It's a completely different take of the track. Good, but the SOS 45 is better IMO.......
  5. Not a cover of Eskew Reeder by any chance is it?
  6. Try the other side of "Skate Awhile Baby" by Claudia Green. An excellent uptempo track called "I Just Love The Guy", and 100 times better than the A-side!
  7. I've only ever seen West Coast styrene presses of it. Remember, it was distributed by Sue, and most (if not all) of their issues and demos around 1969 were styrene.

  15. And i bet the person who filmed it without sound is now thinking "I should have known better"!
  16. Hi Pete, Unable to run the clips as I'm at work at the mo. I think it was the 30 min film I did you, with a spoken intro by Tony Verity, and then straight into Byron Lee & The Dragonaires doing Jamaica Ska - am I right? If so, this has the second "End" logo with the applause. To me, it looks like it's compiled from two separate films as they look like they've been filmed on different occasions. There's certainly a difference between, for example, Prince Buster doing "Wash Wash", to Byron Lee & The Dragonaires doing "Sammy Dead" (not the Eric Morris clip at the start of the film). The alternative ending, which ends with I Don't Know by the Blues Busters was shown on BBC2 in June 1986. If you run through the clip on your vid again, you'll probably notice that after the bad editing of split-second dance clips, it fades out into Sammy Dead. Thankfully, I still have the film as part of my pride and joy of my video collection. Confused? You bet I am mate! Gene
  17. Stuart, the white presenter was Tony Verity - voted WIRL DJ of the year almost every year during the late '60s. I think there were two separate films made. I have seen two different endings; one with the Blues Busters doing "I Don't Know" which ends with the "A Jamaican Film Unit Production" (the one screened by BEEB2 in 1986) and another end which just ends with a table of 4 people applauding, under a chinese-looking "END" logo. Anyone confirm this, or know the running order for the two films?

Greg Butler in Foxton, Cambs, has long been a specialist of 78s. Sometimes he holds sales at his home - see the following link: https://www.wereallneighbours.co.uk/idlecha...age.php?id=1838 As far as turntables that play 78s go, Richer Sounds currently have a lovely Thorens TD-170 in stock for £199 (and well worth the money IMO). Here's the link to it: https://www.richersounds.com/showproduct.ph...;pid=THOR-TD170 Word of advice - if buying the Thorens TD 170, it's advisable to buy a separate Audio Technica cartridge from somewhere like Hi-Fi Care, as they still make 78 styli for them. PS: No, I do NOT want to sell my Jo Ann Henderson 78!
  19. I reckon it started in 1953, with the formation of The Drifters, but was bought more to light in 1955 with "Please, Please, Please" by James Brown.

I see the seller's drastically dropped his P&P costs from the £3.50 he charged me for the Royal Esquires a few years ago - which only cost £1.20 to send in second-hand packaging!
  21. Well IMO - he sent the right side. "I'm Sure" is the side that isn't really worth a . "Look Around" is the decent side.........
  22. Aaah, supermarkets. The place to perve.....erm I mean pull!
  23. No, no - it IS what's underneath that counts - but who wants to delve that deeply????
  24. What branch of Asda is it that has the naturist shopping evening for nudists? And where do they keep their change?
  25. AT an event I was DJing at in London in 1983, someone came up to me with a request for "The Closer You Get". Immediately, I thought of "The Closer She Gets" by John Drevares. He said it wasn't, and I couldn't help him. He went off a bit miffed. Half an hour later, he returned, insisting that I had this track called "The Closer You Get". When he started humming it, I realised he meant "I Get The Sweetest Feeling" by Jackie Wilson! I don't think it's bad form to ask for your favourite record - any DJ can say yes or no. Just choose your words carefuly, and know what you're asking for!
