  1. Not wishing to hijack this excellent feature, but there used to be a very vibrant Northern soul scene in North Wales , Colwyn Bay Pier Alnighters, and Aldayers with Brian Rae back in the park again in Colwyn bay , even saw Wayne Fontana in Rhyl with a good traveling crowd from Wolverhampton and Blackpool , and that's just the ones I can remember . Used to have a great traveling crowd too , stopping off at Crewe , then last train to the Casino , found many a great tune in the local charity shop .
  2. Kim Weston , Leicester Starlight 2001 alnighters during the period when Brenda Holloway,Reconsider, was first played amongst other Motown finds ,played on white label promo I found at the record fair at the NEC for £25,and then sold later at Tony's in Blackburn for £45 in the record bar, must have been very late 80s early 90s , sold up 92/93 to pay for house refurb.
  3. Can't remember the date but must have been early 00s Stuart Marconi had Richard Searling as a guest and I'm sure it was on Radio 2 , and accidentally played the whole of Keni Lewis with out interruption and I was recording the show by chance , Richard must have have given him bollocking off air lol, I ripped a couple onto cd and that was the only way I could get one , I'm sure not on legit release , I do now have the 45 by the way , if you want still want a copy on cd , pm me
  4. Hi Steve , have PMd
  5. This particular copy didn't describe reissue ,but the same boot sold on Thursday /Friday overnight for £8.50 and today a copy for sale £10. both listed as reissue, original issues for sale on discogs from £14. Why do people not do their homework, multiple copies and reasonably priced originals around , but do agree no problem with boots or reissues sometimes it's the only option
  6. There's also a boot of Walter Jackson on the same site up to £24. you can actually see the label has a photo copied drill hole for god's sake
  7. The "Helene Furgerson sounds like it was recorded in an outside loo and the French version an inside loo both stink lol , but what do I know
  8. Possibly something to do with the popularity of the writing team ,loved all over the world and covered by everybody
  9. I mentioned this subject to a mate at work , who is married to a Filipino lady ,and has visited many times and he reckons due to the US military presence lots of American influences , music being one of them , and also the music on the military bases etc .
  10. This deserves a much wider audience, would love to see a Detroit documentary on Sky arts / BBC / or movie absolutely brilliant cheers Rob
  11. This week is becoming a bit of a challenge, Met Hedley back in the 80s when I use to travel here there and everywhere and back again with Pete , and drop him off at his mum's in Ormskirk , right up to the early 90s when my children where born and had to be a father, always banter and lots of piss taking , but always interesting , RIP Hedley ,,,
  12. Why can the pre order not be sold on a promise to purchase, when in stock , send a notice to pay or no record , so far this year I've purchased 3 , still waiting for 2 , and the last one went on public sale before my copy arrived , and is still available,so was never any fear of missing out. I know of the issues in the record plants etc , but waiting sometimes up to 6 months , hope I get a chance to play them before my grand children ,,,
  13. Personally Andy ,had the cd album since its release , purchased more then and sent them to mates who all agreed at the time , great version, (still have it by the way) why has it not been released until now , Lou toured the UK , We saw him in Whitstable of all places so this version must have been out there , my point , most of our vinyl collectables 1960+ this one 2004 , 120 days or so more or possibly less cheers Andy
  14. Anyone got one for sale , PM please ,,
  15. If my memory serves me right C.J. was possibly played by my old friend Keith Minshull RIP ,if not first he got behind it and if that's not proof enough , Northern Soul, a long time ago 1980 ish , he had a good ear for a tune lol
  16. Thanks Purist , it's not something that hadn't crossed my mind , and only one person has said so far they bought a record from Max stamped from the shop, but no mention why. The guy I bought it from was a Cat's regular but couldn't remember when purchased or where , he had a huge collection of northern but only the one stamped but was very sentimental about letting it go , he was selling up to save his family the hassle " as he was getting on " his words not mine and I had it and a hundred or so other records all classics from the era ,too many to mention here ,but my question is did Max stamp any for punters in the shop for regulars or Cats followers maybe , the one I have is a post Cats release so maybe also one from " Millwards" but with the official Cats stamp. Anyway thanks for bringing this info , I hope there's more to come .
  17. Thanks Pep , I did wonder if the stamp was a " Pass Out " as was used at most venues . So it's looking more like a broken up private collection stamped and numbered possibly , after or during the life of the Cats , only the person responsible would know and we might never know , but there's at least 16 more out there ( possibly ) somewhere .
  18. Hi Rob h, very interesting response and another stamped record too ,does your Freddie Chevez have a number , could they possibly have been given away on the last night ? I got to know Max and have many mates over the years that frequently went , but no one ever mentioned stamps on records or even as some clubs did back of the hand in the early years . I do agree that the theory of the stamps being an identifier for records kept at the club is possible , a collective shared DJ box especially if space was tight ,pure guess work I might add .
  19. Cheers Ste ,have pm'd mate
  20. Not sure if this as been covered before ,but does anyone else have any , how many where there and for what reason where they stamped ? , I picked this one up on eBay and the guy who sold it didn't know either , wasn't very much money but albeit a reissue/bootleg a nice bit of nostalgia from the era .
  21. If all the freebies had been "promos" ,followed by a later Kent Select issue , I don't think anyone would have complained or begrudged Kent for discovering, and marketing such fantastic tunes over the years , and making them more accessible to collector's ,,,,
  22. You have to question why the need for promo's in what is a predominantly reissue market , unless a previously unreleased tune and pre-released to the media and djs only but as history as proved there seems to be a market for them , look at the prices of the early Grapevine demos and even some of the Disco Demands and again they where all known on release ,nuts.
