' but i've never tracked it down...unless it became a later reincarnation (1970) by Don & Debbie on the AMOS label? a fancyful idea i know! The King Sound Interpreters line up;Curtis Price lead guitar,Ivor Sheff organ,Morris Hambleton sax, Billy Hambleton Trombone, Steve White trumpet,Roger Ledbetter drummer,Kai Haynes bass guitar.
  19. Spent my birthday 29 Aug looking towards Messonghi, Corfu
  20. I don’t agree with those that say No Motown - No Northern. There was plenty of label action that would have taken us there. and in general it’s Coke or Pepsi / McDonald’s or Burger King.
  21. Today, I saw Little Ron & The Esquires up for sale on Steve's site and popped on Discogs to check some discography stuff. Discogs has other Charade label artists listed (discogs: label connected with Ray Baradat (Raymond A. Baradat) saxophonist of The Charades ). Well...that (connection) might be (but i seriously doubt it). Little Ron & Esquires Charade label of 1963 was the first AND ONLY Release on the label until 1987. We all know Discogs can be so wrong...but equallly very useful (so no attack on it/them/contributors) and I wouldn't normally bother...but i was there.
  22. Northern Soul Connections #29 - Murphys Law - The latest in this long running series of soul connected connections from Ken B aks @Kenb Murphy's Law: "Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong" Roscoe Murphy Jr was 34 years old when he ran Mel's Record shop at 2130 S. 7th, which as it happens was destroyed by faulty electrical wiring and eventual fire in Jan 1973. The record shop and apartments were owned by Paul, Sylvan & Stephen Gross. Well known around Philadelphia as rack jobbers & cut outs guys, trading as Serve-Rite Record & Tape Co, World of Music, Time Associates and others. Yhprum's Law: "Everything that can work, might work" - Yhprum is Murphy spelled in reverse. The 'Murphy's' put out some diverse material and left an interesting if muddled legacy. Let's start with a resume of what's on some of the labels..... Northern Soul Connection #29 ( click twice for best view) Site info - You can check out Kens other quality 28 Northern Connections all available via his 'activity' profile page, the link follows below... https://www.soul-source.co.uk/profile/37754-kenb/content/?type=cms_records5&change_section=1
