Look at that Wigan Casino book Kickstarter didn't get anywhere close.

News: The Truth About Northern Soul by Stephen Riley Review
I would have thought that it's fair enough to review actually published books on here critically, although there's also a higher than average chance the author may join in or take offence. Not read that particular one but have read 4 other self-published books on NS. All to greater or less extent suffer from the faults that all books without a publisher do - lack of proofreading, mistakes, typos, historical innacuracies, lack of research. Two were pretty good though with some nice writing and interesting personal insights; one was not.

It was Kindle only until recently, the paperback has just come out but at 160 pages £9.99 seems a bit steep to me.

Mike Hollis had a load stolen about a year ago too and, apart from Pep, there was another one last year, cant remember who. Seems like someone may be targeting? Would anyone consider using smartwater, just a thought?

BBC 1 Omnibus 1978 Northern Soul Clip
It's in the Sarah Raine book - I'll dig it out. Tony Palmer said he rang Granada up and they sold him the footage. I think the youtube outtakes predate this? Certainly Tony Palmer didn't post them there. The point is that TP has the original footage so if there is anything unreleased he has it.

BBC 1 Omnibus 1978 Northern Soul Clip
Palmer said somewhere that he bought all of the footage off Granada just before the DVD release, so he has it all.

BBC 1 Inside Out - Wigan Casino Segment 10 Feb 2020
Yep, but it was only the trailer bit, they may get a bit more adventurous when the main segment comes on?!

You have to have BBC1 HD, nationally that shows the North West version. I've got it in Birmingham. Not promising yet though - guess which song they played?!?!

Northern Soul Pool Party??
Guess so, I believe he's only been DJing for about 25 years.
-
Northern Soul Pool Party??
Definitely seen that, probably 3 or 4 times in the last few months. One particular DJ I won't name - arrived 10 minutes before, left 15 minutes after.
-
Northern Soul Pool Party??
I always found Slipknot a tad too commercial for my taste, went to see Agnostic Front a few months back though. Interesting moshpit - mix of 14-18 year old kids (skinny, fast) and 50-60 year old blokes (average 20 stone) all circle dancing. If one of the latter had fallen on one of the former!!

BBC 1 Inside Out - Wigan Casino Segment 10 Feb 2020
Notice they actually say "one of the last" in Richard's post although the potential book is called "Last Night", so how many "last" nights were there??
-
BBC 1 Inside Out - Wigan Casino Segment 10 Feb 2020
I think it's a segment on that Inside Out programme, here it seems to be called "Inside Out West Midlands", I think they add a few local stories. This is from Richard Searling's Facebook.

What Do You Think About The Upright Bass?
"Fender bass" was used as a shorthand for electric bass in some circles though. Can't remember where, it was probably on some Jazz LPs Prestige or Impulse which credited some group as piano, drums, sax, Fender bass.

VAT issue
I can't see them paying wrongly charged VAT to a consumer outside the EU.
-
VAT issue
Yes, it would be fraud to put a VAT number on there if you weren't registered so they must be. The word "reclaimable" is confusing, you (as a consumer) can't reclaim VAT, only another trader who is also VAT registered can reclaim VAT so that is not relevant. VAT registered companies can "zero rate" goods or services in certain circumstances - selling to consumers in non-EU countries, certain exempt items, selling services to disabled people etc. But maybe their website isn't set up to take this into account? Lots of companies selling goods to consumers such as shops don't give prices without VAT they just add it automatically although they have to show it on receipts/invoices.
-
VAT issue
If a UK trader is VAT registered (and not all sellers will be because they have to turnover £85,000 before they are obliged to register) and they are selling goods to a consumer in a non-EU country they should zero rate the VAT rather than charging 20%. They will need proof that the goods are leaving the EU. So check that they are VAT registered first (if not then there will be no VAT on it anyway) and that they have added 20% VAT (it's not always itemised) if so you should contact them and try and explain why they should zero rate it. They won't be keeping it for themselves, that would be clear VAT fraud, they would be paying it to HMRC but they certainly wouldn't give you (a third party in a non-EU country) a refund they would just refer you back to the seller whose responsibility it is to sort it out.

The Greatest Dancer
Tony Palmer bought all the This England footage off Granada when he put it out on DVD in 2010 so he has all of that. Anyone got the DVD? Are there any extras or is it just the film as shown? Could there be stuff he didn't include? https://www.theguardian.com/music/2010/apr/15/the-wigan-casino-tony-palmer

The Greatest Dancer
Give him his due he's got confidence levels of 1000%; dancing on his own in a brightly lit studio and in front of an audience. Not many could do that! Surround him with 20 good dancers it'd look pretty damn impressive.
