  1. Except the "Girl Across The Street" was also an unissued version, with a very slightly different vocal take, so that means both sides were new releaes.
  2. For me, it would have to be with Dean Courtney when he recorded "I'll Always Need You" along with the 40 (or 4 ?) musicians laying down the backing track Cheers Mick
  3. I have a version with another verse for this somewhere - Can't much about it but I remember but it is along the lines of ... "We have to go back to our families, do the things we have to do" Must admit, I thought it was the Lou Curtan version with this extra verse, but must me wrong Cheers Mick
  4. Sort of - There was a vaudeville act of the 20's and 30's called H Vernon Watson who changed his name to Nosmo King after seeing a split "No smoking" sign on a door. Steve Jameson" undoubtedly used the Nosmo King name because of this, and the inspiration for Watson's name change somehow jumped 40 plus years and became incorrectly attributed to the "Pye Guy"
  5. This P Williams song seems as far removed from Velvet Hammer as William Bell. Must admit, I just don't hear anything similar, other than the tempo, (In the same way that "I Am Nothing" by Al Williams has the same tempo as "She Love You" by the Beatles - absolutely nothing in common other than this one aspect - just about) Is this why people have been putting threads up about an instrumental cover version of Pharrel Williams? - I didn't realise it was being associated with Velvet Hammer until I read this thread, and couldn't understand the point of those "cover" threads from a couple of weeks ago.
  6. John, Of the "two lines" design, the one with the time 2:35 are originals (as yours appears to be) The very similar boot has a time of 2:01 Cheers Mick
  7. There was a thread about this years ago, and I think the assumption at the time was that it was to be used for a live TV broadcast, and that the 78rpm cut was to give it the best chance of "not" jumping live on air.

  9. 54.66 = 54 Years and 8 Months (I did this on a Friday though. If "half" became "quarter" then you would be about right any day of the week)
  10. PM'd you re Nancy Ames
  11. The New Holidays is indeed a great version, but it couldn't be mistaken for a female, so is there another (female) version knocking about ?? I've never heard of one. Cheers Mick
  12. Ditto all that - When I received a "broken" Jon Ford demo a few years back, the seller claimed from the PO but never got the compensation. Lucky for me the seller gave me his own copy so I was quite fine, but of course the seller was then out of pocket. I did suggest at the time that there might be a case against the packaging company, as the mailer he used was designed for records, and if the PO wouldn't honour a claim against damage using said packaging then maybe that packaging isn't fit for the purpose. (Sort of like buying a smoke alarm that doesn't work and having your Insurance company tell you it was the wrong make.) Cheers Mick
  13. Rightly or wrongly, whenever I get them, I always sell the moulded vinyl issues as boots / ressiues. I know the guides says that they are original, but compared to the vinyl demo the audio reproduction is very much lower. Also the stamped matrix on the demo becomes an etched matrix on the issue. (Unless this was common practice for Laurie to stamp the matrix for the demos, and then etch the matrix for the issues.) Either way, original or not, simply because of the poor audio reproduction I am always glad to get shot of them. As I say, I list them as reissues to cover myself, so at the worst, someone has a bargain. Cheers Mick
  14. I've often wondered about Love and Brotherhood - Sugar Pie Honey on Chess. The only release that I know of was the early seventies, but was it something recorded in the sixties, at the same time as Whispers, Promatics, Fuller Brothers, and just never released, or was it a new recording in the seventies, singing over an older backing track. Datewise, there is almost nothing between their three releases on Chess. I wonder if anyone knows more about this. Cheers Mick
  15. It's the Instrumental (Sidra's Theme), that has "Blow Out The Candle" as the flip - yes, the issue would be red. Cheers Mick
  16. Hi Russell, Actually, just listening to the two clips above, the CD seems to be in a lower key, and the acetate in a higher key. Other than that I think whey are the same singer, and even the same recording, both sounding like the lead singer on "I Still Love You" by the Superlatives, which simply cannot be a coincidence (It may, of course be a comparison that has been considered before, or even confirmed / denied - can't check into that, but someone may know more about that). Could do with a hearing a clip of the vinyl "as released" version, see if this lines up with either of the above two. Yes, I also thought the "Renee White" tag was a mistake as it was a female name, or, as you say, just a typo on the name Rene. Shame it's not a physical CD album as the sleeve notes may have shed more light on this. I doubt if the CD Single would help. Cheers Mick
  17. I have a recording (mp3) of "The Poet" It's great mid tempo track. I've had it about 3 years now, doesn't sound like it was recorded from an acetate, also the file was marked "remix edit", suggesting proper tapes were available. Haven't checked, but it could have been something for a CD comp, or future release. Cheers Mick Update. Just checked and, as I suspected, in November 2011 it was released as a digital download CD Album with both 3:15 and 2:44 versions. The song, is credited to Renee White. I wonder if Renee White is Robby Lawson under a different name, as the voice sounds exactly the same. Here's a link to an Australian site with clips etc. Includes tracks by Superlatives, Dynamic Beltones etc. The other song you mentioned, "Love Ain't The Same Anymore", could be one of the other tracks on the CD Album. https://now.jbhifi.com.au/Album/1099_886788296275 This CD download is also available on Amazon, Itunes etc. It's also available as a CD Single (on eBay)- Might be just the one track, details are scarce. Quite expensive too at about £12 Mick
  18. This is the Volumes on UK Pama
  19. I'd say about £50 (at least that's what I do them for) Bit more if it's a demo. Cheers Mick
  20. No, just the yellow issues Cheers Mick
  21. As does the WD boot of Walter Jackson - Where Have All The Flowers Gone. I can't recall any boots that have been holed, but as Pete says he's seen some, they must out there. Although I know what the hole is for, why are they called "BB" holes - I'm sure it's obvious, but can't work it out. (it took me many years to find out what c/w and b/w actually stood for, probably as late as 1980 before it finally dawned on me, so I was simply years behind on that. A small digression, but I still haven't got a clue what "sic" means. Seen it a lot in listings etc. is it something to do with a sticker mark ? Cheers Mick
  22. Just seen a White Demo on USA very recently (John Manship or Pat Brady, someone like that) - Don't recall seeing one before, although they are probably out there. Cheers Mick
  23. Plus two different demos. One with A side (when you take a chance ...) and one as a reserviceable double B side (Can't Stop A Man ...)
  24. Can't seem to find any on You Tube - do you have a link ? Cheers Mick
  25. He means Boz Scaggs - obviously someone put out a gagging order out on him. Cheers Mick
