  1. I just know I can still find night's that excite me,really looking forward to making my first visit to Steve Cato's night in a couple of weeks, still really pissed off I haven't made the new Lifeline yet (bloody wedding this week ),had one of the best night's of the year the other week at Driving Beat, really enjoyed Wetherby oldies night last week. While I still keep getting the buzz from the music..........that works for me I'll still be doing what I do & not tell others what they should do? Cheers Martyn
  2. I'm too busy looking superior in my up to the minute fashions & talking to the plebs about my white label record collection to get involved with that dancing fad........it'll never catch on Cheers Elite Martyn

  4. Derek No this be can't the same Bobby S I drool over everytime I hear it.It's one of my tunes I'd never part with as to me it's a masterpiece of soul music & never fails to move me........and will always remind me of Mouse as it was him I first heard play it Cheers Martyn

  7. We've found a winner,I defy anyone to find anything as bad as this. What makes it doubly painful for me is I think Walters version of "It's An Uphill" is one of the greatest soul records ever. Cheers Martyn
  8. I can't pick a single note that's out of tune on this because all of it sounds out of tune to me??...........the problem is I've played it that many times in disbelief that it actually ever got made I've started to like it And the A side is even worse Cheers Martyn
  9. I'm usually a vocals over inst man but one that goes against that for me is the inst side of The Contemplations(Rock Candy)-Alone With No Love Dontee. Both brilliant sides but the inst just shades it for me. Cheers Martyn

  16. So you lot have nearly talked me into maybe parting with a few,the idea of getting rid all at once is just not an option so have been pondering the 300 box idea?Since giving it some thought I've become more confused (yes I know it's not hard before some of you start )?If I was to do the 300 thing what does that consist of?I collect.....early 60t's/RnB....60t's northern & 70t's.........do I keep 100 of each or do I keep 300 of each, surely it's 300 of each........it'd be just too big a wrench to whittle it down to 100 of each.Until I sort that dilemma out I'll keep hold of them Cheers Confused From Hull
  17. Neil Remind me next time I bump into you,I've got a pint for you............"Young Fella" You leave LUFC alone This threads depressing me Cheers Martyn
  18. This is a conversation I have with my wife as she always calls my collection her pension (so we know who's going first in our house ) I've told her the top end stuff will go without much problem but she'll be left with a good few cheaper tunes that are great records but everyone has them?So the dilemma is does she try to get the £5/10 they are worth, keep them or as I've told to do she should sell them at £1/2 pound each & then at least most will go & she'll have a few extra quid as they are no use stuck in a box in the bottom of a wardrobe? I have thought on occasions about selling up but just can't bring myself to do it,the thought of a 300 box also appeals to me but never done anything about it?I go back to when I had my stroke & was out of work I still collected,so I more or less know I'll collect til the end? My names Martyn Bird I'm a vinyl addict Cheers Martyn

  23. So have I got this right Ady will pick people he trust with The 100 Club's ethos to pick there personal perfect night of dj's to go along side the residents?Think this sounds a briliant idea & will bring slight twists to each night & keep it fresh, plus it will give a chance to some dj's who aren't on Ady's radar..............or have I got it all tits up? If I have got it right other nighters should do it. Cheers Martyn
  24. Having read the book I thought it did over do the drugs bit a little but as it's a group of personal stories from people from each period pulled together to tell the story of the scene it just goes to show how important the drug side was to most of us at that time.So those who have airbrushed that side of the scene out of there memories are deluded to a certain extent. What the book reminded me was that I had forgotten those frightening bastards that were about (fortunately some of em were my mates or I knew some the other big lads) but in retrospect that was one the draws of the scene.........been a bit iffy, knowing dodgy guys, breaking all the rules. I remember when the locals at Wigan used to come out the pubs after last orders & think it was fun to go "soulie" bashing,we used to pile off the Hull coach & throw ourselves into giving them a good kicking if we could.......it was the perfect night,a nighter, plenty of gear & a fight..........what more could you ask for, saved us scrapping with each other Happy days. Cheers Martyn
