  1. There might be a premium for issues compared to demo's too...
  2. Baz, Do you mean James Brown's Brownstone? If so, in the back of the James Brown autobiography which came out in the late 80's there's a definitive discography by Cliff White. Which includes James Brown recordings and related releases on his labels such as Try Me, People & Brownstone, if that's the one your after.

I'll see if I can dig one out Might take a while

I think there are quite a few GJ sound clips in refosoul already...
  5. George Perkins had a couple releases on Golden. The local release of Crying In The Streets (#110) before being picked up by Silver Fox and my favourite release by him How Can A Broke Man Survive (#114) backed with Groove Making which is a funk thing. Les posted up "Broke Man" a little while ago...

Bob, Although cheapies the issue of Ain't No Sweat took a while for me to get. John The three singles courtesy of Mr Rimmer's Site Volt 4069 - Girl Come On Home / Since I Lost My Baby's Love - 1971 Volt 4079 - I Wanna Make Up / That's The Story Of My Life - 1972 Volt 4085 - Ain't No Sweat / Since I Lost My Baby's Love - 1972
  7. I was looking at a few things and surely if the seller only accepts paypal, thats good for buyers as it gives extra buyer protection if things go wrong?

All three Volt singles are fabulous and cheap too, you can't go wrong. Since I Lost My Baby's Love is my favourite of the five tunes.
  9. Look At The Boy / Back To You - 2297 Here I Go Again / I Love Him - 2314 Pour On The Loving / You Ask Me - 78515 Three singles and great examples of southern soul, easy to get on demo, tricky to get on issue. So, how hard is it to get an issue of Look At The Boy. How many of you have got it and what do you think is a fair price?
  10. Tommy, I am really sorry, I screwed up with the seller and I hope you can accept my apologies. That is the one I was thinking of. Again, sorry for misrepresenting you. John
  11. Guys, Am I missing something with the links, as when I load them, they are two different sellers. The Tony Daniels is sold by overpass60 which is the latest ebay name used by John Anderson (Soul Bowl) The Little John is by Chattahoochee3 .

I also don't remember it being listed on the Soul Bowl list but on Garry Capes list, maybe around 85/86. I do remember people phoning him over a period of time and still getting them, so possibly he may have had quite a stash, maybe Garry can confirm this? So how many are going to pop up in the sales section?

Like a lot of you I get mails form Anglo, but its the latest bid that has shocked me. Oct - H Earl White Jr Very Special Girl Cygnet 102 M- 1120 Our first copy in a decade or more, super soulful 1977 dancer out of Bossier City, Louisiana! I know this was discussed a while ago when it was sold on Manship for I think about £800 Has demand soared even more for this? Even though its got a dodgy ending........
  14. There was a recent Pvine CD of Twinight stuff, which has Nate Evans on it. Maybe its an alternate mix?
  15. Pete, Heres a quote from the HM Customs web site... 3.2 Is duty charged on used goods? Used goods are still liable to the same duty and VAT charges as if they were new. However, their value may vary depending on their age and condition. https://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/channelsPortalWebApp.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=pageTravel_ShowContent&id=HMCE_CL_000014&propertyType=document#P108_10657 It does suck though.
  16. Other than this one there were quite a few played. Sir-Prize - Never Can Find The Words Hotliners - Coldhearted Kooley - Count 2-3 Cheryl Hunter - Do It Right (although a 7") I also quite like Tommi Johnson - You For Me, although it wasn't earth shattering. Malik is a storming piece of 80's dance music. Apart from the small Boogie scene, I wonder if there is a place for them today. On hindsight over 20 years, IMO most don't stand the test of time.

Before it turns into another world war. What about asking Ady C/Tony R, with the amount of research they must have done over the years on Garland Green, there probably isn't anyone better to ask other than Garland Green himself. I thought I had virtually everything he'd done, but I may be wrong......
  18. Now thats the one I need to get...
  19. Manship auctioned one a while back, sure it was over £500 and I thought nearer to £700. Don't forget the flip - You Are The One for Me, nice dancer.
  20. It's a good double sider, I'm assuming that the black/white ones I've seen are demos, is that correct? If so did it get issued with a coloured label?

I remember years ago hearing that there were distribution problems as Alston was on its last legs, but David Hudson had releases either side of Charles Johnson, which are cheap as chips so that may put the kybosh on that theory. It could be due to David Hudson being the "Bigger Star" in the labels eyes that they put all their effort promoting him rather than Charles Johnson. I would have thought there were bucket loads of every Alston release. I really like the 12" of Lew Kirton better than the 7", its got an extra verse....

Thought it was an LP only, from the RCA LP Love Is What We Came Here For
  23. John Ridley has it as release 5038. https://www.sirshambling.com/artists/J/joe_simon.htm You could always contact him, I'm sure he'll be willing to help
  24. As people have said adding paypal fees is just another way of milking the last penny out of a sale and for me on a cheapie it doesn't bother me too much, but does it pain me on larger sale items. So if there are larger fees involved and the seller is in the UK, I'll send a cheque. I don't DJ so I've got time to wait; you just have to think about how long you wait for tunes from the states as it probably works out about the same time. The thing that really gets to me is the p*ss taking some sellers have of charging high prices for postage. I have no issues with rounding the cost up to the nearest pound, but when you get charged a fiver for postage and its in a second hand mailer and has a few stamps on it, now that really miff's me......
