Worst Ebay Auction
that is a good idea too, but I think it would be funnier to do it for 1 pound less than his start price

John Anderson's Soul Junction Does It Again, Hopkins Bros
I guess you could say that a (legal) reissue of a rare hot record is disrespectful of the scene. But "immoral"?

The Commands
You think the O'Jays has more punch? it's much more generic sounding and less in your face IMO. It is more polished as KevH says.

Sandra Philips Bootleg ?
I got burned with this boot AFTER I bought the manship bootleg guide because it's not listed there. It is listed in volume 5 of the price guide, I can look up the details later if you still need them.

Cracked Records
but there's no rule that the crack takes the grade down by x amount. how muxh does the crack affect the grade? If the record is clean otherwise, I would grade it as ignoring the crack, then add (probably bold text) that it is also CRACKED/

Worst Ebay Auction
I think funnier than sending a message would be to make a fake webpage selling a copy of his crappy bootleg

The Commands
yeah, the instrumental is low and overorchestrated and sort of boring on the o'jays version. and i like eddie levert a lot but the lead of the commands added something special to the backing track and song. the o'jays version sounds sort of generic to me.

Fluorescent Smogg For Sag War Fare
whoa heavy. I actually know someone who has the sag warfare and wants a flourescent smogg. don't know if he'll trade but i'll show him this thread.

The Commands
For me actually what makes the record great it the fey sounding lyrics of the lead and how it goes well with the song. The o'jays version obviously doesn't have that as the lead.

The Commands
just wondering -- what do you like about the ojays version better?

Worst Ebay Auction
yeah, but this dude just downloaded some mp3s and burned them in alphabetical order

Cracked Records
I would never buy a cracked record knowingly. i recently spent a lot on a record that had an extremely hard to see tiny edge crack that you could only see in indirect light for some reason (I tried to scan the 45 and it wouldn't show up). the seller did honestly grade the record and missed the crack. I kept the record (it's hard to let go once it's in my hands). Now I have to deal with the mental turmoil of having an expensive cracked record in my collection. And if I sell it I have to mention the crack even though most sellers and buyers would not see the crack in the first place. I recently got another cracked record (the 7th house that's on debroussard, but on an ultra-rare earlier label). There really aren't any other known copies, my friend took a photo of it at lou ragland's house and that's how we even knew about it. I'm still torn about it. But I didn't pay a lot because the crack was disclosed atleast.

The Commands
I don't understand why some people like the o'jays version better. It's rarer, and I'm a huge o'jays fan, but the commands record is like perfection and the o'jays record isn't even close. I finally got both commands pic sleeves a couple of years ago. The commands are awesome but they definitely did have some crappy sides. However, they also weren't even the same group at that point because they were GIs stationed in San Antonio and a bunch of them left. I talked to one of the Justifiers on Kim, apparently one of the commands records mostly the justifiers.

Worst Ebay Auction
maybe these types of auctions are common, but I just stumbled on this. this has to be one of the dumbest things i've seen a seller try to pull off: https://www.ebay.com/itm/northern-soul-popcorn-DJ-Mix-CD-rare-45-singles-incl-Ujima-Im-Not-Ready-more-/200712033137?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item2ebb5e9371#ht_1911wt_831 $15? my favorite part is this: CD/Mix can NOT be duplicated, published or resold without my permission. what a clown.

yes, if you do the accounting correctly. that's the whole point of accounting.

Warehouse Find I Wonder How Many
the bicknell mountain was supposed to come from people dying off or selling off in the UK, right? Maybe this is somehow a much much larger mountain, let loose to destroy the scene altogether with things like the 2000 missing copies of the hopkins bros.

Basic Black And Pearl Demo's
man, i had the canada release and thought i was set. now i need to collect a polydor promo to get the long/short versions...
-
Warehouse Find I Wonder How Many
I've actually been through unopened store stock (in the back of an actual store) that only had promo copies of polydor titles. I got some copies of vaneese and carolyn "just a little smile" and they were all promos. I sold them to barrie waddington as unused store stock (which they were) and he was annoyed with me when he got them that they weren't actually stock copies. I guess that explains why some polydor stock copies are so rare, if even the stores were carrying promos. Either way, I have no idea what this deadstock is. I'm just pretty sure it's not from a library or radio station as they would mark up their copies. I should maybe just call them or something or knock on their door. I don't think they would appreciate it though.

Warehouse Find I Wonder How Many
yeah I know someone who hit an amazing promotor's collection that had almost anything, but no more than two copies of everything. it's weird that this stuff is mostly verve
-
Warehouse Find I Wonder How Many
it's a gamble though, i doubt there would be 50 copies of anything and there's no way to tell without seeing their stock. Maybe they have 2 copies of something and you miss out. I wonder what "warehouse find" it was though -- I don't know what record warehouses would be around where I live. Obviously they could have gotten the stuff from far away.

John Anderson's Soul Junction Does It Again, Hopkins Bros
apparently this used to be around in at least a small quantity, the older doowop collectors who got into soul all had copies (especially given the connection to the 5 satins and chestnuts). I do NOT have a copy, but I'm not an older doowop collector. Have you ever seen a beat up copy? I've seen it maybe half a dozen times, all unused stock.

Taxman To Hit Ebay Sellers
he still has money flow through his account. but he deals in records and a lot of those are in cash so he can stay mostly under the radar. how would they know about his record dealing and the corresponding costs / profits? I don't even know what records he has to sell...
-
John Anderson's Soul Junction Does It Again, Hopkins Bros
There are some very rare records that were pressed in quantities of 1000 or more AND distributed. People throw records away. I'm doubtful that they actually sold 2000 copies (versus just pressed them) because I've never seen a trashed, used copy of this, only mint stock.
