  1. Garage band from Wilmington, Delaware: 'The Stairways were begun by Eddie Stair in 1965 with George Curtin on bass, Martel Day on drums, Bob Bowersox & Chuck Aarons on lead guitar. They were joined by Anthony "Nino" Puglisi on lead vocals and saxophone, and his younger brother, Rick on vocals and sax. The original lineup changed as members went off to college, or fell victim to band politics. Their 45 "Don't You Care" is a garage classic, while the instrumental flipside is making waves on the UK northern soul scene. They also recorded another song, "All Souled Out," that may or may not have survived on acetate....The Stairways cut "Don't You Care" early in '66, before I was with the band. The song was written by Eddie Stair. The Stairways record was sold in stores and did get radio play on Wilmington's WAMS-AM.'
  2. Why don't they just ask Jazzy B to explain what a bunch of racists we all are?
  3. The Art of Ian Clark on Uk Vibe Uk Vibe website has a must visit lengthy and photo heavy article just up. View full article

  5. The original Mods doing their thing...
  6. Numerous examples from these guys...
  7. I always thought it was a Gary Rushbrooke discovery.
  8. £5-600 is a realistic price for it depending on condition. OK, the JM copy was described as mint-ish, and most the ones I've seen have been rather less than that but it just isn't a £900 record and if you tried selling one for that price on here you'd be very lucky to get a buyer...IMO.
  9. Well I did consider bidding on the Gary Sole but f*** paying that much!
  10. Apparently 'Hold On' is the commonest song title ever (40 charting records with that title) although apart from The Radiants I can't find any other soul versions.
  11. Anyone got in ORIGINAL VG shape of better: Sonny Daye - Long Road to Happiness - Power SORTED Herb Hardesty - Perdido Street - King Charlie Russo - Goofin - Port Come On - Earl King - Imperial And a real long shot (sold mine a few years ago and can I find another copy?) - Rotations - Put a Dime on D9 - Frantic Thanks - address is in the UK BTW. Will use PayPal.
  12. If you read the whole thread, the seller seems to have gone from a bit suspect to genuine (with people who dealt with him giving endorsement) to a total Arthur Daley. Does anyone actually know who the guy is (one of our German members perhaps?). Could his ID be being hijacked?
  13. 'Uptight' by Stevie Wonder is the epitome of Motown for me. Yes, it was a big hit and is familiar to one and all but it is so dynamic and uplifting that I still get a strong emotional reaction to it even today. Sophisticated lyrics too for a 15-year-old. Baby, everything is all right, uptight, out of sight [x2] [Verse 1] I'm a poorman's son, from across the railroad tracks The only shirt I own is hanging on my back But I'm the envy of every single guy Since I'm the apple of my girl's eye When we go out stepping on the town for a while My money's low and my suit's out of style But it's all right if my clothes aren't new Out of sight because my heart is true [Chorus] She says baby everything is alright, uptight, out of sight Baby, everything is alright, uptight, clean out of sight [Verse 2] She's a pearl of a girl, I guess that's what you might say I guess her folks brought her up that way The right side of the tracks, she was born and raised In a great big old house, full of butlers and maids She says no one is better than I, I know I'm just an average guy No football hero or smooth Don Juan Got empty pockets, you see I'm a poorman's son She says give her the things that money can buy But I'll never, never make my baby cry [Chorus] And it's all right, what I can't do Out of sight because my heart is true She says baby everything is alright, uptight, clean out of sight [x5]
  14. Entirely depends on how rare a sleeve is I would imagine, although I'm not sure what the really rare ones are. Even an ordinary one does add a certain something to a 45 though.
  15. And starting at $100. Someone will buy it no doubt.
  16. I presume this is a boot or did they produce legit issues in Belgium? Somehow I think I know the answer before even asking the question but I might just be cynical. https://www.ebay.com/itm/SAM-FLETCHER-Id-think-it-over-TOLLIE-Popcorn-NorthErn-Soul-Hear-IT-EX-/161755950048?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25a967ebe0
  17. I dunno, I was offered £150 for mine a few months ago. Mind you, it has received the dreaded 're-issue' treatment which reduces its appeal somewhat. Lets be honest, Manship auctions are a sort of alternative universe where the normal laws just don't apply.
  18. The all-time classics are fetching increasingly large amounts these days. Look at Sandi Sheldon last month. Maybe I'll consider flogging a few myself before the bubble bursts. Quite pricey for the Megatons on Sue - is it a rare one?
  19. We used to go to events (often in small Scottish towns) in the 80s with a big Nigerian guy and the only trouble was with locals who weren't exactly used to Black people. The only time there was fisticuffs, not only did the locals have to face up to a pretty hard Nigerian guy but all of us 'Northern racists' lot too. Oh, dear were they ever sorry...
  20. Used to be masses around - probably still are, certainly not a rare record.
  21. Good sound. I had one and also a copy of 'Hide and Seek' by Eddie Regan which was basically the same boot in terms of label sharpness, run-out pitting, etc - probably from the same bootlegger in fact.
  22. Boot is vinyl, has pitting in the run-out and as said, the B/W printing isn't as sharp. Boot Real
  23. I bought some right old crap in the early 80s through lack of knowledge but on the other hand also got some great stuff too as the sellers were sometimes equally clueless. Nowadays, there should be no excuses for people to buy boots or reissues with so much info around...but then no one ever went broke underestimating the intelligence of the public did they?
  24. Out of curiosity, just how rare is the issue? https://www.raresoulman.co.uk/index.php/auction/latest
  25. I remember everyone (i.e. about 50 different people in Edinburgh where I lived then) getting copies of the Frank Beverly and they probably still have them. Ringleaders was £10 for a long time - bought and sold it several times. 'Whiskey Talking' was offered to me for £10-£15 on at least three different occasions in the late 80s or early 90s but I wasn't into it then - not sure I am now. Also - 'Say it to my Face' Royal Five - loads about in the late 80s £5 'Burnt Toast and Black Coffee' Mike Pedicin - saw it on sale a lot at one time (mid 90s?) - a tenner at most Future price hike? 'Way You've Been Acting lately' Al Kent - I once gave away two as it was so common and it seems to be rising now. Oh well! I'm more interested in how they sound anyway.
