I agree with this (and I suggested youtube above). But I think someone who wants to be a DJ probably doesn't realize the vast realm of records (they probably got into it hearing the same set of northern oldies). They don't even know that they don't know that much. You see people with no money saving up to buy big records, rather than researching and buying more affordable ones.

so which one is it? actually I think a pretty good resource to learn about soul 45s is youtube. There is so much music there and a lot of it is not 3 and 4 figure records. Also, you could listen to other people's mixes. It still takes time and effort though, it's not like one day someone can decide to be a DJ with little money and end up with a box of good records. But someone who has a lot of money can, unfortunately.

I actually know my most valuable record, just don't want to post it on the internet where anyone can read it after my experience with the cable installers...

I just got cable TV like 9 months ago. The installers were really creepy, they were like "you have a lot of records" and then started asking about how much different things cost, like my turntables. They also asked about my job and when I was home, etc. Eventually it became clear they were scoping out my apartment to rob it. Then they were like "what's your most expensive record?" and I got even more nervous. I was just like "each one is only worth a dollar or two" and they kept pressing me on it an I kept repeating that.

so I got the mother of 3 in the mail, went to check if it was cleaner than my existing copy, and they were different. one had a typewritten label and the one i just got had a label in the regular stang font ... man that label was ghetto

I'm actually more interested in your post now that you articulated your position a little more. What does ace/kent gain by buying the actual 45? Do they gain something value-wise or morally? Is it because they're putting money in a record dealer's pocket so they're supporting the hobby? I can't think of any other reason. It sounds like you have some sort of record collector's code that they're violating. What about when they're going through master tapes, getting better quality recordings, and finding unreleased material? Isn't that superior to mastering off an old 45?

yeah, good price too, it's probably gone already. I wish I could find the other Cautions 45.
