  1. I was looking at this, not for Doctor Love, but the other side. It just went way above my limit before it finished. The other disc last year was a single sided "Doctor Love" by Jonathan Smith, but I turned it down from Sam a couple of months before It was passed to JM for auction - I think he was after a bit more than £250 at the time, but not much more, maybe £300. I would have paid a bit more than that to get "The Girl Next Door", but not four figures. Still love "The Girl Next Door" though. I presume this was Dave Thorleys, although there are a couple of other copies so maybe it was one of those. Cheers Mick
  2. Dave, Do you mean there are printed labels with the time as 2:27 ?, (the two youtube clips both showed different labels, but are both reading 2:41) If you mean the length of the Youtube clip itself, I suppose not many people whilst recording the song would wait for a fade out to resume, especially as it is quite a long period of silence before it starts again, and, lets face it, a pointless extension. (Pye must have thought this on their UK DDS release, and just ended after the first fade). I've often wondered why the record was produced this way in the US. I can only assume it was an accident that wasn't picked up until it was too late. Cheers Mick
  3. Nick, Excellent find, probably the only true myth to be busted (or legend to be confirmed, depending on you point ov view) this century. I know "excellent" is an understatement, but no doubt all the comments in this post can be read as echoed by me. - Except #197 What next, King Richard III's body in a Leicester car park ? Well done Nick Cheers Mick
  4. Not really, as every other London release from that period was the same with inverted number. Now if the number was the right way up, then alarms would be ringing. Cheers Mick
  5. Other way round Robb, ... Original - the Green is slightly lighter, but the giveaway is the text on the left hand side. The "P" in "Produced by" lines up with the middle of the "V" in "VO-003" Reissue - The Green is slightly darker, and for the same piece of text, ... The "P" in "Produced by" lines up with the middle of the "O" in "VO-003" Cheers Mick
  6. That's just reminded me, as a private seller, do we still get 100 free per month at 99p ?
  7. Not just similar Steve, the very same set.
  8. Yes, there is a clip of all four songs, here's the link direct ... https://192.185.225.173/~funkyou/2070s.mp3 Cheers Mick
  9. Agreed, it's just too expensive to upgrade. In my case the basic fee would be 35p a listing if I chose to go past 20 a month, so pay more for international exposure is not anything I would consider. Yes, you can search from anywhere for anything, but once someone gets to one of your items, it's the difference between this ... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201102890513 ... and this ... https://www.ebay.com/itm/201102890513 Same item, and on the face of it, no difference, but in each case, click "see other items" and the differing results chould speak for themselves. This is what I meant by lack of exposure. Cheers Mick

I've often wondered that. It applies to nearly all the classics. Alexander Patton, Rufus Lumley, Shane Martin, most of the UK Tamla Motown label releases of records that were also released in the US, and tons more. Even some UK second issues like Darrell Banks on 70's Stateside are more prized than US Revilot originals. Maybe they are simply rarer in general, although that is probably a too general statement. Maybe it originates from the original sixties UK based collectors, when US imports were very few and far between, and the first time these were heard by any Soul collector was as a new or newish UK release, and the prestige has just grown from there. Just thoughts, not facts. Cheers Mick
  11. Some of it may be down to exposure, or lack of. This applies to items listed on the UK site, but if you pay the extra fee for international listings, you may get more hits than if you just go for the basic listing, which is not visible though anything but ".co.uk" (international buyers can search for an item worldwide, but once they get to your listing through ".com" and hit "more from this seller" or whatever it's called these days, they won't find anything.
  12. This is the Numero Uno release in the 45 x 45 box set used (nearly) Identical labels, so it's very hard to tell, but it is just about possible to distinguish, just from the image. Original - the Green is slightly lighter, but the giveaway is the text on the left hand side. The "P" in "Produced by" lines up with the middle of the "V" in "VO-003" Reissue - The Green is slightly darker, and for the same piece of text, ... The "P" in "Produced by" lines up with the middle of the "O" in "VO-003" As the description doesn't say one way or another, it is safe to assume it is a Numero Uno copy (although NOT in its original sleeve, as that would be the Numero Uno sleeve) Cheers Mick
  13. The Mel Hayes Instrumental version is much longer on the first release than on the later Boogie Man / RCA releases, coming in at over 4 mins instead of the 3 min versions on the later releases. (In all cases the vocal version is the same, just over 4 mins) I have a Mel Hayes here ... https://northernsoulrecords.com/recordsoriginals.shtm ... about 3 / 4 of the way down the page. Cheers Mick
  14. This is tragic news, and my heart felt condolences go to his family who must be devastated. He will be dearly missed by those who knew him well, and those who only knew him on places like this forum. I hope you are at peace now Mick
  15. I picked up a red issue Sidras Theme in a "Reissues - £5 each or 3 for £10" box at Bretby in the mid 90's - (nearly) all the rest were boots. I had to pay £5.00 as I couldn't find another two records to justify spending another £5.00 ... Showed it to Pep and he went and had a look and came back to me with a Sandy Wynns / Touch Of Venus on black Champion, which I missed completely. Cheers Mick
  16. Dave, It's not Amazon who are producing it, they are just sellers. The blame in this case is Universal, and for the Beatles, EMI, who have done the dirty. Cheers Mick
  17. I think 1966, but would need to check to be sure
  18. Yes, I think you're right. I've just checked my old want lists expecting to see this and it wasn't there, so I must be thinking about something else. Cheers Mick
  19. It is quite rare on US though, as opposed to the European release (Gemany ?? / RCA ?? - something like that but probably neither) which turns up regularly at about £20 / £30.) Don't think I have ever seen a US copy. As to the price, as I have never seen it, I couldn't comment. Cheers Mick
  20. It was issued but withdrawn on UK Brunswick on the "Out Of Sight" soundtrack LP. That's as close to a sixties UK release as you will get. It has a slightly different version with a cold finish. The LP is readily available on US Decca, but quite rare over here on Brunswick, as only a handful of sleeveless copies escaped the pressing plant (much like the Len Barry Lp from the same company) No contemporary 45 exists on any UK label, just the mass of boots / reissues that would follow over the next 45/50 years. Cheers Mick

  23. Not really relevant to the original question, but thought I'd put this one up. ... and yes, "Why Girl" is on the flip. Cheers Mick
  24. Don't have it now, but I used to have a copy of the one without the catalog number, and it was the same layout both sides, with the big Not For Sale etc. I never realised until now that there was another variation with PR 1. Cheers Mick
  25. The silver text are the originals, but about halfway through the series Pye changed their design to black text (also on their main Pye label too). From that point on, all the DDS were black text, but as some of the earlier ones were then reissued, (Frankie & Classicals, Footsie, Velvets etc.) those fell in line with the all new black text design. I remember seeing those 79/80 grey labels, and I think Footsie was the only DDS that made it to a third release, therefore the only one to get a grey label. As before, the main label also used this grey colour, hence the Jupiter Beyond in the previous post. I think it was a very short lived design though. Cheers Mick
