New Releases - Spring 2019
Just spotted this. Only became aware of this version recently and I think its even better than Bottom & Co. Maybe of interest to people like me for whom an original is a crazy dream... https://acidjazz.bigcartel.com/product/patterson-twins-gonna-find-a-true-love-7

Universal fire details coming to light after 11 years ...
Quite. The article I posted also explains why digital copies are no good. This is like saying, 'Its okay The Louvre burnt down, we took pics.'🙄

Universal fire details coming to light after 11 years ...
The New York Times article that broke this story is a great read and raises wider, and worrying, questions about the attitude of the corporate owners of recorded music's attitude to their archives... https://www.nytimes.com/2019/06/11/magazine/universal-fire-master-recordings.html

Mel Torme LP question
Dunno. I bought this LP on Columbia myself when very young and got caught out thinking it would have the original recording of, 'Comin' Home Baby' on it only to find it was a later, inferior remake on the LP. So maybe they were still trying to somehow cash in on the hit version of that (with Right Now on b-side) a few years later? There was already been an LP called 'Comin' Home Baby' on Atlantic so that was taken....(he speculated) Michael - 'Power of Love' is originally 7" only, I believe, not on this LP. Also had this coincidentally on UK around the same but never really rated it. The other side of that by Mel ('Dominique's Discotheque') is almost as lame as it sounds but there's a very decent indeed 'northern' version of it on one of Sarah Vaughan's LP's. Ramble, ramble...😀

New Releases - Spring 2019
Hope this is the right place for this. Gil Scott Heron with his original college band Black & Blues (although I think I'm right in saying these were recorded during or just after the 'Pieces of a Man' sessions). These have been out as bonus tracks on a CD of 'Pieces' for a couple years but brand new on 7" thanks to Ace. Both sides superb. I doubt a better 7 will come along this year!

Dr John / Mac Rebennack RIP
Passed. Sad news. One of the last of the greats in my book. Loved all his stuff but here's a few with Soul Source appeal. He must have played on and written loads though... (These first two are his partner, the unsung Ronnie Barron on vocals and I think came out under his name on 7). Talk about an oldie!

Male / Female variants
Hmmm..pretty much a jobbing UK arranger with no notable hits to his name. Can't see why he'd get the call from New York, tbh!😁 https://www.discogs.com/artist/335594-Harry-Roberts?filter_anv=0&subtype=Writing-Arrangement&type=Credits

News: Mary Wells - (Artist Of The Week)
Got, 'Stop Taking Me for Granted' / 'Ain't it the Truth' on New Zealand 20th Century. Beautiful looking object (but I am not messing about taking pics at this time of night)! https://www.45cat.com/record/tk787 Had bad luck with the Bobby Womack one on Reprise (....pressing faults? Did a thread on here not long ago).

Carol Anderson....What Happened ?
Personally, I feel it is not really relevant. If there is some story of wider interest that will bring her records to wider attention then go for it. Otherwise it sounds like an intrusive and pointless project.

Male / Female variants
Is it? Harry Roberts, who produced it was a UK producer / arranger. At the time it came out, Tony Orlando was Vice President of CBS Music. He did cut a few US hits under pseudonyms around this time but I can't see why he'd nip over to the UK to do this one...

Carol Anderson....What Happened ?
Why do we need to know what happened in her family? Feels rather creepy and intrusive and nothing to do with us.

Male / Female variants
I've just realised. This sounds exactly like Des O'Connor singing. Could it be...?😂
