  1. Now I can agree. It was the 'Premier League' exclusivity that got me. I've seen big name dj's turn up to play nothing but big bucks tunes and frankly that has shown a lack of imagination IMO. What excites me is the lesser known guys who do use imagination and mix in a good proportion of forgotten and underplayed stuff into their sets - not dismissing anything 'cos it only cost a fiver. - Kev
  2. Having great taste is exclusive to only a small group of 'Premier League' DJ's ? .....and that's what seperates them from the rest ? You're havin' a laugh. - Kev
  3. Spot on Manus, particularly the "being able to jive to" part - my personal criteria exactly! Can never forget an "old soul" venue in Northants (The George, at Wilby), prior to the Northern Soul tag I was going there and listening to the likes of the Invitations, Major Lance, Superlatives,Poets, Jackie Lee, etc, etc. The venue had been frequented by my cousin a few years earlier ('66/'67?). When she found out I was going she said "Oh, you like R&B then?". "Is Gibby Dj'in there? Does little Gilly still go?" There you go, same dj's, same crowd, same core music, different titles - R&B / Old Soul / Northern Soul. I guess it's evolution. Personally I think Ady Croasdell has it right with "Rhythm and Soul" - Kev

Ha, no not a Social Scientist! Never been a fan of statistics as they always seem to be missing something significant which would drastically alter what they pretend to portray. On another note - thanks to all for mentioning the Jazz Workshop LP which I had no idea about. You live and learn. - Kev

Yep, that was the one I didn't like. They didn't say jazz group - they said jazz BAND. That makes me think of Kenny Ball. Does singing a few jazz standards make you a jazz band/group? What about their doowop stuff? I'd always imagined their roots lay there, but am willing to be enlightened. - Kev

....and had a 50% chance if he'd done it blindfold! 80% for me with no cheating. 90% if I cheat - 'cos I didn't like one of the answers. - Kev
  7. If I'd posted a sale or want, I'd be well pee'd off with all this chat knocking my topic down the list. - Kev
  8. By the time he'd replied to you I'd already told him it was a boot, so no excuse for pleading ignorance. What a tosser! - Kev
  9. Reported a few on ebay - mostly those that seem to set up a label and have a cottage industry going. Nothing happened as far as I know. Even seen one openly listed as a boot and it wasn't cancelled. Ebay might have rules but they seldom enforce them, particularly when it's not to their advantage. - Kev
  10. Just noticed that this is on tonight, BBC4 23.55 - 00.55 Otis Redding; Soul Ambassador Documentary featuring 1967 British Tour, U.S. Monterey Festival, etc - Kev
  11. Now at £62 Well here's my 'acting the innocent' question, the reply and a response: Great tune - thanks for the soundclip. How would you describe this - original? 2nd issue? bootleg? As it had a decent start price I was hoping it might be an original. - Kev I am not an authority on this particular 45 I am afraid. I can say it came out of a collection not seen the light of day in over 35 years and one identical sold for $108.60 on Feb 15th according to an old listing. Hmmm, but you know it's a 'huge oldie' and you've been selling soul vinyl for 40yrs? It's a bootleg so you must be hoping to have someone over by not alluding to that and by refusing to acknowledge it when questioned. - Kev I don't expect to see the question retained on his listing though. Then again, it's not a huge price so maybe the bidders know what it is and have more money than sense. Stranger things have happened. For £60 profit I might try and locate my boot copy. - Kev

Coast to Coast sounds familiar. Got a copy run off on cd/dvd somewhere. - Kev
  13. Same as mine. Think it's from Belgium and the Omega copy is the first release. - Kev
  14. It was for the deaf. They didn't hear them the first time around. - Kev
  15. Nice, but I've heard instrumentals which I prefer - or which are more dance orientated. Used to sometimes play this early doors, before the official start time and while finalising the room set up and greeting early-birds. - Kev https://youtu.be/oggUQAWjdyE
  16. I was channel hopping and caught the last 15 minutes.Didn't realise it was SignZone - I thought some enterprising person had put together a hand-jive dance tutorial for the new wave of soulies. - Kev
  17. And that's the way I do it as a buyer Pete. If someone is a mate or a seller that I use regularly, then I may well choose to make a gift payment as a 'thankyou'. Thing is now, I wouldn't know if they're being scrutinised by paypal and I might be giving them grief (probably not - but it could happen). - Kev.
  18. If you ask the buyer to include the paypal % then some bright spark is gonna think to make a gift payment to avoid the extra. Just include all your costs in the price. - Kev
  19. I've mentioned it a couple of times over the years and it's one of those posts that tends to get ignored usually. Think my last and recent post was something like: Requesting or making a GIFT payment when it's not for a gift but is for goods and/or services is against Paypal/Ebay rules and this misuse can cause you to have the whole paypal facility made unavailable to you. It's buried somewhere in their Terms & Conditions, and apparently they actively seek out those abusing the process. I know many people use/expect to be gifted all the time and have flown under the radar for years and never had a problem. This instance is the first I've heard of someone on here getting caught out. The choice is yours, but it galls me when sellers practically demand a gift payment. - Kev
  20. Many, many favourites featuring the great voice of Levi Stubbs, including this accapella version which really showcases his perfection: https://youtu.be/mGqBWjMmVps - Kev
  21. Nice set Russ. I hope the Spaniards didn't confiscate all that vinyl at the border with Gib. See you next year matey. - Kev
  22. OK, just a thought - what about some upbeat early Motown. Plenty of music books and downloads (some FREE - www.sheetmusic.cc ) I think you may struggle with sheet music for lesser known stuff. - Kev
  23. Would you like us to come and sing it for you too? Maybe your friend should go for a different genre of music. - Kev
  24. What do you mean? - Where there is a soundclip i.e. Youtube? Or where there is sheet music available? - in which case you should be able to check yourself following song suggestions on here. - Kev
  25. Thanks! Didn't realise it was a revival / nostalgia thing. - Kev
