  6. Gotta sat matey...i've had shit nights at the good 'uns, and great nights at the shit ones Think its a mixture of your own mood, whos there what is played, and lots of other possible factors. I myself have had a real humdinger of a time these last few years, enjoy it like when i was a young man, lot to do with my own personal levels of self esteem and worth, and a less hectic persuit of certain things, dance more, buy records again and all my old mates as well as many new ones seem more approachable, than i once wrongly assumed they were. You always seem to be enjoying nights we are at....keep it up Harpo
  7. Gary is once more giving out his vast knowlege, to Sandi and i, and guest lecturer Smokey is also here, its hard to percieve in miles just how many streets ahead of me these guys are. Gary not only brings things around to play us, but also plays us tunes we own but didnt realise it, album tracks, b sides etc.... tHANKS GUYS
  8. "Have you got owt???" lol
  9. Great point! Of course any artist who makes a record does so with the hope that they will achieve recognition, and maybe be able to make a career, and some cash, too. It is sad that in many cases those hopes and dreams did not come to fruition, and they ended up having to find other careers, maybe being able to still perform locally, or in church etc...etc... We have listened to these recordings for so long in many cases with the artistes not knowing , its sad thats the case. Most of those who have found out have been gratefull, and in some cases overawed, shame it was not many more ph

  14. Pete I am so pleased to see the way you have gone about the business of arranging to help John....what a great gesture. As you can see above Pete and i go back a long way, and although we have had periods when we have not seen one another we still remain friends(well most of the time) We have always had very different tastes in our "Soul music", leading to many a livley debate, and the odd tiff, but thats part of the fun of it all! Gotta say ive always seen Pete as a genuine straight guy, his no prisoners tactics, when it comes to puting across his opinion, may offend some, but a litle more of that sort of approach might stop all the bollocks politics we get on the scene, as a person who spent years trying to keep everyone appeased, i particularlly find it refreshing, Pete is always the first to highlight any potentially dodgy sellers on the web, and always gives feedback on blogs that is helpful and informative, Oh! and he ain't had some bad records over the years, i remember having Lenny Curtis, George Kirby Tommy Bush and Major Harris(Can. Epic), to name just a few in the 70's So as is the case with the other guy in the equasion Mr Fingers, its just a case of doing what is right and proper for a mate...good on you Peter, and see you soon Johnny, records don't make the man, you are and always will be with or without them a true friend, see you soon Harpo

Gota say it was a bit up and down and bad journey on A47, but prior to the Wigan Sat night rebirth, anywhere was beter than some of the banal 60's pop played by some in those oldies only times, We had some laughs there with Mr Warrot and the Kettering lot, I've had shit nights at the good venues, good nights at the shit ones, nights ruined after a great journey by going inside, all it needs is the right few people and thats the catalyst

  17. Still cannot get my head around drinkin at nighters.....seems to defeat the object, barbs were bad enough at nighters, but the piss, we really dont want things to end up in brawls, each to their own i suppose, i enjoy a drink in the week at home. My only ever cross words encountered in 35 plus years were at b/pool tower when a guy had a go at me for supposedly hogging some seats leading to him having 3 pints knocked over, all i could say was "firstly ive bin' in the modern room for the last 4 hours", "and then why you drinkin anyway the gear no good" piss laden he retorts "you're a wanker", "yes" i reply "i can confirm i have wanked". Then he said "worst of all you dont even know what northern soul is" I'm glad to say i certainly dont know his version...thank fuck, drink what next watchin the match at weekenders!!!...

Had great nights there, A47 was a nightmare to get there though.....couple of memories spring to mind....the time me and Planty drove to Warrington to pick up Brian and Madeline, called at Gary Rushbrooks in Notts...then Brians van broke down(PLANTY WAS DRIVIND AS bRIAN HAD EITHER AN ARM OR LEG IN PLASTER)Had to get Mick Holsworth to pick us up next day as they we both doing Lacarno dayer...then up to Brians to pick up Plantys car...got in just in time to get bus to work mon. am...i suppose alost 30 years on with 100's os such weekend adventires it seems nowt...but this was at the time a fantastic fun fiasco. Then the night Kev Draper played "I Don't Like to Lose" uncovered, at the time Richards top play, caused a bit of a stir that one LOL rEMEMBER THAT WALLPAPER] hARPO
  22. Never had a problem, but i have always worn leather soled shoes for dancing, although the missus is talc crazy, before we went out with one another Sandi and i went to Pritchards "do" at Dudley, where talc was banned, she filled an ash tray and put it under the table, to dip her shoes in before dancing, and was most indignant when the management removed it, having followed the white footprints from the dancefloor to beneath our table!!!!!! Gotta say if i wa still promoting as a trained IOSH health and safety rep., first aider and trained risk assesor, i would be carrying out risk asessments and would as a result ban talc, and also those ridiculously outdated and totally "cringeworthy" accrobatics during dancing at any event as they are a claim just waiting to happen, all that throwing yourself about was ok in '74 when we were kids, 50+, people doing it now look silly i'm afraid, we may as well just come out and dance the charleston, another silly outmoded/outdated dance form!!!!
