  1. on soundcloud there is an option to turn on and off the ability to download. I'm not sure about mixcloud though, and at least looking quickly at Steve's files couldn't find one.
  2. here's the follow-up. "power to the peep-hole"
  3. correction -- second biggest hit next to leroy
  4. I guess he does say "cavemen" also in the song though so it is funny that you posted even with that handle. You know that this was his biggest hit:
  5. I agree, a legend with roots that go back far and into many different scenes. I gotta say though, I laughed at someone with the handle "caveman" posting in this thread. You should change your user ID to Troglodyte.
  6. nice, will check it out soon. thanks for digging these up.
  7. congratulations, awesome website
  8. Mine's ok too, but it's very clean. My only point is that some records are rare, but do show up in worse condition so they are available. This one is only usable if it's clean. Sorry to not be clear, I wasn't trying to say that all copies are unusable.
  9. that seattle pure dynamite is crazy long -- just under 7 minutes. I thought it must be one of the longest soul 45s I've ever seen but I recently got a jim gilstrap 45 that had a short / long version and I swear it was over 7 1/2 minutes on the long side. Either way, with a long 45 it will be even rarer to have playable copies since they are pressed super low and you need a very clean copy, every tiny scratch will be really loud.
  10. I just "discovered" mp3s for the first time. The cd player in my car broke and I have an aux input and was like "I should get an mp3 player so I can listen to music". Then I was like "wait, my phone IS an mp3 player". All of a sudden I had several dozen rap LPs that I have on vinyl from the 90s on my phone and it took like 10 minutes. Someone who listens to my show asked me what my spotify account was and I was like "what?" She laughed at me in response.
  11. i think he was saying that if you sold him some good records that they aren't "unknowns"
  12. ok, this is one that isn't like rising in price or anything (so nothing will happen with it in 2012) but I like to play this one when I DJ, it's a million times better than the three prophets 45 ... I also couldn't find youtube video unfortunately, but it's billy scott and the prophets on 3P "So glad you happened to me".
  13. also, sorry for ruining your thread
  14. yeah, this is an example of what I was talking about before actually. I have the sock-it release and have been playing it forever. But I don't really have influence over what takes off in the scene, there is some sort of dynamic between DJs, dancers, collectors, etc. that makes stuff take off or not. I kept losing the 77 release for like $50 on ebay (I was just bidding to collect it on the other label). Then it shot up and now I can't get it for close to that. I bought one off sales on here recently but I traded it for another record I needed since I already had it on sock it.
  15. I think the harmonics on sock it / seventy seven is slowly picking up now, at least from the sales I've seen.
  16. I actually was going to post this but couldn't find a youtube clip of it. p.s. I seem to be very good at killing soul source threads for some reason
  17. does nobody have a sense of humor here? i apologize for posting non-recommendations in this thread. here is a recommendation in the spirit of this thread:
  18. also, that sugar boy and shades of black record is nice, i heard a clip of it once before but never heard enough of it to get into it. one more thing on my wants list.
  19. You should have a sense of humor about it, I know a bunch of cases in the thread where people are posting records they recently got, which they are excited about (often because they are good). Of course they also want it to go up in value. That doesn't mean they will though. Like many other collectors I have unknown, good records, often ones that became "in demand" many years after I got them... even if I played them on my radio show. I have no idea what will break in 2012. I'm not part of "the scene" so I don't know or control which records will become popular in 2012. I guess a lot of sweet soul people listen to my radio show so I have a tiny but of control over that but not much. If you look at the past years thread it's always similar, the only ones that people post that break in that year are the ones that are already starting to break when the thread starts..The records that actually become popular seem to be driven by specific DJs playing them, not by how good they are. There are thousands of good, unknown records, so I'm not sure which ones you would want me to list. I'm not saying this thread shouldn't exist, people are posting good obscure records they like which is great. People are enjoying themselves. Just making a comment that they're mostly unlikely to break in 2012.
  20. this thread should be titled: "Name a record you recently got that you hope will go up in value in 2012"
  21. thanks a lot. I watch trashy TV but I don't drink. I already help out the numero group on a lot of stuff. Thanks.
  22. plus i should also win most obnoxious poster
