  1. Sounds like Aaron Frazer "Easy To Love" speeded up
  2. I commented on the YT clip thinking it sounded like Dean Parrish. Whoever it is, it's mega!
  3. Thanks for that. All the memories came flooding back and he played a good selection too. I met Nick a few times at Warrington Carlton club. He was the first DJ I heard play Terry Callier Look at me now. I went running up to him from the bar to see what label it was on. I also met him at Sutton Con Club the venue he mentions in the show. I can even remember a few tunes from that night Frankie and Johnny and that Lesley Gore thing.....I know we are in love????. Never heard of him or seen him since Wigan.
  4. A few more for your list:- The PRT/Nightmare album The Motor Town Sounds of Detroit has extensive sleeve notes by author Sharon Davis. The album has lots of Levine credited songs on it. I need a magnifying glass to read them on mine lol. A couple of my Sounds Superb albums the ones with unissued Motown tracks also have extensive sleeve notes The Supremes "Baby Love and Stevie Wonder's "Uptight" but no indication who wrote the notes. If it's your bag (modern) the Soul Togetherness albums too. Richard's write up on the back of the 2004 album cover being another in-depth write up. I've just grabbed this one out too Soul Supply's late 80's The Northern Soul Story double album Vol 5. Not great sound quality but in-depth sleeve notes. There is lots of these with rare tracks on.
  5. That's the one. There is a similar Goldmine one called This is Northern Soul GSCD14 with different tracks and a small Tim Brown write up. For me the Kent CD's take some beating for sleeve notes like Wishes, LA Happening and Old Town and Barry Souls Stirrers. The Joe Boy mini CD five tracks leading with Dearly Beloved and ending with Johnny Maestro. Also has an good write up presented by Ginger.
  6. The ABC Out On The Streets Again was my first album that had out and out Northern Soul on it as oppose to Motown. Other than the ones already mentioned wasn't there a Record Collector album with notes from Kev Roberts? I seem to recall there was a Pie International album too with Scepter/Wand stuff that had sleeve notes?
  7. There was an article in RC many years ago 90's I think about the Oak label. I dont think I kept that one, sorry. The only memorable part of it I recall was lot's of the stock (singles) ended up in a skip outside either the studio or pressing plant.
  8. The Construction, Frank Beverly ITWYW, Blanche Carter, The Jades though is my number one
  9. How good were the versions of The Drifter and You're Gonna Love My Baby! Absolutely outstanding......Fabulous.
  10. If that's Hesketh Meadow Lane Lowton? It was a fabulous venue across the board a room for every taste. Saw my legend there singing "You Just Cant Walk Away" what a night. Dont remember Brico tho but then again I wouldnt would I ?
  11. That pretty much sums my curent status. Except I only sold about 50 or so singles in the early noughties and still have a collection. As far as playing them I usually play my 12inch jazz funk/ or digital now at home. Always on the look out for things Ive not heard before on line from 60's to now. I dont miss buying 45's at all it was way to stressful Lol.
  12. Yep, works great getting all the north west venues. Nice one really good tbh.
  13. I saw this posted on FB this morning and I was shocked and saddened to hear about his passing. R.I.P Steve. Top guy in Mr M's and he really knew what we wanted to dance to. Another legend lost so sad.
  14. washlively replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Sad news indeed. "Come By Here" was one of the the first Soul albums I bought that wasn't either Motown or a Various artsist's LP. Picked up at the Shell Garage on Haydock Island in the 70's with the corner cut off. R.I.P Inez.
  15. Sorry I don't remember it, however my sister who is older went to "The Compass Club" when we went down there on holiday mid 70's for a few years
  16. Facinating listening to those guys talking about the 3 track upgraded to 8 track in 64 and all the issues they head with the recording heads and echo chambers. Cheers for that.
  17. Leon Haywood version too on Decca
  18. Thanks anyway. Back then to hear any type of Northern on the radio was a real novelty. I think thats why I remeber him on Terrys show so well. Plus he was a really nice guy and so enthusuastic.
  19. Fanstatic stuff. I sent a few requests in to Nick fairly sure he played Burning Bush for me one night and possibly patti and the emblems. Thanks for digging that out but I must ask "Can I have some more" ? Please.
  20. Thanks for that I didnt know he was from Stoke. I saw him dj a few times in the north west one club in St Helens where he played frankie and johnny when it was huge and also at the Carlton Warrington. Don't know what happend to him after that. I dont recall seeing him at Saints Club St Helens in the 90's. I enjoyed chatting to him as he was always after 60's newies to play when the scene really needed it before Stafford came along.
  21. First time I heard anything by Terry Callier was around 78/79 when a guy called Nick Cowan played "Look at me now" at the Carlton Club in Warrington. It had such an impact on me I found one within a couple of months. Nick was a guest on Terry Lanaines BBC Radio Merseyside's Keep On Trucking show and did a few local clubs back then never heard of him since.
  22. Possibly the Horseshoe or Water Wheel but that was under a huge block of flats.
  23. It was indeed a great night I was pushed right up to the stage by the crowd and she bent down to shake hands with me and few others. I seem to recall she started off with "Forget Me Not" then later eveyone was shouting One Way Out and as mentioned above she did it accapello with the crowd joining in.
  24. Good question but you could ask the same for thousands of Vloggers.
  25. Really enjoyed it Tony. Some fabulous stories too looking forward to the next one.
