i came last month or so and it was brilliant,apart from i dont like how modern music and people are downstairs and soulies are upstairs.people downstairs were roudy and nasty. its a shame the soul do isnt in a different atmosphere and in the hollingwood because its rather rough

Hello Antonialuciax Glad you enjoyed your visit to our Soul Night describing your experience as brilliant, always take that kind of comment A little confused by your post though?  I can tell you being from the village of Hollingwood and frequently visiting this Pub that what you describe downstairs is what happens in most Public Houses around Christmas time, people, mainly young people, enjoying a Karaoke/Disco and getting a little loud. I will say that Pete the Landlord who has only had the Pub since late September and making a huge difference to the place is very quick to stamp out any trouble or diffuse any situations that very rarely arise, and is making great strides in making this a family friendly Pub which you could witness yourselves as they do catering all week up to around 9.00pm for any family, doing quizzes, jam nights etc..They also use the Ballroom upstairs for a variety of reasons, and work alongside the Hollingwood's Residents Association to put on various events throughout the year for the children and families of Hollingwood. So please come along again and experience the community and the people that live and work here, you will have a good time.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            For the other people who may read this and be a little put off by the negative comment posted by Atonialuciax believe me it would be a rare thing if you did encounter any problems.Like any where the majority of people are kind and good folk!! So come and enjoy the SOUL NIGHT on Friday 3rd of February with guest DJ GRAHAM WEAVER in his famous words IT'LL BE A STONKER! Upstairs in the ballroom and all will be very welcome.See you all soon Let's Dance. Great to have GRAHAM WEAVER as guest DJ this month, a Chesterfield lad who's been involved with the Northern Soul Scene for as long as I can remember! First recollect seeing Graham around 1977/78 when visiting Tupton Village Hall which was one of the few places at that time staging a Soul Night. At that time journeys to other parishes in and around Chesterfield could be hostile, but this proved to trouble free and once inside everyone was fine because we all shared the one common passion SOUL MUSIC. The only tune I recall being played that night was Williams & Watson "Two for the price of one" which was a biggie around that time. Known Graham since then normally bumping into each other throughout the years at various venues around the East Midlands. Always animated and more than willing to talk, have yourself a good time behind the decks and welcome to the HOLLINGWOOD good sir!!

                 We would also like to welcome a gentleman most of you know MR. BILLY BACKDROP who's gladly agreed to come along and spin some great tunes alongside SAV for the first hour. So be early this is going to be some night, remember doors open at 8.00pm through till 12.00PM

PLEASE NOTE; This venue is talc friendly, but PLEASE USE SPARINGLY, you only need to put a little down, just like sprinkling salt on your dinner!!

 SO COME ALONG AND BRING YOUR DANCING SHOES, IT'LL BE ORATE!!
