Stanky - Billy Davis Talk (Split From Orig Thread)
I get the " impossible to answer" bit and I do agree that it's difficult to ignore a tune if the dance floor gives a positive reaction. However I was talking as a punter not a DJ. I don't like the track but it makes not one iota of difference to me if others do.

Stanky - Billy Davis Talk (Split From Orig Thread)
But that's what we do on this forum isn't it? Somebody states as a fact that a certain track was played at a particular venue in a particular year. Somebody might know differently and says so. Maybe not the most riveting of exchange of opinions but not particularly daft either. So if you don't like the track you're firstly a soul snob and then, worse, a bloody idiot. Personal preference anyone?

Stanky - Billy Davis Talk (Split From Orig Thread)
Not sure why in this particular case people can't distinguish between "known" and "popular". Ergo it might have been "popularised" at Burnley but it was certainly "known" earlier at Prestwich where I first heard it. And I didn't like it then and it becoming "popular" has not changed that view.

Movin' On Weekender Barcelona - Mr Fish Warm-Up Set
Yeah, how about one based on that set? Excellent playlist, Steve.

Oldies Scene
Ah, the Box thread is what it's all about then. Not sure it's purposely about the oldies scene but there is something unappealing about people who should know better squabbling in a public forum. It was mildly interesting but lost my attention very quickly.

Oldies Scene
Ok point me to the threads and I'll make my own mind up.

Oldies Scene
I'm sure it does Mark but "there's a lot of gobshites on here" doesn't automatically come across as significant words of wisdom does it?
-
Oldies Scene
Incisive commentary but somewhat lacking in depth of analysis.

Funk Night On Bbc4 - Tonight (Friday 5 Dec 2014)
Of course it was different to JB but vanilla pop is so not an appropriate term to use.

Funk Night On Bbc4 - Tonight (Friday 5 Dec 2014)
One minute in and I fear the worst. "Motown - vanilla pop" By who's definition?

Tomangoes Acetate ?
Really? London/Stateside pressings are contemporaneous. Does this make Revilot "more" original?
-
Tomangoes Acetate ?
And if you really need this explaining to you, then you seriously do not get it.

Soul Source Fav Records List
Rich Chorley collated it but lost all of the info when he had some personal difficulties. You'll know he's not on here anymore.

Instrumentals - Bovvered?
Nobody's mentioned what would have been a holy grail record in 1971 - well it was for me. The thunderous "6 x 6" - just about everything including the proverbial kitchen sink thrown in.

Instrumentals - Bovvered?
103 posts and nobody's mentioned "Condition Red" Or maybe there's a reason why............................... Anyhow I've always loved "Scrub-board" - the merits of which the vocal has been discussed here recently.

Carstairs ?
Think I'm with Rick on the timeline of this. Less than a year I would have said. Pretty sure Levine played this at Sale Mecca for the first time before Blackpool. Surely using 're-issue' implies an issue had already taken place which appears not to be the case here.

News: Pete Lawson 1984 Letter To Blackbeat
Respect the passion but the 'If you're not with us, you must be against us' stance is puzzling. Having said that it's not a unique stance is it?

The Sunday Soul Sessions - Kettering 2/11/14

Off To Berlin - Tips Please
Essential, as is making sure you've got enough time to get back to Bremen for the return flight. Which I didn't.............. Oh and I bagged a 110 euro speeding fine in the process. An interesting trip all round.

Off To Berlin - Tips Please
Wonderful city, Godz. Went last year and will have to dig my guide out to remind me of the places we ate at and drank. There was one particular funky bar with a good vibe but I just can't remember what it was called. Didn't do any music gaffs but am sure others will come good. The amount of unlisted - as not in the guides - of substantial and historical buildings is mind blowing. Did a tour round the city on a canal barge type thing which was worth it. Postamerplatz is worth a view at night and we went on the fastest elevator in Europe in the Kollhoff Building there. Usual sightseeing stuff is definitely worth doing - Holocaust Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie, the Wall, Reichstag Building, Brandenburg Gate etc. I also did the Bauhaus Archive and the Museum fur Naturkunde which are my type of thing. Word of warning - if you are flying, which I guess you are - don't book the flights and then pay for them, only to find you've booked and paid for flights to Bremen instead! Not me, I'll add, my other half. Anyway that 400 mile round road trip was worth it.

Are You One?
Good to see there are not too many dissenters. Maybe those that distance themselves from the notion of being a 'Northern Souler' are so because of the more recent representation of the term/scene by the media. And yet even the most progressive elements of the music scene via the ideology and ethos of the 'Rare Soul Scene' still comes under the general banner of Northern Soul. And that ought to transcend any negativity associated with the identification of a Northern Souler.

You're right mate. I knocked about in Burnsworth for years and never saw her once.

Perhaps the question ought to be - What's the relevance of your question?
-
The Film - Reviews
All of the reviews, in the main, are positive. There are 6 votes for 1 star so it would be interesting to have a critique from somebody who felt it only deserved that. Purely from a sense of balance, mind.

Seriously? If so it's to be hoped that only Middle Earth hobbits are in attendance at The Battle of the Five Armies.
