  1. Frankie was also in the group The Tripps on Victoria. I interviewed him 10 years ago while he was working for DHL. Sadly no longer with us.
  2. Kev will do Tony 😀 Good memory....I brought it to the UK in 1975 on behalf of my friend Morty Craft who released it on JAN(his girlfriend) who we called 'Red' due to her flowing barnett! I hooked Morty together with Pye for a U.K. Release. As for the first copies......considering I brought 25 back initially, I can't remember who I gave it to. The Mecca ran with it immediately and Cleethorpes too. Glad there's interest some 42 years later. Best to all.
  3. Artists scheduled to appear: FREDDIE CHAVEZ THE YOUNGHEARTS JIMMY RAYE SONNY TURNER JODI MATHIS THE INSPIRATIONS SONNY CHARLES LOU RAGLAND LENNY CURTIS TERRIBLE TOM
  4. Dave- I have to say....it's 400. Really scarce back in 1974 never mind now. Not sure folks realise how hard it is to find. I know the label owner Randy Irwin and he told me it bombed in the early 70's. Something tells me it's a 1971/72 release not 60's. Just my considered opinion of course price wise 😀
  5. Glad to see my old mate Margie Clarke getting the voice over gig. A great actress who I brought into Radio some time ago. As for the ad....it's ok and fairly unremarkable.
  6. That's exactly what happened. The Flirtations on Festival produced by Barnes and Jackson are not the same group that the very same writer/producers worked with as in the Gypsies, later the Flirtations. Totally different groups. If you get chance to speak with any of the Flirtations(as in from 1968) on Facebook, they will tell you Stronger Than Her Love on Festival is nothing to do with them.
  7. How does that work? The Flirtations feat Charlotte Stokes cut Stronger Than Her Love. They are not the same outfit who recorded for Deram and formerly as The Gypsies.
  8. I'm sure you realise this is a different Flirtations to the main one? It wasn't made for the Northern scene. Stokes was a member of the Josie group and sang this guide vocal before they went with 'Darkness Into Light' It was simply a demo aand not good quality with equally poor sales as a Ltd release in the 70's. Hasn't stopped it growing in value Year on Year though.
  9. Blooming heck what a memory. I had a few copies of the Blue Jays. Retailed them at £6 each 😀
  10. Yes. Herb Abramson worked plenty with Ken Williams the guide vocalist. And the same source delivered the Stronger Than Her Love inst.
  11. The record was manufactured by the late Herb Abramson who owned Festival. Herb was a friend of mine who playing through acetates found this 1967 recording(different play on Change My Darkness Into Light if my memory serves correct). He made 300 copies which sadly did not sell due to the quality.
  12. And the host of the show was a good friend of mine Hy Lit. Apart from hosting some excellent acts(check out Bob Brady, The Ambassadors etc) he was a fantastic DJ. One of the greatest ever in fact. Sadly he's no longer with us

Diane NEWBY(she recorded for Kapp too) and Johnson I don't know. They were from Ithaca, New York. The record was written by my friend Larry Weiss who also did of Man of Value, I Go to Pieces(Everytime) and HI HO SILVER LINING for Jeff Beck 😀

Gobsmacked. I remember interviewing him like it was yesterday. Sadly he couldn't make SoultripUSA in 2004 sending his manager instead. Quite a gal! The foot stomping by Sly Stone on I'll Never Fall In Love Again' and BF's masterful vocals were sumptuous. RIP my friend.
  15. It wasn't re-recorded. Karl White(Chalky) has done or is in the process of completing the musical history of the group and Charles too. A case of all will be revealed. As a taster, here's a shot of Charles recently. The interview footage will eventually be on the SoultripUSA page (Facebook) Charles will in fact perform his two most famous songs 'No One Else...' and 'You'll Never Make The Grade' at our event in Las Vegas next year.
  16. Chalky- It's a really strange release. Bobby Sanders(RIP) was a dear friend and Ron Preyer Younghearts lead. The single released in 1967 initially sold for the 'Beginning of the End'. However 12 months later 'A Little Togerherness' received interest locally and even made a few radio charts. By 1970 it has become a firm oldie at dances around the LA urban area. Almost a collectors item you might say. Add to that the UK interest from 1972, the label was still in business and had the ability to reissue/re-press at will. Chris Lalor will remember Bob at SoultripUSA in LA. A classic from release and revered worldwide as an ultimate 'Northern Soul Sound'

Adams Apples were from New Brunswick NJ. They were on their way to see me at SoultripUSA 2006. A mix up with dates meant they arrived at the Hilton after I departed. I interviewed them for either Jazz FM or Smooth who I worked for at the time. A Black group made to sound white!
