This must be one of the best kept ‘secret’ events in the UK, but it could be that exclusivity adds to its appeal. Musically, there is an open minded policy that stops well short of ‘div’ territory. In fact the nearest I’ve heard of anything close to “OOTF” was the excellent, often overlooked “Honey you can’t take it back” by the very same Dobie Gray. Not that it got played this time as there were many excellent tunes in abundance including a lovely surprise (for me, anyway!) Mark V Unlimited “Gone” Toward the end of the night the floor became busier with a higher percentage of Ladies expressing themselves to some ‘thinking (wo)man’s soul’ which was a pleasure to see. I’m guessing that there’s a few people come up from Bedford area & I relish the opportunity to witness them reacquainting themselves with ‘their’ tunes which I may hardly know, if @ all. Soul music & the scene is a broad church, but it truly concerns me that some very stylish, smooth dancers are not, generally, being catered for, other than the few niche events, like Caliente. Whilst that dilemma might be mine alone, it is not a selfish one, & I am merely expressing an opinion. I can only urge anybody reading this, who, like me, doesn’t subscribe to the ‘KR Top 500’* to get themselves along to the ‘Friendliest venue in the Fens’ that, more often than not, has cake in abundance....
