Tyrone Davis - What If A Man / Bet You Win Abc 11030
sorry, no spare...but this is one of those records with the song mistitled on the label (isn't there a thread on that somewhere?). it's really called "bet you *i* win," but every copy i've ever seen has it wrong. the little milton version on stax is also quite good, and cheap and common. and it has the right song title.

Bob Mayes Record Store
ah, he'd moved across the street since your last visit, john. i believe that was in '85 or so. by the time i started going circa '87 or '88, the only mutts he still had quantity on were carol jones, jake wade, milton harris, little leon, johnny wellington....

New World We're Gonna Make It Polydor 45
well, i'll add that i got it cheap ten years ago without knowing a thing about it and liked it as much then as i do now. to each his own.

Bob Mayes Record Store
was just there monday for the last time...very sad. i've shopped there for close to 20 years and have probably bought a quarter to a third of my collection from bob. some of the lp shelves were already cleared out, though most of the 45s were still there. his landlords have shut off his utilities and he has to be out by the end of the month to make way for a parking lot. little do they realize that his humble, smoke-filled shop has for years been one of detroit's main draws for international tourists!! the good news is he's planning to continue selling out of his home. m

New World We're Gonna Make It Polydor 45
i must disagree with those who say it's "average" or a "standard" curtis cover. there's a really startling power to the production and the singing that makes listeners take notice when it's played loud, believe me.

Roger Collins Record Info
yes, it exists. mine is on green vinyl. one problem you might be having in searching is that his name appears on the label as ROGERS COLLINS.

Fine Young Cannibals - Good Thing -scooters
i've always thought this was a bit indebted to z.z. hill's "gimme gimme"!

The Friendly Face Of Collecting Pt.1 - The Zudan Label
thanks! this "green power" is a different song entirely from the little richard. there is a female version of the little richard by katie briggs that's not bad...
-
The Friendly Face Of Collecting Pt.1 - The Zudan Label
the sir sidney wallace, "green power," came out on zudan with two different flips: "the grinder" and a ballad whose name escapes me. annoyingly, most copies that say "the grinder" are mistakenly labeled and play that same ballad whose name escapes me. however, i have heard one copy on which "the grinder" is a funk instrumental. does anyone have a copy of THAT that i can buy?

Four Sonics
one of my all-time favorites! can't believe it isn't more popular (though it's not really a dancer)...fits nicely with the falcons' "good good feeling" and the new holidays' "maybe so, maybe no" as all share that stunning world-is-about-to-end gloomy/beautiful detroit sound....

Styrene
in my experience limiting the weight on the stylus is not as important for preventing damage to styrene records as the alignment of the stylus...it really must be straight up and down, perpendicular to the grooves. one interesting thing is that a hissy monophonic styrene record can be given new life if you play it with a mono needle instead of the standard stereo needle. the mono needle hits the groove where it was intended to be hit, avoiding damage previously caused by stereo needles hitting it not quite where it was intended to be hit, if you follow me.
