  1. First time I ever went to Blackpool Mecca in 71, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. He waltzed into the Highland room wearing a white lace shirt with bell sleaves and carrying two boxes of records. I thought it was Freddie Mercury, when my mate said "thats Tony Jebb" I couldnt believe it and I thought my god what the f***ks he gonna play. When he did his spot I was in complete awe.Got to know him quite well over ther next year or so. The first big name Dj on a then emerging Northern, scene and a true legend. Very sad news indeed.

No he isn't, its covered by the licence that the venue holds to play music, only if he sells the recorded work is he in breach of copyright. Assuming, that the tune was recorded before 1941, as copyright on recorded work is valid only for 70 years. Public performanceClubs and venues will generally be licensed for public performance, the administration of this is carried out by various organisations throughout the worldIn the UK this is dealt with by the PRS for Music. In Australia this is dealt with by the Australia Phonographic Performance Company of Australia Limited (PPCA).The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers and SESAC, provide performance licenses in the U.S.ASCAP also provide a list of affiliated organisations dealing with performance rights in other countries.

The 68-year-old - who also has plans to release a new album - will perform at the Seneca Niagara Casino in Buffalo, New York on 28 May. Last November Franklin cancelled all concerts and public appearances for six months under doctor's orders. The following month she had what she described as "more than minor surgery". Since then the "queen of soul" has revamped her diet and lost weight. "I want to not only maintain the weight I am at now, but better it by one dress size," she told the Associated Press news agency. In January she told US magazine Jet that she was "feeling great" and her medical condition had been resolved. Last weekend saw Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Florence Welch and others perform a tribute to Franklin at this year's Grammy awards.
