Hi Folks,

Where has this year gone?  It seems as though it was just a few short weeks ago when we received our 2016 flyers and Moz tells me that he’s just placed the order for our 2017 batch!  Time is rushing by at a scarily fast rate...or is it just me getting/feeling old?  Ah well, at least I’m not as old as Moz!

In relation to 2017 we’ve got a full year’s worth of Northern Line Soul Nights for your enjoyment and the first of the new 2017 flyers will be on the tables at the next Northern Line on Saturday 26th November when our special guest DJ will be the Mansfield legend that is Carl Piper.

Carl has been our special guest on a couple of occasions and his sets have always been extremely well received.  With Carl you’ll get the finest classics and most in-demand oldies, a fairly up-tempo set plus a few tracks that you may not have heard in yonks that will have you asking “Why the heck isn’t a record as good as that played out more often?”  There are few guarantees in life, but with Carl you do have a few; quality tunes, a great atmosphere, a full floor and sore feet...what’s not to like?  Given Carl’s calibre it’s no surprise that for many years he’s been running the successful Kingsway Hall nights in Mansfield and that he’s a regular on the DJ roster at Soul Over Easy events (notably at Warrington’s Parr Hall and as the resident at Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel).

As usual Ben Moses will be starting the night and if you haven’t heard him then I would urge you to do your ears and feet a favour and get down when the doors open at 7:30pm.  His sets are so very refreshing...you’ll love him!  Moz and I will adopt our normal modus operandi; try not to bugger things up whilst remembering to play the correct side of the record at the correct speed.

The 26th November is our last event of 2016 as in December the 4th Saturday would fall on Christmas Eve and we knew that despite the understandable desire to spend a night with Moz, Ben and myself, that all the good girls and boys would probably want to be at home, tucked up in bed and asleep before Santa comes (or doesn’t come...if you’ve been naughty).  I quite like the idea of the naughty girls spending a night with us, but my wife has had a few words to say on the subject and Ben’s Mum is definitely not happy at the thought!

It would be disrespectful of me not to comment that this is our last event in 2016 without our buddy John ‘Biff’ Griffiths.  I appreciate that I can’t keep mentioning John and opening old wounds, but this year has been very sad for all of us that knew, liked and loved John and I’m sure that we won’t ever forget him...and the thought of a whole year in 2017 without him behind the decks with us is one that I’m trying to push from my mind.

That being said, I’m sure that John will be there with us in spirit and that he’d approve of what we’ve been trying to achieve.  If the attendance at the last event, all the new faces and all the positive comments are anything to go by we’re clearly back on track and we’re recapturing the spirit and atmosphere of very best of The Northern Line.  Please do try and pop over on Saturday 26th November and if you do we think you’ll have a cracking night...just don’t blame us if you end up with sweaty pits and blisters, blame Carl Piper!

Only a couple of days to go until our last event of 2016 (remember, there's no December event as this would fall on Christmas Eve)

Interest seems high, so it looks like it could be a busy night.

I'm looking forward to hearing Carl's "few different tunes"...they should be absolute belters if everything else I've heard him play is the yardstick.

Remember to pick up your 2017 flyers on the night for all of next year's dates...they've arrived just in the nick of time.

We hope to see you at The Northern Line.

Chris
