What a great end to our monthly Soul nights at Ashton Ukrainian Club!! Horrendous weather, but that didn't deter the Travellers, a packed house, tells it's own story !!

The sound equipment was problematic, early doors, apologies Luci Jones sincerely hope it didn't ruin, what everyone agreed was a great spot, we'd love to have you back behind the decks next year!!

Quality opening set previous to you by Phil Dunn a nice mix of R+B and mid tempo gems.

Simon Ingham delivered in spades, as we have come to expect at Team Ukrainian!! A dancers delight, expertly weaving the styles and tempos!

Jumping Joan had the dancefloor, well jumping, simple really!!! Foreign Blue Renaissance, Four Voices and many more, all delivered with boundless enthusiasm!!

Roger Banks was back in his old stomping ground and looked to be having a ball behind the decks, the dancers lapped it up. Really nice touch from Rowena Ribena Morgan and everyone who donated to the collection for our hard working bar staff!!

Chris Churm wrapped the night up in fine style!!

A great response from The Ashton Faithful, we salute you for your unwavering support, some nice messages already coming through from last night, makes it all worthwhile!!

From everyone at Team Ukrainian have a great Christmas and New Year, see you all in January!!

Only my second visit came for the first time last month. Absolutely loved the atmosphere, venue and the friendly crowd. Probably the best soul night I’ve been to this year. There was a young Dj playing a set of awesome tunes that I hadn’t heard before and I ended up dancing till I dropped. Returned for the Xmas night last night and was absolutely blown away again. Needless to say I am hooked now. Massive thanks to everyone involved in putting the night together and all the bar staff. Eventually went to bed at 05.30 hope everyone got home safe and sound & everyone had as great a time as I did. Finally big thank you to the Dj’s on the night. Brilliant sets from one and all. 👌👏👏👏👏👏

Another tasty night at Ashton just as we have come to expect. High standards from the ladies too and Luci did a great spot despite the mad glitch. Head up and kept on. So good to hear tunes forgotten just because they may be a fiver.(just now). The ladies behind the bar worked for free helping to keep the place open for the events. Just amazing and well done to the lady who collected for them.

Thank you one and all

Tom

Oh what a night...............ladies night 🎵🎶

The girls did good - not a surprise to me but a treat for the Ashton faithful none-the-less

Phil kicked the night off with his usual eclectic selections followed by Luci Jones' set which prompted lots of positive feedback and quite rightly (despite the sound system gremlins).

Joan Livesey was on fire lighting up the room as always...and then of course followed the triumphant return of Roger Banks to the old stomping ground in fine style.....

Chris Churm rounded off a fantastic night and an incredible, enjoyable 2023 - so a GREAT BIG THANKS to all of you who have supported our little club this year it is so much appreciated

On the soul calendar one night not to be missed if possible is the Ashton Ukrainian. Last Saturday's lived up to my expectations, a mix of soul musical styles in a club with a knowledgeable audience.

We arrived in time to get seats, thanks to Derek and Janet Watmough for the lift, and of course good to have Paddy with us.

Four guest DJs were on the bill for the night: Roger Banks; “Jumping” Joan Livesey; Simon Ingham and Luci Jones. Each added a different slant to the night's music. Plus of course Phil Dunn and Chris Churm.

As always the music was aimed at the dance floor and it succeeded, keeping things moving all evening.

Plenty records that were new to me played but I do remember the following: Al Green's Let Me Help You; ZZ Hill's Where She Att; Bob Meyer's version of I Only Get This Feeling;Jim Lee's Let's Go Baby; Lee Tillman's She's The One I Love; Chuck Bernard's Send For Me; Marvin Gaye's So Long; Reachers' I Just Want To Do My Own Thing; Continental Showstoppers' Not Too Young; Innocent Bystanders' Frantic Escape; Monique's Never Let Me Go; The Velvets' Let The Fool Kiss You; Jimmy Soul Clark's I'll Be Your Champion; etc.

The list shows the variations in the music played, loads more, too many to mention.

A good crowd in, and as I said above the dance floor was busy all night. Nice to see friends before Christmas, the people who attend are part of what makes this night so special.

As usual thanks to the DJs and the staff of the club.

I look forward to this night continuing in the new year with anticipation.
