  4. I'm so sorry to have to inform you about my brother's passing on 10th Jan. The following entry will be in the Manchester Evening News on Thursday 22nd ; " Simon Lyster passed away suddenly on Sat 10th January at his home in Marple, Stockport. Simon aged 56 years, much loved husband of Jean, loving father of Andrew and father in law of Rachel. Dear brother to Peter and Susan and brother in law to Cathy, Kevin, Peter and Ann and friend to so many. Service and Cremation to be held at the Rowan Chapel, Stockport Crematorium at 1-45pm on Wednesday 28th January and afterwards at the Puss in Boots Pub, Nangreave Road, Offerton, Stockport, SK2 6DG. Family flowers only please but donations if desired to ' Speakability ', a National Charity dedicated to supporting people with Aphasia, c/o Co-operative Funeral Services, 48-50 Buxton Road, High Lane, Cheshire, SK6 8BH " I can still hardly believe I'm typing these words. We are going to miss Simon so much. The service is going to be a very sad occasion. But the family is determined to make sure that there is plenty of music involved as that was such a passion of Simon's for all of his life. Anyone who knew Simon and would like to come along and pay their respects at the crematorium, and have something to eat after the service, is more than welcome to join us. And hopefully stay on and help us celebrate Simon's life in the appropriate way for someone who loved music but was dedicated particularly to American Soul music of the 1960's to date. Simon started off a life long love affair with Northern Soul particularly at Stamford Hall in Altrincham, then the Blue Rooms in Sale and the Pendulum in Manchester, and then ( particularly ) at the Ritz, and so on and so on........... We will be determined to give him a fitting send off and will be playing some of his favourite tunes. If anyone has any queries, please pm me on here ( Ricticman ). Thanks Pete Lyster
  5. Ian, ditto ditto nice one matey
  6. As ever, always impressed with the collective knowledge on SS. No sarcasm - I mean it. I think this thread shows why any chance of a large scale crim. bootlegging scam is very small - the web comms and knowledge swapping and sharing means it probably wouldn't work. It might of worked 'last century' before SS and similar were created, and knowledge was more ' word of mouth '. I'm far more nervous about cyber scamming when buying a [ bigger ] tune ? Especially when the seller is not known to me, but I can't resist 'engaging ' in the chase for the record.
  7. yep, there's def a demo I'll try and scan, but don't hold your breath
  8. Doh, missed another one in Soul Source Sales today, so anyone got one to sell ? Please get in touch via pm ? Thanks pete
  9. Great list of lps. What a fantastic selection of releases from Japan. Blimey didn't they get it big time ? Is there a thread anywhere, [ don't want to be an arse and clutter up a sales thread ] as to why , specifically, Japan / Japanese record Cos embraced this so enthusiastically ??
  10. brilliant, but 30 secs too long less is more
  11. Absolute ' must listen ' radio.......but only until 7-30pm ? I was too thick then to stay and listen to the blues etc played after that. It was [ I believe ] new releases mainly for the first 30 mins. Heard Jerry Butler, many Action things, etc etc, : then off to ' Browns ' [ a flecky, but god I loved it ] dance hall youth club type thingie on the Sunday night. Then buy or order the best record I'd heard on the Sunday evening prog, in my lunchtime on the Monday following day [ usually at White and Swales in Stretford ]. Pete Is this post more ' last of the summer wine ', rather than ' all our yesterdays ' !
  12. Totally agree about her books - worth reading But not at all sure about the last comment , unless you're being sarcastic , in which case I'll get my coat
  13. There's some spine shivering posts on here [ ' Jackie Wilson at the 100 Club ' ]. Can only imagine ! For any old timers on here, from the NW / Manc, anybody see Jnr Walker at the Hardrock in Stretford [ hazy , but I guessing 1970 ]. a] was he there b] was he as brilliant as I have always remembered [ or is it distance / time / enhancement thing going on ]. If it is that, try and let me down easy, I've spent 40+ years now going on about it !
  14. blimey, 10. Now I need to know, something else to collect - bloody hell
  15. sorry, posted x 2
  16. I've been wondering how many were issued. I've got 3, and from the numbers, I assume at least 8 were issued ? ' My Guy ' TAIR86008, 7 tracks by Mary Wells and 7 by Brenda H ' Friendship Train ' TAIR86001, 7 tracks by Gladys and the Pips and 7 by the Isleys ' Please Mr Postman ' TAIR86005, 7 tracks by the Marvellettes and 4 by the Velvelettes and 3 by the Elgins. If there are [at least 5 other ] could someone enlighten ? cheers
  17. I'm talking strictly in a UK release context ; There was the 12/6d Atlantic sampler [ This is Soul ] , which was pretty ground breaking at the time, and a subsequent ' This is Sue ' , same price. Maybe not that rare / scarce stuff, but def got me into this mess. Then the early TMG / Stateside comps and the Bell Cellars of Soul. The Columbia v/a lp of okeh stuff was amazing. But, along with the Tempts ' With a lot of soul ' [see above ], the 2 James Carr lps [stateside / Bell ], are the db's.........in my h.o. of course.
  18. Oh Yes !!
  19. Anyone got a copy to sell / swap / part-ex [ your call ] Please get in touch via pm Many thanks pete
