  1. yes I am sure you will do well. the soul scene is full of old farts whose kids are probably not at school anymore so they don't have to pay through the nose for expensive summer holidays in august
  2. august is probably even tougher than june IMO thats when most go away for summer holiday. School holidays etc etc. anyway sorry to hear this i'm sure the next one will be as good as ever and well attended after the extended break.
  3. I tried 3 times to read that review you quoted and make some sense of it.....
  4. I can't remember how much John got for the infamous Frank Wilson so was this recent sale of Mellosouls the most a soul record has ever sold for ? is that figure known by people or was it a private sale.
  5. I always though he was a bit of a w**nker myself
  6. what happened to arkwright did you see him off...........
  7. Its a fantastic series of CDs and as said is essential listening. If I remeber right from the sleeve notes Dave Godin put Jaibi as his all time fave you've managed to put it at 95th welcome to the forum.
  8. no pete likes it as well. I think its rubbish.
  9. Joe Jama was covered as Little Henry because Henry Atkinson discovered it and sold it to Tim.
  10. Has butch had a rethink on retireing or just delayed the decision a bit ? will he be doing other UK gigs still as well as the 100 club ?
  11. just had a quick listen to sugar boy as I didn't know it and there seems to be a few ripples judging by the comments on here its received more than any other record mentioned. Its pretty good but not as good as the little beaver I mentioned not in the same league IMO. and i'm sure peggy babcock will love it that tempo is right up his street.
  12. Yes i'm sure that james knight has been pushed before. I picked it up after first hearing "baby please pretty please" on cat then going on to look for other stuff by him. Its a great record and has the latin vibe that seems in vogue now. So no reason why it couldn't go on to be a much more recognised and even more popular record than in the past. It seems quite obscure i've not seen loads of copies.
  13. I sold this on here middle of 2011 and always thought it was due some attention. my 2 tips are little beaver "i'm a man" cat david dee "every loving man" time both ripe for the rare soul scene.
  14. the track played in soul or nothing room on sat sounded realy good.
  15. I assume robert thomas on venture has already had its time as a fairly well known dancefloor filler ? a couple of copies just gone through ebay relatively cheap and the deep soul flip is incredible. banny price "monkey see monkey do" would be my tip for an instrumental that could have some success. It sounds awesome to me. nice to see roy roberts on linco being tipped now i've sold mine
  16. I paid about $6 on ebay in 2009 so it didn;t have much demand then.
  17. i'm through with you just about shuiffles along at x-over pace. A brilliant double sider and well worth a mention. His best record ? my contribution for this thread and my best buy in 2010 has to be ray quarles "its gonna be all over" faces and david dee on time about that got some time in the spotlight as a semi known 60s. Proper northern IMO.
  18. i'm gald I have a M- spare if this is true.
  19. it won't be all that long before nobody knows what was and wasn't in soul packs...... all the information will become 2nd and 3rd hand. speaking for myself I can only base how hard records are to find on how often I come across them now. there is still plenty of brilliant music being played and thats the main thing.
  20. keele was in a uni building wasn't it ? did many students end up popping along to see what it was all about ?
  21. oh........... better sell all my records then.
  22. the quality of soul music available on comps like this is a fantastic thing as people can learn about and hear the music without having to spend $$$
