  1. first issue came out in late 74 so no blue pye by about 12 months also it says 1974 on the pye copy......not that i have one dave
  2. heyup malc it made no 65 on the us pop charts and is pretty common in the states. I bought a half decent issue for 99cents although i would like to add that a white demo would be nifty and the uk copy is probably one of the harder red atlantics though not mega money the flip side ` if this is love ' is actually good underated northern dave
  3. hi all. firstly i would like to say all the best for 2008 to everyone on this site. happy new year right then. tips from the back of my box. I noticed brief encounters what about love made an appearance twice on last years list and i played it at the friendship the other night so heres five that im going to play more this year given half a chance.......... 1 original drifters - just let your heart be your guide - sounds south 2 modern image - gypsy - philly 76 3 tripplet twins - gonna change - magic touch 4 the chaumonts - when you love someone - baysound (use to play it b4 and i`ll play it again) 5 basic black and pearl - making of love - wam some oddball sounds but i love em dave
  4. hi all clem did a fantastic version of " i dont care what people say" on emi in 1974 original version of the carl douglas lp track played recently. althoughin my experience its fairly hard to get. cant say id heard the clem and the foundations tune til john auctioned it. dave
  5. must be my taste in soul tho and i can never get past mediocre in my opinion of this tune if i had £1000 to spend there is 1000 records i would buy before this.......average at best rarity b4 quality. dp 1 of 2
  6. just had a quick look. this guy probably woundnt know a soul record if you hit him round the head with it. a bad situation to be in if you sell records dave
  7. it made no32 0n the national r&b charts and bubbled under the hot 100 pop charts. thats why theres lots of issues green and yellow kickin about. from my experience in the 80s and 90s there were boxes of the green ones turned up and e few yellow ones tho i never saw these in multiples. i do think the white demo is a nice piece tho dave
  8. as we all know on the soul scene. A lot of records might not be that rare but its the quality of the tune and the demand that creates the price tags. maybe this guy doesnt like soul or has made enough mistakes to be very bitter about it all. every genre seems to have collectors dedicated enough to get their hands in their pockets for records that are maybe not as rare as some people think. you only have to go on popsike and look at the pistols god save the queen on a&m and theres been a few on but it always goes for a stack o money dave
  9. not for a tenner tho . seriously have these just been done.i didnt know it had been booted dave
  10. dont know about the rare stamps lp coz i never had it. but i had the holidays on groove city and jj barnes on uk stax and they are exactly the same recording.........yep yep yep dave
  11. ive certainly heard dr love, i get carried away and i cant break the news out and about by him. even spun dr love myself a few times................ nowt wrong wi jones the groans dave
  12. I have jimmy helms romeo and juliet on brazilian pye, sharon paige new to you on abc & thelma houston dont pity me on motown. I cant do pictures but if i can find someone that can i`ll put them up dave
  13. came out on a uk gto 7in. cheap as chips dave
  14. as brian said, the canadian copy is ours bought off the bay a year ago.i thought it was a bargain but judging by the recent ebay sale the demo seems to be £450 dave
  15. $20 on a12in i presume? dave
  16. definately a white demo not a yellow one dave
  17. im sure in the 80`s and 90`s the white king demo was owned by gary spencer who sold it to tim brown via andy dyson. thought they did the deal at the welfare hall at goldthorpe along with don gardner cairos etc. thought i witnessed it but i might have had too much sauce. sure this hapened in the mid 90`s anybody confirm dave
  18. thort the 12in was more readily available. i had quite a few chances to buy it but i thought id hold out for a 7. as i said earlier im glad i got it then coz i would make do with a 12 if i hadnt got one. am i right in saying that the long and short versions on the 7 &12 are the same? dave
  19. im sure john manship had it a couple of weeks ago for either £100 or £125. i know he`d had it a while but ive just tried to find it and i cant so perhaps demand has risen a bit. great record anyway and on the short side i dont think the intro is that long. had a 7in of this for 5 or 6 years now and judging by this thread im glad i bort it when i did dave
  20. im sure kenny burrell has one and alan senior used to have it might be the same copy? best dave
  21. hi all ive had a german philly white demo and a french philly issue they have the same b side but different catalogue numbers it seems the german one came out in may 75 but the french one not til july 76. dont know why that is so on the strength of it i kept the german one and sold the french copy to a mate on here for £15 dave
  22. yes the lp says melba montgomery but its certainly is her on the cover well spotted joe dave
  23. if it were played as much as party time man would people still have the same opinion of it ............ i think not dave
