  1. Not to mention the Japanese release too...45 and LP.
  2. Ted, I wouldn't lose sleep over it, if I was you. 'Hey boy' isn't a strong track at all and goes nowhere...not worthy of spins at all...imo. Easy to spot (apart from the different cat' #'s) as the copies with 'Deep' written across the bottom are the ones with it on the flip, rather than the ones with 'Deep' (in italics) across the top. The takes of 'You said' are indeed different as already noted...not a lot in it, but yes I prefer the one with 'Hey boy' on the flip...so maybe worth getting that number after all!
  3. Riding in on this one, if that is cool...I have a French copy up for grabs! Needless to say it is RARE...on a red Columbia label complete with original factory sleeve, both in excellent condition. Open to offers...not looking for mega bucks!

I also prefer the Wand 45 to this one...and also to Chuck's 'Hand it over', when compared to the Kent comp'ed versions...though t'was interesting to hear different takes on such classics for sure. Therefore I for one, am not complaining! (Wonder if the instrumental of LMGYML was also in the can?)

Tail-end of the 70's / early 80's this was covered up as 'Little Joe Roman - My life with you' and was a Gary Rushbrooke Casino spin...that's where I first heard it anyway.
  6. A very average cover of the Timi Yuro track. I hope you didn't pay much?! Not a keeper...imo.
  7. I worked for Charly Records when these were released...indeed I actually compiled the CD in question and sneaked a few tracks onto it that had evaded the LP releases. The source for these comps wasn't actually Japanese releases. One of the Charly guys (and dare I say the world's #1 expert on James Brown), Cliff White, actually went over to the Broadway Studios (ex Quinvy), met up with Quin Ivy himself and took DAT recordings from the original master tapes. Northern fans (and I know there's a few of you on here!) please note the take we used for Don Varner's 'Tearstained face' is different to the released 45...check out the brass for starters! But did Quin have any 45's left, I hear you cry...yes a few pieces...and yes I got the copy of 'Tearstained face'. How did the LPs originally sell...as others have pointed out, not really that well, and indeed the CD didn't fair well at all...dreadful sleeve didn't help at the point of selling in! I still see copies of the LP's over here in Japan, oddly enough...always brings a smile to my face.
  8. Good question - that's the only one of the sample video that I'm not 100% on exactly who they are. Anyone confirm the members?
  9. Still in his set...he played it at a doo over here in Tokyo on Saturday! Must admit, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as I remembered. (He also played the Invitations - Skiing in the snow...I'm sure some of you will be pleased to learn!? )
  10. You did indeed, thank you Tony, is your acetate the same version as the one Pete has posted up?
  11. Have a rather nice UK Jay Boy demo (nice big red 'A') of the Clay Hammond on my sales pages at a mere £!5, and a US Keyman copy at £10. Also, a luvely rare demo copy of the Dells at £75. PM me if of use.
  12. Yes, the single-sided copies 100% exist. As I recall, it was ZTSC stamped, not scratched and the blank side had a plain white label and an audio tone. Sorry no scan, as I decided to stick with my double-sided copy and didn't go for the single-sided one I was inspecting. Besides, the guy wanted too much (at the time!) for it. Of course, the question now is which press was used as the radio promo and which one was used for the phone-in competition give-away copies?! Naturally, this post is made with advance apologies to the Ric-Tic label collectors out there, who didn't know that there were two 109X presses, and therefore now have another label variant that they have to track down in order to complete the run!
  13. For reference, the pressing plant with the raised 'X' and glue-problem was called, Shelley Products Ltd, out of Long Island. There's a few more details about them (and many other pressing plants, including how to date your records) within the page devoted to US Pressing Plants on my site...quite interesting, though I say it myself! >>> CLICK HERE TO READ <<<
  14. Careful, the Mainstream WD's don't feature the, 'In school' side. Superb record as we all seem to agree on.
  15. Sorry, should've added the two tracks that I really like/rate are, 'Take a chance' and 'Come home girl'...quality midtempo tunes.
  16. Mr.Wood seems to have been popular over here in Japan too...on checking the shelves I have five 7" and an LP all of his Double Shot recordings on Japanese presses...the LP features a few corking tracks that (sadly) never came out on 45's.

  19. Still have a spare demo in nice condition...£250+P&P.
  20. Judy Clay TBMM always reminds me of the Yate All-nighters...stomp stomp stomp! I've a spare WD in excellent condition (HTKOG on the flip)...£25 inc. courier service to you doorstep.
  21. Glad you enjoyed it, Andy! Always turned heads and got chins scratched on the occasions I've played it out.
  22. Can get you a 12" copy, if that is of use Mark?
