  1. Just looked at mine. Nashville stamp and on B 97699 scratched out and 97700 in. Which one is that then ? Sounds kinda like what I remember it sounded like ! What's difference with the other one ? ROD
  2. Have an issue. Doubt it's any rarer than demo. ROD
  3. Steve makes a good point. Maybe something constructive or move on to next topic. ROD
  4. Click on link Scroll down to Track Listings. Click on See all items "Needle in a haystack" FFS ! ROD
  5. I bought the other two. This has no interest for me as have the 45s. ROD
  6. Actually I have a vague memory of "Be cool..." played at Torch at least once. Same time span "Only your love can save me" Marvelettes was spun off the album and maybe R. Dean Taylor. ROD
  7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAu5eF56pmA Album only. This and a cheap MFP sounds Superb comp which IMO is probably harder to find than original album

Yes but rules are important. Breaking the "no stilettos" on the dance floor is just the thin end of the wedge. And what about that time Butch fell in a handbag and couldn't clamber out. Tim Ashibende had to reach in and pull him out. ROD
  9. Brian, I'd agree with most of that especially that Im familiar with from '69 onward when I got into the music. I'd kinda disagree with the "left on the shelves" bit. Those Minty 45s in junk shops etc must have come from somewhere so Im guessing unsold at the time. And living in London from Sept '72 to March '73 I did find 45s in established record shops. Even in Manchester ! That shop up in Cheetham Hill on left if going to Bury near where crossroads to Middleton. Alexander Patten, Incredibles, Garnet Mimms. and a few I've forgotten. He had moved them into the basement though. Think I sold Barry one of those at Pendulem. ROD

  11. To be fair this auction phenomena happens far more widely on EBay where 45s [in any condition] attract really high bids. Having examined factors such as rarity, demand, bidder location, socio-economic groupings and ad formatting, the graph I drew up has led me to conclude that the answer is morons. ROD
  12. I didn't know there were reserves on John's auctions. And if that were the case you wouldn't know if any 45 was actually sold. However auction does say item "already been won" and gives winning bid ? ROD
  13. But Barry I had all that Atlantic, Stax and some Motown/early NS stuff by '68 having heard some on a juke box locally when I was 14 in '67. It was only in 68 [was it?] when I heard "Right Track" and "Nothing can stop me" on Soul City release that I realised there was an entirely different sound. The Otis, Wilson, Joe, Carla etc were in the bin by '69. I guess mods bought the former stuff but it certainly isn't the NS sound. More youth club 45s. ROD
  14. I'd be interested to hear Brian Phillips take on Db121's post. Mid 60's ? Weren't most of those 45s from late '68 to '71 and a couple after that [Torch]. Living in Manchester mods had fizzled out up here by '68/'69 IMO and it was more a skinhead look in '69. You also can't give credit to mods as a whole when looking at Manchester. UK soul collectors round there were turning up 45s in that vein at that time. Dave Slater, Dave Hall, Dave Stubbs, and Steve Vickers [just to prove you didn't have to be called Dave] and no doubt others I didn't know. Brian was doing his import list. Not sure when he started but I may have seen it around 1970/71. As for mods buying rare soul surely it was new releases ? And judging from what was available to be picked up on UK release in those early years of NS it's evident plenty of stuff went unsold. ROD

  18. I think that's probably somewhat erroneous. Richard was always into and buying new stuff as far back as 1972 when I met him. He wasn't solely a Northern guy. The era you're talking about in the early 90's I think a lot of the tracks played filtered up from London. Note the similarity of the TOP to 2-step. If Dean sees this thread he can add his thoughts. In Manchester at the time there were a lot of guys into that contempory sound. Mike Stevens was influential as a dj. ROD
  19. It should have a stamp in run-out groove saying "Bell Sound" not P.B. Also if original it's condition will affect value. Just seen Patto mentioned this. ROD
  20. What about the inflated value and £20 charges. How did that come about ? ROD
  21. 7pm next Tuesday but don't come before then.
  22. Before we get too hung up on dance lessons it's not exactly confined to this scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNACcfLRABk Loads of these videos on YT. See also shag lessons. ROD
  23. Yes this should really be in LAYB ! You are familiar with that "glass houses" adage, Nev ? ROD [Forum Moderator]
