Motown Rarities & Dancers - Spellbound - Final Part
Listening now. Some absolutely fantastic stuff. The production on Jimmy Ruffin's version of "Too busy thinking..." is simply amazing. Just saying, but the Clarence Paul track isn't included in the track listing.

Greatest Soul Albums (70s)
I might give you "Peddling" over "Black Bach", Kev, but "Friction" is probably my all time favourite album, or at least on a par with "Caught Up". But this could easily run to a top 200, never mind a top 20. Hope you're well Kev - might need another CD swap soon.

Greatest Soul Albums (70s)
I knew you'd be in there Kev! Class as always. So where's Caught Up and Still Caught Up? Genesis and Friction? Black Bach? Good topic.

Billy Arnell - Tough Girl
According to a Youtube posting, Richard Tee played on this and Holly, as in the label, was the daughter of the producer. Wonder whether or not this was the label owner rather than the producer as per Andy Rix, George Kerr was the drafted in producer

Temptations vocals
Maybe that's where I saw it, Robb. Do you know if that is still accessible?

Temptations vocals
Sure I didn't dream this but I'm sure I came across a website that listed all the Temptation's tracks with who sang lead vocal etc. Don't seem to be able to find anything like that now. Any offers?

TWO THINGS THAT ARE KILLING THE SOUL SCENE
There's one thing killing the scene 100 times over. Lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination, lack of imagination................................................... If a decent jock has a (decent) collection of say 1000 singles, all worthy of being played out, regardless of genre, and let's say 25% are double siders, and let's say he does a one hour slot, once a week, somewhere, anywhere, and his (or her) slot takes up 25 tracks, he (or her) could play a set every week for a year, with 2 weeks off for hols, without EVER playing the same track twice within that year. Theoretical? Yes but to me it demonstrates why absolute inertia abounds despite over one zillion events taking place every week. For gods sake give me variety. Going to a local soul do is the equivalent of watching the Dave channel - endless repeats of Top Gear et al.

Sweet soul mixcloud mix
Great stuff. The Bobbie Roberson and Donnie Wells tracks are superb.

Willie Tee - First Taste Of Hurt
Just listened to alternative take of this courtesy of an Ian Levine podcast. Not quite as good as the known (to me) version but still quality. IL says that Willie Tee is his favourite artist. High praise indeed.

Ernie Bush - Breakaway
The Magnet. Another gaff I frequented but don't remember it from there either!

What's your favourite Motown Song?
Said it before and I'll say it again. In my very humble opinion there has never been a track that epitomises everything that is so great about Motown as much as "Tracks of my tears" does. The term magnificent doesn't do this justice. Also up there with the very best: "Just ask the lonely" - Four Tops "I wish it would rain" - Temptations "Baby I'm for real" - Originals. Maybe predictable but absolute enduring quality from the opening bar to the final note on each of them

Ernie Bush - Breakaway
Funny what you can't remember! Was around when Brothers etc was being played but just can't remember Ernie Bush at all. Thanks for the input guys.
-
Ernie Bush - Breakaway
74/5, so maybe a Mecca track? Just that I don't remember it from then but it perhaps was lost in the deluge of stuff being discovered/played at that time.

Ernie Bush - Breakaway
Was this associated originally with any particular venue/jock? Great dance track.

NEW PODCAST - THE BEST SPOT I NEVER DID
So imagine what a punter would pay to hear that spot? Awesome mix of the very best.

Racism at NS venues; did/does it happen
Never experienced racism or saw it at the venues I went to between 69 and 76. And that included going with a group that included an Asian lad and a black lad. Ill informed comments from people who have never really been part of the scene seem to come to the fore every now and then and in the public eye it could give the wrong impression but I'd like to believe that there is little credence given to opinions and comments from somebody like Craig Charles. I would have expected better of the Guardian to at least check the reality of the situation without resorting to accepting it at face value which they appear to have done.

New Mister Fish Mix
Looks good to me Steve.

Podcast - Youth Club Soul Revisited
One of the greatest Motown vocal tracks - These things.... - followed by maybe the greatest ever Motown instumental - 6x 6. Just wonderful memories

Bbc Four Tonight 9.00Pm- Old Grey Whistle Test
That David Byrne. He wasn't a full shilling was he? Enough of that. Gladys was just beautiful, Curtis was immense and Gil was cool. It needed Nils Lofgrin to close it out though.
