I don't like being called a 'DJ' in the few instances I've been asked to jockey the Ds. I collect records I personally enjoy and am not interested in buying stuff just because it's popular or in demand. Maybe that's why I don't get asked to more events!

Average price for the Little Joe Hinton? Seems a lot for a record I've seen on ebay now and again for around £400. Maybe I'm out of touch.

I first encountered this bicker-fest around the time of Stafford when more 'RnB' tinged stuff was being played mostly by Keb and Guy. Quite a few of the hardened Wiganites I knew were very scornful of the likes of Arthur Alexander or Stewart Ames becoming popular with the younger crowd. On the other hand they all ran off and bought copies of Tommy Navarro (boot or otherwise) and that was Latin! Oooh, I don't know, there's nowt as queer as folk.

It was a more personal look at Northern Soul than an objective programme might have been, so I wasn't too bothered. What I would really like to see is a show purely about the music - taking say, 5 representative records and finding out where they came from, who recorded them, how they ended up in the UK and why people love them. That would be more interesting and put the music at the forefront where it should be.

You only have to look at the London Records discography to see that masses of stuff was available to UK record buyers in the early 60s assuming they knew what they wanted!
