  1. Hated soul music, always thought it was James Brown stuff with loads of shouting and screaming and funky afro hair do's......then heard a mate playing Johnny Caswell 'you dont love me anymore' in his bedroom and was completely smitten with this 'Northern Soul' sound.... that was 28 years ago!!!! Been in love with the music ever since!
  2. 'If It Dont Fit, Dont Force It'
  3. Not true mate, some record pressing plants have their own stamp, smaller pressing plants don't have any and the log number is scratched in. I've got originals that have no stamp whatsoever, especially on the smaller independant labels.
  4. Not forgetting the other recent one on Grapevine....Detroit Magnificents 'Is This A Woman's Way' that uses Youngblood Smith's 'You Can Split' backing track....................... And the Chesterfields 'Think It Over' also on Grapevine, this one has the same backing as Yvonne Baker 'You Didn't Say A Word'. 2 absolutely wonderful previously unissued Northern Soul stormers!!! Get em' if you can find em' now.
  5. Look out for the UK re-issue of 'River Deep, Mountain High' on A&M, flip has a brilliant stomper 'Oh Baby! Things aint What They Used To Be'...not available on any other 45 even in the USA.

White, maybe, but still good enough for the TYMES (black group!!!!!!) to do a version on their 'People' L.P

Been thinking the same thing about an L.P collectors book.....anyone?...John Manship???
  8. And i've just bought the L.p on ebay for next to nothing! There's a few on there, well there was just before xmas. Cheap as chips and it's got another good dancer on too!
  9. The new issue of TTB is absolutely stonking Dave!! One of (if not THE) best N.Soul fanzines/magazines around! Full colour all the way through with stunning eye catching visuals! And very detailed articles. Can't wait for # 3. John
  10. oh yeah, forgot about that one...it's in my UK box too! Funny how RC missed it as it gets a mention in the 'Rough Guide To Soul' book.
  11. I got the book yesterday too! Interesting to note that there's only 1 Kent 6ts anniversary 45 (Carla Thomas). I have consequently e-mailed them with a few piccies of the other collectable (quite highly priced) 45s on this label.... Magicians, Lorraine Chandler, Sharon Scott....so expect a small bit in the next issue of RC.
  12. Soul Set....wow! Jammy git!
  13. Joyce Bond version too, Island 45 though.

Wouldn't have thought it was too expensive but i've only ever seen 1 copy for sale and that's the one I own!! Car Boot sale special, £1 about 10 years ago.
  15. Hesitations - moulded over label = boot. 100% Has to be styrene stick on label for ALL Kapp USA original 45s. (except maybe Canadian????)

If anyone's interested, Little Tommy - Baby Can't You See also came out on those re-issue l.ps from the (late 80's?) soul supply gang, The Northern Soul Story volume 16. Sleeve notes state that the record is from Richmond - a non r&b area..(their words).

Hey Chalky, perhaps the BMR stands for: BOOT MUSIC RE-ISSUE
  20. Soul-slider replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
'Just Crazy 'Bout You Baby' on BMR is a re-issue from the states didn't think it was a boot though. Having said that, the sound quality on this BMR release is awful! Sound quality on the 'Stardust' re-issue is great. Just a point, their release on MGM 'Watch Out Girl' came in 3 different modes: plain yellow d.j d.j with the cartoon lion (extremley rare) gold/blue issue
  21. I'll ask Al if he knew the Nomads/ Soul Set and get back to you ok. I'm working on getting an orange moon. What's the blue one 'Stubborn Kind of Fellow' like, I understand the flip is a worthy tune too?? Any good?
  22. Hi Mulf, Yes he knew the other Monzas, I have their 'Hey I Know You' but that's it of theirs, don't know the other 2 on Pacific. I'm gonna try for the Moon one on orange colour and I also want a copy of 'You Know You Turn Me On' which I heard off a CD by Baz and it's great. The book is out but I aint seen it available over here yet (might look on Amazon in a mo), problem with ordering it from the States is it's bloody heavy! postage will be crippling I bet. Johnny
