Fame recordings - suggestions welcome
Just about every Staple Singers hit from "Heavy Makes You Happy" to "City In the Sky" was made in Muscle Shoals.

outside influences
** Arthur Conley- "Sweet Soul Music" sounds like Sam Cooke's "Yeah Man" ** Christine Cooper- "Heartaches Away" has a strong Supremes feel - lots of "Back In My Arms Again" ** Tina Britt's "The Real Thing" obviously influenced by the Vandellas' "Heatwave" ** Richie Adams "I Can't Escape From You" influenced by Marvin's "Ain't That Peculiar" ** not sure if these are "common features" or "coincidences"

The Ambassadors "Too Much Of A Good Thing" and Danny Monday "Baby Without You" The Temptones- "Girl I Love You" and The Ringleaders "Baby What Has Happened To Our Love" Just noticed Velvet and The Quads have the same writers and producers so I think they just changed the lyrics.

Velvet's "Bet You If You Ask Around" sounds an awful lot like the Quadrophonics' "Betcha If You Check It Out".

take a look inside-The Supremes
The track you're talking about is "I'll Let Him Know I Love Him".

Fame recordings - suggestions welcome
Here's a few to get started- all of them much better than "Torn Between Two Lovers" Etta James- "Tell Mama", "I'd Rather Go Blind", "Security", "Almost Persuaded" Clarence Carter- "Slip Away", "Too Weak To Fight" etc. - I'm sure there's more Aretha Franklin- "I Never Loved A Man", "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" Wilson Pickett- "Land Of 1000 Dances", "Mustang Sally", "Funky Broadway", "Don't Knock My Love"

take a look inside-The Supremes
Out of the unreleased tracks, I like "Tears Left Over" and "I Ain't Got The Love". You can go on Amazon- punch in the CD info and listen to 30 second clips of each song. It might take a few clicks to hear since it defaults to the buy the mp3 page.

take a look inside-The Supremes
The CD is called "This Is The Story- The 70's Albums 70-73"- it came out over 10 years ago and is out of print but available as an mp3.

Most 'northern' Motown hit..
In the Complete Motown Singles- 1964, they write about Ivy Jo Hunter dragging the chains across the floor for "Dancing In the Street". The chains are used again for "Nowhere..." and they were said to be Ivy Jo's idea.

Although it was touched on- I wanted to make mention of the great work from the Young Professionals team which was for the most part Taylor, Hurtt and Bell (sometimes Bunny Sigler shows up in the credits) who are responsible for all of these - Jackie Moore- "Both Ends Against The Middle", "Sweet Charlie Babe" Bettye Swann- "Kiss My Love Goodbye", "When The Game Is Played On You" Vivian Reed - "Save Your Love For Me" Blue Magic - "Sideshow" etc. Clyde Brown- "You Called Me Back"

Here's a few more for the list- A Brother's Guiding Light- "Getting Together" - Mercury (early Montana production) Thom Bell's work with New York City on Chelsea. The Temprees 3 album ( We Produce) has tracks cut at Future Gold Studios in Philly and features such Philly names as Ron Baker, Earl Young, Bobby Eli and Larry Washington

Gamble and Huff did an interview with Record World in 1973- one of the questions asked was "Have you signed any new groups?". They said they were thinking of signing Darlene Love (which they did and then Phil Spector bough out her contract), mentioned the Three Degrees and then said "We just signed Freddie Scott". (????) Does anyone know anything about this- were any tracks cut etc. or why this didn't work out? This would have been a great combination if you listen how well they worked together on "You Got What I Need".- picture wanted
This Sequins picture is of the Chicago group who recorded for Goldstar and Crajon and Fantasy. There's also a different Sequins on Renfro, Detroit Sound and even more groups on A &M and Ascot.- Philly Sound Outside Productions
And then there's Jerry Butler who worked with Gamble and Huff in the 60's, signed to Motown in the mid 70's, and was back on Philly Int'l by the late 70's .- Philly Sound Outside Productions
I know the name of the group is the Atlanta Disco Band and that the album was recorded in Atlanta but........ the songs were remixed at Sigma Sound, Earl Young wrote and did some arrangements and the whole album sounds and feels like a Philly album. They do a decent version of "Bad Luck" and there's the much better "Buckhead".- Philly Sound Outside Productions
The first Richie Family ( and there were a lot of them) was actually the Sweethearts of Sigma ( Barbara Ingram, Carla Benson, Yvette Benton). When they didn't want to tour to promote "Brazil", the producer formed a new group made up of Cassandra Wooten, Gwen Oliver (from Honey and the Bees) and another singer. Norman Harris also produced 2 albums for Eddie Kendricks on Tamla- "He's A Friend" and "Goin' Up In Smoke". Elton John worked with Thom Bell on the "Thom Bell Sessions" EP. - Philly Sound Outside Productions
